Game #22: New Jersey Nets (9-9) @ Milwaukee Bucks (12-9)

MIL 104, NJ 88

This Time, The Lead Sticks- First Half Lead Becomes Second-Half Blowout Over Nets

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN- In the Milwaukee Bucks’ previous game versus the Los Angeles Lakers, their 12-point halftime lead quickly evaporated into a 10-point loss in a disastrous 2nd half. In last night’s game against the New Jersey Nets, they held a 7-point lead at halftime, but history would not repeat itself.
 Milwaukee turned their 7-point lead into a 23-point lead by the 5:00 mark of the fourth quarter, thanks to their solid defense and outstanding bench play. The Bucks’ reserves scored 49 points  in the game while holding the Nets’ bench to 19 points- a huge 30 point discrepancy 8-) . Beno Udrih was solid with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists on 4-for-6 shooting, and 2-for-3 from downtown. And for the second consecutive game, Melvin Ely scored 14 points while playing great underneath. He’s been a consistent contributor since his arrival from the Charlotte Bobcats with Kareem Rush in the Trajan Langdon trade. Rush was another player who played well: 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists.
 The Nets had trouble all night long with getting into any kind of offensive rhythm, mostly due to the persistent swarming and pestering defense of the Bucks. Jason Kidd, famous for his passing abilities, had only 4 assists in the game, and the entire New Jersey team dished out just 13. That was exactly half the Bucks’ total of 26.
 And so the Bucks rolled to a rare easy victory, and improved their record to 13-9. New Jersey’s record worsened to 9-10.

GAME NOTES
Perhaps the only aspect of New Jersey’s game that went well for them was their three-point shooting. The Nets shot a smoking 10-for-20 on threes :o , and Vince Carter led the charge by sinking 5 of his 7 attempts. Carter finished with 23 points in the game.

Bucks Beat Slumping Bulls- Overcome Miserable First Quarter To Get A Big Win

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN- The Milwaukee Bucks handed the Chicago Bulls their 4th consecutive loss last night at the Bradley Center, lowering the Bulls’ record to 12-8 while raising the Buck’s mark to 14-9.
 Unlike the Bucks’ last game, a blowout win over the New Jersey Nets, this was a struggle and battle that was played out for the entire duration of the game. The first quarter was especially tough. Milwaukee was held scoreless for the first 4 minutes and only scored 12 points in the entire quarter. Their shooting percentage was a miniscule 18.2%: they made just 4 of their 22 field goal attempts, and bricked all 5 of their threes.
But the Bucks came back in a strong way in the second quarter. They completely reversed their offensive performance from the first period, shooting 52.2% and scoring 30 points. Chicago was having a hard time competing on the glass, as well, losing the rebounding battle in that quarter 16-8 to Milwaukee. Reserve Kareem Rush got hot for the Bucks, and so coach Terry Porter decided to keep him in the game for the entire quarter and put in Dwyane Wade at the point guard position. The move paid off nicely, as Wade showed his incredible versatility by handling the job naturally.
 The Bucks led 42-39 at halftime, and were able to increase their lead to 6 points by the end of the third quarter. Dwight Howard was really struggling with his shot, largely due to the great defense of the Bulls’ Tyson Chandler, but that didn’t stop Dwight from crashing the boards hard. His inside energy and presence took a lot of pressure off of the rest of the Bucks, and put a lot on the Bulls’ big men.
 For the latter part of the third quarter and a large part of the fourth, Coach Porter returned Wade to the point, and kept Rush in at the 2 because the combination was working so well. Rush had a huge game with 26 points. Down the stretch in the fourth, he had a sweeping layup in the middle of the lane over 2 defenders, a booming 1-handed dunk, and he swished a corner 3-pointer off a nice feed from Grant Hill. :D
 Hill was the other Buck besides Wade and Rush who really played well. He was all over the boards, grabbing 11 in the game and 4 in the 4th quarter, and he also scored 24 points in the game on 11-for-16 shooting. Twelve of his points came in the final quarter, when he made 6 of his 7 shot attempts.
 All of this proved to be too much for the Bulls, who really only had one player stand out: Andres Nocioni. “Noce” scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and blocked 3 shots in the ballgame :o . Six of his rebounds were on the offensive glass, a testament to his energy, hustle, and determination. Chicago’s going to need more efforts like to break their 4-game losing streak and get back to their winning ways.

