Saturday 13th January Detroit @ New York

Preview
Detroit have came off three big wins away from home @ LA, Boston and Houston now they travel to New York to take on a 5-8 Kincks team who have been struggling of late. New York are going to have to win the battle in-side because it’s the only way to beat Detroit while they will have to get the ball down into the lane on the PF side because Mourning and Wallace are two dangerous threats on Defence as well. With all of this taken into consideration 3PK’S prediction is Detroit win 93-79

Pistons starting 5

PF- D. Nowitzki

Pistons go to triple overtime

Summary
1st Quarter From the outset no one was giving New York a chance, Although for New York this was a must win game as they needed something to give them a chance to make a playoff run. On the first 4 possessions New York and Detroit scored and both teams had a great offensive rhythm going. But then the Pistons picked up there defence and where showing no mercy at the other end as they hit there first 5 shots of the game. The pistons then set to enlarging the lead and it was out to 13-6 early. Although the knicks fought back as they got 3 consecutive blocks to force a shot clock violation. Francis then sparked the knicks as they drew within four points. Late in the first quarter Detroit began to run the fast break and began to run away with the game at the same time as left the Knicks trailing by six 23-17

2nd Quarter Both teams began solidly as New York drew within 4 points. Just to possessions later Curry put back a dunk to close to just 1 point but B.B carp continued his hot form sinking a tough 3 pointer to get the pistons back up by 4 [33-28]. Detroit then went out of control as they took a 38-28 lead. Although New York where playing great basketball and where only down by 6 when Marbury got into double-figures. Although Detroit steady late and lead by nine at half time [46-37]

Players at the half
Detroit  Dirk Nowitzki 19 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block
New York  Stephon Marbury 14 points and 3 assists

3rd Quarter In the 3rd New York got the crowd involved and scored the 1st few points but not even this could stop a rampaging Detroit as they hit a tough fade away with 1 second on the shot clock. New York did not no what more the could do but then they really got the crowd involved as they hit a three pointer and then Q-rich threw to Francis for the highlight dunk. Everything seemed to go the knicks way as they got lucky calls bailing them out with almost no time on the shot clock. The knicks now had reduced the margin to just four points. Although Dirk made sure they didn’t get any closer dropping a three pointer and making it once again a 7 point game in favour of Detroit. Frustration then leaked into New York as they trailed 74-64 going into the last.

4th Quarter In the last New York had a bit of ground to make up and they started the right way making it just 6 points that they where behind after 1 minute. They then continued strong and trailed 72-74 after 2 minutes. But then B.B Carp put it back out to 5, although the Knicks where relentless and got back within 1 point after Francis went into the lane and jammed on Mourning. Then it became a game of bucket for bucket as neither team showed an inch of letting down. Then with 1:53 to play New York took the lead 86-85. Although that was short lived as B.B Carp sank another 3 pointer. But Q-Rich had an answer for that as he sank one of his own to put them in front again. Both teams continued to go bucket for bucket until Detroit got a stop with 40 seconds to go and converted a lay-up to lead 94-91. Curry then converted one of two free throws and New York regained possession trailing 94-92 with 8 seconds left. Marbury went inside and some how Curry bet three defenders to get a 2 pointer with 3 seconds to go. The pistons where not able to Convert a basket and we where heading to Overtime.

Overtime In overtime both teams continued there 4th Quarter form as Detroit got out to a short lived 4 point lead. Detroit then hit a 101-96 lead but the knicks quickly hit back reducing it to two points. The pistons then hit back to a 5 point lead but Wallace was fouled out. The pistons did not slow down from there though as Billups sank a three to put the up by 8 points. But from there New York hit 3 consecutive three pointers and led 107-106. Both teams then again stepped up another gear, with Francis hitting a 3 point play to put New York up 2. Detroit then drew level again with only 26 seconds to go. Neither team could convert open shots and New York had one last chance with 8 second to go New York Missed a open lay-up and we where heading to double overtime.

Double-overtime In double OT Detroit looked off as the knicks took a 117-114 lead after 2 minutes. Detroit then hit back as dirk scored his 50th points, while the pistons only trailed by 1. But then the knicks got a big 121-114 lead and all looked lost for Detroit. With everything considered it looked over for Detroit but they didn’t think so as they got back within 4 off the back of a B.B Carp three pointer. But New York where solid, But then B.B triggered the 3-ball again and once again got it to drop putting the pistons down by just 2. New York once again did not convert on Offence and B.B ensured they where going to pay hitting another THREE POINTER! To put Detroit up by one. Both teams then traded baskets as the lead changed time after time. Then B.B put a nail into New York hitting a clutch 4-point play as the pistons led by 3 129-126 with 30 seconds to go. New York missed but quickly forced a turn over twice. The game was there for New York to win it as Marbury had it in his hands with 10 seconds to go. He then found Rookie Foreman for the two pointer to tie it up with 1 second to go. But Detroit could not Convert again. Setting up triple overtime.

Triple Overtime In triple OT both teams where exhausted, but neither team came this far to pick up a loss. They both traded leads throughout the first few minutes as neither could find a brake. Detroit played a small line-up as Mourning was half dead and Wallace was fouled out. Billups then took control scoring 4 points and dishing an assist. From this Detroit took a 147-144 lead. Detroit then took control of the match and ran home winners by a score line of 161-158

If the Pacers are going to win a key will be attacking the pistons interior because they will be extremely tired also Indiana Should try and play a up-temp game once again because Detroit will be fatigued. To win they should attack with Jermaine O’Neal as he could be the key in this big match. 3PK’s Prediction Pacers overrun Detroit in the last to win 88-83.

