Washington, DC – The Wizards' bench covered Jamison's absence as they scored 27 points. Eddie Griffin who replaced Jamison in the starting 5 did a great job in defense but was off target at the other end.
With less options on offense the Wizards had one thing on their mind straight from the beginning - defense. Although it didn't work as good all night long, they still managed to keep the Pacers under 20 points for two periods. After holding the Pacers to 16 in the first the defense got careless and Indiana scored 30 in the second to tie the game at 46 at the half. Eddie Jordan got hold of the things in the third as Washington held the Pacers again to 16 points. Butler and Arenas combined 18 out of the team's 29 in the third. Indiana attempted a comeback in the fourth but Gilbert Arenas was there to answer and the Wizards got away with a third consecutive double-digit victory.
Arenas had a big game with 31 points, 8 assists and 6 steals. Jermaine O'Neal led the Pacers with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and a block.
Wizards' guard Caron Butler scored 20 of his 26 points in the second and third quarter of the game.