GAME NOTES
Bucks Head Coach Terry Porter commented on the loss: “This game was really good for our team, for a few reasons. First of all, it was nice to see us handle the incredible defensive intensity the Bulls dished out early on, rebound from that, and play well enough to pull out the win. Also, I felt really good about our team with Dwyane at the point, and if Kareem can keep up his good shooting, putting those 2 in the same backcourt could create a lot of matchup problems for other teams in our games. And finally, I’m happy to see that Dwyane isn’t having to carry the load as much. Other guys have been stepping up their play, like Kareem today, Melvin Ely the last few games, etc. That’s what we need to be a real contender in the playoffs.

Thanks. Rush has been a pleasant surprise so far. He's a solid outside shooter, and when he gets hot, watch out

Game #24: Washington Wizards (10-15) @ Milwaukee Bucks (14-9)

MIL 105, WAS 104

He’s Not Over the Hill- Grant Hill Dominates Against the Wizards in Tight Win

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN- After missing most of 4 seasons to injury, many NBA fans doubted that Grant Hill would ever be able to regain his prime form when he was one of the most dangerous scorers and playmakers in the league. In a way, those fans have been right: since his return, Hill hasn’t dominated games on a consistent, nightly basis. However, once and awhile he shows that he still has some of the old Grant Hill still inside of him. Last night’s game against the visiting Washington Wizards was a prime example.
 Hill showed signs early that he was in for a big game. He scored 14 first-quarter points on 7-for-10 shooting, giving his defender Jarvis Hayes fits with his seemingly endless arsenal of moves on the perimeter. “I felt really good out there tonight,” Hill later remarked. On the strength of his attack, the Bucks held a 26-14 lead after the first quarter. The Wizards had extreme difficulties scoring the ball largely due to the 1-for-8 effort from their All-Star point guard, Gilbert Arenas.
 That all changed completely in the second period. The Wizards got REALLY hot, hitting 72% of their shots and scoring 37 points  in a storm of baskets that took a Herculean effort by the Bucks’ Robert Traylor to weather. Traylor simply had his way in the low post, scoring 15 points and grabbing 4 rebounds against any Wizard players who tried to stop him. :D He used his burly 280+ pound frame to bull through opponents, finishing with resounding dunks, layups, or short jumpers. It was the combination of Traylor’s efforts and the Bucks’ 12-point first quarter lead that kept them ahead of the smoking Wizards, by a halftime score of 55-51.
 When Washington scored the first 6 points of the 3rd quarter to take the lead 57-55, Bucks Coach Terry Porter promptly called a timeout and decided to try and stop the bleeding with a lineup change. He sat down Nate Robinson to move Dwyane Wade from the 2 to the 1, sat down Vlade Divac to move Dwight Howard from the 4 to the 5, and inserted Kareem Rush into the shooting guard spot and Traylor into the power forward position. “I was hoping for a spark, and knowing that Robert had had a dominant second quarter and Kareem was coming off a big game against the Bulls, they were the ideal choices.
 The move paid immediate dividends for the Bucks in the form of a 7-0 run that put them back up 62-57. Milwaukee wasn’t able to put a large lead together, but thanks to a solid team effort and 8 more points from Hill, they held a respectable 6 point lead heading into the fourth quarter, 82-76.
 The fourth quarter was close all the way, but the Bucks made the big plays in the big moments that were needed to pull out a victory. Hill had another 10 points, bringing his total to 37. His spectacular driving layup in the final minutes in which he wrapped the ball around Hayes’ back, in the air, and scooped it in on the other side of the rim.
 His play and some tough defense by reserve Ryan Bowen on the smoking hot Antawn Jamison kept the Bucks ahead, and they hit their free throws in the clutch to earn the W.

GAME NOTES
Wade had a rare quiet game, by his standards, with 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. The great play of Hill made up for it, though.

The Bucks as a team had 24 assists in the ballgame, although no individual player had as many as 4. Five players had exactly 3 assists, and 4 more had 2 dimes.

