Lake Show Not Showing Up!
Lakers trailed by 9 with 5:24 left, falter to ‘Sonic Boom’

over Lamar Odom (7) effortlessly for the slam

20 Oct, Los Angeles – The Lakers were close with half a period left. Then the Sonics put the game up one more gear to dominate the Lakers up until the final whistle. Despite amazing games by Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and Aaron Mckie, the Los Angeles Lakers still conceded their fifth straight loss. They only hope it doesn’t equate to how badly they will do in the regular season.

“We really can’t play like this during the real season. Those games count,” Brian Cook told reporters, “Our defense isn’t holding up and we’re losing to the other team running on the fast break. We need to get our half court game running too.”

Cook was right about the defense as the Lakers allowed the opposition to attack the rim at will, putting in no effort on that end of the floor. However on the other end, the Lakers played one of their best offensive games so far as Odom and Bryant got the team going.

Bryant and Sonics’ Ray Allen had a scoring duel with the two scorers finishing on 37 and 39 points respectively. Allen always led in scoring as he finished the first period with 17 points as compared to Bryant’s 16. Bryant who shot 12 for 22 stated, “I can score if the team needs it but we’ve got to figure out how to play solid defense and win games.” Bryant added 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

Lamar Odom played one of his best games off the preseason as he added a Scottie Pippen-esque 20, 6 and 7. Aaron Mckie played his best game also as he chipped in 14 points and 3 steals while Kwame Brown had an all-round effort of 12, 10, 6 and 3 steals. “We all played well tonight but we lost to a better team,” Lakers’ newly announced Co-captain Odom said. Coach Phil Jackson also said, “The team is relatively new to everything so I’m not stressing too much but it was an ugly game. We’re getting harassed on the rebounding department a bit too much”

The Sonics ran away with the win in the second quarter as they went on an unstoppable 8-0 spurt midway through. From thereafter, the Sonics cruised to the victory. Vladmir Radmonovic who has just rejoined the Sonics after European Championship duty contributed an interesting 13 and 7. Rashard Lewis made 13 of 18 shots to get up to 29 points and 9 rebounds. Luke Ridnour who scored 24 points and 7 assists in the last game when LA visited Seattle only managed 2 points and 3 assists in 18 minutes due to a leg injury.

“This was a great team win. The Sonics are really enjoying the momentum,” a Sonics’ assistant coach said after the match, “They’re ready to get to the top of the West next season.” Ronald Murray who scored 13 from off the pine added, “Ray and Rahsard really want to make the Finals this year and these back to back wins against LA really prove that they mean business.”

The Lakers tried desperately to battle back form a double digit deficit in the fourth quarter. The Lakers who trailed by as many as 21 in the final period received 10 points from Bryant and 8 from Mckie in the quarter however Odom was held scoreless. Los Angeles got as close to the Sonics as 9 points with half a quarter left before Seattle called a timeout.

After the short break, the away team seemed to be focused on the win and steamrolled their way past the home side with an unanswered 11-0 run. Allen led the way with two easy lay ups and a wide open trey on the left hand side of the court near the baseline. It wasn’t only after Allen scored another long distance bucket with 3:45, one step behind the arc that the Lakers gave up.

Notes

SG Kobe Bryant’s rejection on PF Nick Collison on the fast break brought the STAPLES crowd to its feet… Bryant refused to entertain the media by skipping the post game press conference… PG Luke Ridnour was injured in the third quarter and never returned... Rumours are flying that the Lakers are engaged in trade talks with the Boston Celtics… Preseason Record: 0-5 (0-3, 0-2)…

at least you committed less than 20 TO's...thats a start...just try to limit your TO's the opponent into more TO's...

actually theyre kinda leaving the door open...you just need find a way to walk through...

good luck! (Y)

Rumours are flying that the Lakers are engaged in trade talks with the Boston Celtics…

I'm excited to see what those "trade rumours" are.

Thu Sep 29, 2005 10:33 pm

Great recap man, I'm feelin' your dynasty (Y)

Try to get Al Jefferson man, he's the real deal. Or are you thinking point guard? MR WEST???

Fri Sep 30, 2005 12:10 am

Or are you thinking point guard? MR WEST???

I SAID IT FIRST!!!!! lol jk man.

PHX Depth Chart for the guards would be something like this:
SG: Jackson; Raja Bell; Barbosa
PG: Nash; Jackson; Barbosa

Cos they used Jim Jax at the Point more than barbosa last season.
Give them someone big, or a shooter, and it will work fine.

and dont trade Von Wafer, he looks cool, im yet to use him though lol.

Fri Sep 30, 2005 12:35 am

if you're in desperate need of a PG then just look to the free agent veterans....Kenny Anderson could be an able backup....there's a few others that could do the job....depends what you're looking for I guess

Sit:

How do you generate your boxscores? Is there an easy way of doing this directly through NBA Live 06?

Fri Sep 30, 2005 6:49 am

damn... u gotta start winning, man :/

Fri Sep 30, 2005 7:40 am

Please win! :P

Fri Sep 30, 2005 11:49 am

Allen and Lewis are unstoppable and McKie did not have any assist at all. Lakers definitely need to look for a PG right now. Also, the Lakers bench need to get some production to releases the pressure of Kobe and Odom. Maybe George and Cook can help. I still believe you will win a game soon.