Dirk Breaks his nose in Pistons win!

Summary
1st Quarter Straight away the pistons where running a clinic and the effect of there Triple OT match against the knicks was transparent as they did not look fatigued at all and actually looked rejuvenated. But then the Pacers hit back and took an early 9-6 lead. But Detroit started to step up and quickly had a 12-10 lead. From this stage in the Quarter both teams began to settle into an offensive rhythm. The Pacers and Pistons traded buckets as the crowd helped the pistons take a 19-12 lead. Wallace and Hamilton then got going for Detroit as they took a powerful 28-20 lead shooting 70%.

2nd Quarter In the 2nd Detroit came out streaking and rushed out to a 34-22 lead. Pacers where quick to reduce the margin as there two rookies combined for a veterans combo, inside out game to sink a tough three pointer. The pacers then relished this as they got back within 3 points. This was just before B.B Carp got hot hitting two uncontested three’s on 3 possessions. But Tinsley quickly put the pacers back on the right path as he got them within 3 points once again [37-40]. The pistons then went to there Big trio Wallace, Nowitzki and Billups who closed out the half in superb fashion giving the pistons a 51-42 lead.

Players at the half
Detroit  Dirk Nowitzki 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
Indiana  Jamal Tinsley 15 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists

3rd Quarter In the 3rd Detroit came out as a solid unit as they ensure Indiana got no closer then 9 points. Detroit began to rally on defence and got multiple stops which drew pressure and frustration to Indiana. Everything looked good for Detroit and then the unthinkable happened DIRK GOT INJURED. As soon as Dirk went to the bench Wallace picked it up scoring the next 4 points. Detroit then began to share around the scoring but it wasn’t working as the Pacers where slowly creeping into the match. Chauncey then took the work load into his hands as he set the palace crowd alight. Both teams then stayed at about the same position as Detroit went 7 points up going into the last [73-66].

4th Quarter In the last it was always going to be tough for Detroit with only 3 fresh players and a lot of tired bodies from the last game and the Pacers where well aware of that. But B.B was sure that it wasn’t an excuse as he dropped shot after shot. But Pacers where solid at the other end as they reduced the margin to 5 points early in the quarter. Indy kept the pressure on and had the pistons worried when they only trailed by 4 points, but the pistons kept strong as they where holding on to there 6 point lead with 3 minutes to go. But then in the last to minutes Indiana began to surge and had the lead down to 4 points. The Pacers kept coming but some clutch baskets from Wallace got the pistons home 93-86 in what was simply a lack-Lester match.

Saturday 20th January Detroit @ Portland

Preview
As Detroit head to Portland without Nowitzki or Howard they may even en-counter a challenge. Although it’s not that easy Portland are going to have to take Billups out of the game and take Wallace out with Double teams as long as B.B Carp isn’t on the court. Also they are going to have to play up tight defence on B.B Carpenter to stop him from keeping his 29.5 points per game average over the last 3 games. If Portland can do this the game is there’s if not expect Piston to get a decisive win. 3PK’S Prediction pistons win 103-84.

Pistons starting 5
C- R. Wallace

Billups records Triple Double in BIG Pistons win

Summary
1st Quarter In the 1st Detroit had no target to revolve there offence around as they couldn’t find an avenue to goal early. Detroit then played a pass first mentality offence and it produced for them as they hit an early 10-3 lead. Then Billups got hot and started doing it at both ends as he had 2 steal 4 rebounds and 5 assts. He then Got Wallace firing and the Pistons where dominating. It was a clinic being run at the Rose Garden with the blazers having no answers as they trailed 22-5. The pistons then rolled into the break leading 29-11

2nd Quarter In the 2nd Portland began a long road back, as they scored the first 6 points. But B.B Carp was determined to continue his good form as he hit a 3 taking the lead back out to 15 but at the other end Webster was doing the same to ensure they where still on a run. This wasn’t enough to discourage B.B Carpenter as he went one better hitting another 3, But Webster again hit back with yet another 3. From this the blazers cut it back to 8 until, yes B.B Carpenter dialled another long range bomb. Blazers didn’t no how to stop him so they focused on there offence who got them as close as 9 before Billups came in with 2:00 minutes to go. Detroit where inspired by Billups heroics and by the end of the 1st half Blazers where facing a 10 point deficit 52-42

Players at the half
Detroit  Chauncey Billups 8 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals
Portland  Zach Randolph 7 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist

3rd Quarter In the 3rd the Blazers came out fighting quickly reducing the lead to 6, but Detroit quickly answered back with a 8-0 run. Then Billups got going again and Detroit where up by 15. Portland had no control as the Pistons began to run away with the game. But to Portland’s credit they fought back and drew back to just an 8 point deficit. Then Detroit went crazy taking it out to 16 with 4 secs left then he did the unthinkable hitting a ¾ buzzer Beater to put the pistons up by 19 going into the last.

4th Quarter In the last B.B Carp continued a dream month as he tore up the Blazers defence as they helplessly watched him sink three after three after in a dominate performance. Then the Pistons began to give Webber some critical scoring time as he completely put Randolph into his corner. Then B.B went to a career high went he hit a three to put him up to 32 points which was followed by another 3 to put him to 35 points and to give Detroit a 31 point lead. The pistons surged again to win 125-87.

I admire the corouge of the players as they where able to win withuot Nowiztki out Top Scorer and without our quiet achiever Josh Howard. I was extremly happy With B.B's month i knew we got him for a reason and he finally showed us what it was this month as he averaged over 35 points in the last 4 games.