Game #25: Detroit Pistons (13-9) @ Milwaukee Bucks (15-9)

DET 115, MIL 114

Billups’ Clutch FTs Beat Bucks- Detroit Overcomes Late Bucks Charge to Win

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN- In a possible future playoff matchup, the Detroit Pistons visited the Milwaukee Bucks for a game last night at the Bradley Center. Detroit is known for their very physicality, defensive intensity, and overall gritty play that generates low scoring and ugly boxscores. However, yesterday’s game was the very opposite- both teams’ offenses were in high gear, and a total of 229 points were put up between them.
 Much of this may have been due to the fact that the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Ben Wallace, was hampered by foul trouble for most of the game, and was more often seen sitting on the bench than grabbing rebounds and blocking shots. Without him in the middle, the Bucks attacked the paint with their slashers playmakers such as Dwyane Wade, Grant Hill, and Nate Robinson.
 An early 19-12 Pistons lead was answered by a 7-0 Bucks run to tie that game at 19-19, and the first quarter ended with Milwaukee clinging to a 2-point advantage, 29-27. In the quarter, Hill (8 pts), Wade (10 pts), and Robinson (5 pts) had combined for 23 of the teams’ 29 points, or 79.3% . The Pistons’ Tayshaun Prince had the hot hand, scoring 13 in the period.
 The second quarter and third quarters were much like the first. Both teams continued to light it up from the field, and keep the scorers’ table very busy, but neither squad could take command of the game. Pistons reserve Carlos Delfino was the story of the 2nd quarter, going crazy with 19 points on 9-for-10 shooting in the period.  He was hitting absolutely EVERYTHING, draining long jumpers like they were free throws, just putting on an exhibition. But still the Bucks held a 3-point lead at halftime, and a 4-point lead after 3 quarters.
 The fourth quarter, however, was won by the Pistons. Their PG Chauncey Billups got hot, draining a three and getting into the lane for a few leaners. With him leading the way, Detroit took the lead, and was holding on to a 3-point advantage until there was about 1 minute left. With the score 113-110, Grant Hill got into the lane, and made a short-but-tough jumper off the glass, bringing the Bucks to within 1. After Rasheed Wallace missed on the other end, it was Wade’s turn to step up to the occasion. He crossed over his defender Rip Hamilton at the three point line, got into the lane, and hit an 8-footer to give the Bucks the lead, 114-113, with 22.5 seconds left.
 But once again it was Billups with an answer. Chauncey isolated his defender, Beno Udrih, and blew by him to the rim. He cleared space, and rose up for a dunk! But Dwight Howard clobbered him in mid-air, sending him to the free throw line to earn his 2-points. With his team down 2, and with 1.9 seconds left in the game, many players would have been extremely nervous. But Billups showed no signs of that as he calmly swished in both free throws.
 The Bucks advanced the ball with a timeout, and inbounded it to Wade, but Dwyane missed a long three that was out of his range, and the Bucks lost 115-114.

GAME NOTES
To account for Ben Wallace’s short minutes and limited production, Rasheed Wallace stepped it up with a great performance. He recorded 20 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocked shots, and 3 steals, on 9-for-21 shooting. He also held his man, Dwight Howard, to a 5-for-14 shooting night. “’Sheed did it all tonight,” Pistons coach Larry Brown remarked.

no that's not spam at all, just conversation  that is really weird though. Another weird thing that's happened to me, and you all will see once I get around to posting more games (sorry it's going so slowly but i'm really busy  ): either the Bucks or my opponent shoots EXACTLY 48-for-100 in the game! Notice in my past 2 games, Washington and then Detroit both shot 48-for-100! And I'm pretty sure it happens again! Now that's weird...

the bucks will do great deep in the playoffs IMO
thanks COOLmac I hope so...

Diogo wrote:Yeah... this happens sometimes... but 115-114 isn't that bad... this shows how strong the Bucks become.
yes, thanks Diogo. BTW you should put "have" before become. I can't tell you the exact grammatical reason  , but I'm sure it's right to say "that's how strong the Bucks have become."

yes, good observations Sensation. Wade's been "the man" all season long (Y)