- Its showtime again. I've got to clamp down on D or I can't win... Look for Kwame to be like Horace Grant and play good interior defense!

- In dynasty and season I believe, you can see boxscores after you've played the game. Consult your game manual to find out how to! (Y) I also just use fraps and edit it to put in one simple image!

Lakers Come Out On Bottom Again
Odom falls to injury, Bryant can’t carry team alone

after the ferocious jam

25 Oct, Charlotte – The Lakers finished the NBA preseason without a single win. Their most embarrassing preseason in many seasons to date, the Lakers were clearly dominated by all of their opponents and failed to even come close to winning a match.

In a game where Lamar Odom was injured in the first minute and later managed only an additional 7 minutes of court time before taking seat, the Lakers got to experiment with its roster. All wasn’t lost as Slava Medvedenko showed Coach Phil Jackson what he had on the bench. “Slava’s 18 and 7 will certainly not be overlooked as the season goes on. If we need someone to come off the bench to back up Chris (Mihm) or Kwame (Brown), it will be him (Slava),” Jackson stated.

The first quarter was a high scoring affair with Kobe Bryant sinking 8 of 8 free throws and Medvedenko making 5 shots for good measure. Former Laker SG Kareem Rush was automatic as he drove in and scored on several occasions. “Rush has improved a lot,” Bryant stated, “He’s getting touches and that equates to buckets. It’s great to see him do well.”

Rush finished on 20 points, leading 7 other Bobcats who scored in double figures. Emeka Okafor dominated inside as he rolled to a 20 point, 12 rebound outing. Brevin Knight scored a surprising 17 points from off the bench and rookie Raymond Felton added 11 points and 7 assists in his first NBA start.

“We (Bobcats) just clicked on the court. Once we had our transition game going, we were hard to stop,” Former Tar Heel Sean May said. The Bobcats who were fouling at the start, made up for their mistakes in the second half in which LA were the ones who fouled continuously. “Charlotte were making stupid mistakes and they fixed up their sloppy play later,” Phil Jackson criticized his own team after the match, “We just gave up and played even worse4 when the other team played better.”

Bryant led the Lakers with 38 points, 8 assists and 5 steals in 33 minutes. Kwame Brown was the only other double figure point scorer apart from Bryant and Medvedenko. The former 1st overall NBA draft pick put up 16 and 15. Aaron Mckie dished out 8 assists in 27 minutes, the most in this preseason campaign. Bryant had a brilliant basket at the buzzer of the second quarter where he crossed over Rush then scored off a screen by Chris Mihm. The crowd booed Bryant and the ref as the teams retreated to their halftime breaks.

Team captain Bryant encouraged his team after the game, “There was a lot of good done today on the court. Even though we made a few critical mistakes, the team is still on the learning curve, so once we get over that hump, we’ll get there (win).”

LA kept things close against the Bobcats thanks to Bryant and Medvedenko. Odom made the most of his minutes before being injured again in the second quarter and the Lakers forfeited a 1 point lead to fall behind Charlotte by 8 after a 9-0 run. Team defense, poor shooting and lack of protection of the rock were the main culprits against the Lakers.

Notes

C Andrew Bynum played his best preseason game with 6 points and 4 rebounds in 8 minutes… The Lakers committed 31 turnovers and 33 personal fouls resulting in 11 fast break baskets and 47 foul shot attempts for Charlotte… The Lakers prepare for the regular season with Odom to start on the IR with an arm injury… Preseason Record: 0-6 (0-3, 0-3)…

come on Sit, at this rate you're going to make my early Bobcats' seasons like banner years  grab a solid, safe playmaker and work from there (Y)

Sat Oct 01, 2005 6:44 pm

hey sit,
may be you can try clippers shaun livingston.
i am using lakers in the dynasty mode too
i think he has a great potential in real life, so i brought him in
(he was a back up in my game, behind cassell

i use Jones, sasha, and profit to trade him and they accept.

i think it is a good deal because lakers has so many small forward such as george, odom and walton.
trading jones and profit to get livingston is worth it!!!!

Sat Oct 01, 2005 6:47 pm

and one more,
do you think we need to add a big man for the bench?
since cook and slava are too soft

Sat Oct 01, 2005 6:59 pm

TO's, TO's, TO's...

have you tried experimenting with a different lineup? as in like sasha at the point?

i dunno if itll get you a win, but i THINK it'll cut down the turnovers that are destroying your team...

its good that this is still the preseason...

Sat Oct 01, 2005 7:01 pm

how's the crack... pretty good what's ya going on here... keep it up! Love it!

Sat Oct 01, 2005 7:06 pm

Finally you see the sense in Barbosa! He will be a great acquisition.

Tough loss against charlotte ( ), and unlucky injury to Odom.

If you want a shooter, look at picking up Fred Hoiberg, Quentin Richardson, Piatkowski etc. I Picked up Q-Rich in my CHI-Town Dynasty for Nocioni (71) and Pargo (66), so hes not to hard to acquire.

Good luck in the regular season.

Are you going consider trading Odom for a Playmaker and Depth?
