Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week4 Recaps + Monthly Report

Ginobili for MVP. Strange to see that Oklahoma City is 11-5 by the way.

Hmm.. why are the PPG's of the other players too low? I think you should adjust the simulation minutes to 12 to have more realistic averages from the CPU..

Very good recap. (Y) I am envious, you were able to fit all the needed info into one short and concise post! Nice job.

Nice work as always with the monthly recap, good to see Bosh in the MVP Candidates. Good luck with the next month, hopefully you can climb up the standings.

Nice recap. Seems like you got your guys in every important statistic and a very decent rookie, too. But still your record doesnt show that. I hope you can step up and start a streak getting above .600.

Both Ginobili and Bosh MVPs, I love it (Y)

Damn, Bosh should be front-runner for MVP.

Terrell is also looking good, should be no 1 in the end. :)

Mavs Plagued by Early Fouls in Raps Victory(107-94 Raptors)

December 2, 2009

The Mavericks got off to an awful start by letting the Raptors run rampant at the foul line. Toronto had 12 of their 22 free throws in the first quarter alone, most of which came from Chris Bosh, who managed to get Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki in early foul trouble. Dirk was saddled for most of the game with foul trouble and was played sparingly for the majority of the game.

"I honestly could not believe some of the calls that were made during the first quarter," said a very upset Nowitzki, referring to the two quick fouls that he picked up less than 2 minutes into the game and picking up another two quick fouls as soon as re-entered the game in late in the second quarter. "Those ridiculous calls really cost us the game."

The Raptors took advantage of the Mavericks lack of an inside presence and gave the Mavs an early 32-19 pounding despite shooting just below 40% from the field. The poor play from Dallas continued throughout the entire game as Dallas' players looked disinterested after their star player went out. "We got the short end of the stick in the early going," said Dallas coach Rick Carlisle. "We didn't fight through the adversity and gave up."

Things went from bad to worse as Dallas' leading scorer Josh Howard was injured at the 7:23 mark of the fourth quarter just as Dallas was attempting to make their run. Dallas was left short-handed as they had no other offensive threats on the floor other than Jason Terry, who tried to put the team on his back as he scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the third to keep the game from completely slipping away to a 20 point deficit.

Image
Chuck Terrell got things done on the other end of the court as well, racking up a total of 3 steals.

Notes:
-Reggie Evans suffered a sprained finger with 5:36 left to play in the fourth quarter after attempting to block an Antoine Wright lay-up. The Raptors' medical staff indicated that Evans could potentially miss at least 2 weeks because of the injury
-Dirk Nowitzki's struggles this game serves tell the story for the off-year that he has been having. The agile 7 footer has been averaging 16.5 points per game on 42% shooting from the field while also shooting just 29% from three.
-This marks Quincy Douby's first game played all season.
-The Mavericks came into this game with a three game winning streak.

Parker's Play Carries Spurs Down the Stretch (101-91 Spurs)

December 3, 2009

This game also had a similar beginning to the Dallas game, except this time it was Bosh who was quick to pick up two early fouls that saddled him early. The Raptors seemed to learn from the Mavericks mistake though, and they remained competitive throughout the rest of the game by playing their high-tempo weak-defense oriented basketball - a style that the Spurs managed to replicate with ease.

In a game that featured numerous lead changes (8 of them in a highly competitive third quarter), the Spurs however showed off why they are such a lauded dynasty in NBA basketball and clamped down on defense when it mattered. The Raptors were down 95-91 with only 1:24 left to play, but were held scoreless until the end of the game due to turnovers and poor shot selection.

"We lost our composure at the very end of the game," Andrea Bargnani said, who finished the game with a team high 23 points in an attempt to counteract Bosh's poor performance. "They showed why they are contenders this season by playing very well on offense and getting stops when it mattered the most."

Image
Manu Ginobili showed why he is an MVP candidate by closing out the game with crucial back to back buckets at the end of the game.

Notes:
-San Antonio has returned back to championship contender form this season. The Spurs have become a well-rounded and unselfish offensive juggernaught (leading the league in points and assists) while also getting it done on the defensive end by leading the league in steals as well.
-All-Star acquisition Richard Jefferson has been struggling to get acclimated into the Spurs' offensive system, scoring only 12.9 points per game. "I'm not worried about my touches," Jefferson said. "As long as we can come in here and get the W that's all that matters at this point."
-Spurs' guard Roger Mason Jr. was on the Raptors for a few seasons but was cut from their roster to make room for Milt Palacio.

*Terrell and Toronto Give Grizz a Thrashing (110-90 Raptors)

December 5, 2009

The worst team in the league certainly looked like it as the Raptors gave the Memphis Grizzlies a brutal beatdown for 48 minutes. The Raptors' offensive attack was led mostly by Jose Calderon, giving the Grizzlies' fits all game long with his passing and shooting ability. Calderon ran circles around opposing point guard Mike Conley Jr., scoring 15 points to go along with 15 assists. Conley on the other hand simply could not keep up in the point guard department, going 6 of 15 from the field in addition to his 7 turnovers.

The Grizzlies did get a glimpse of the near future though. O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay scored 31 and 23 points respectively, serving as the only bright spots for the Grizzlies this game. "It's frustrating to consistently put up the numbers that I've put up and still have our team lose," said an exasperated Mayo.

Many who were expecting an entertaining rookie match-up were disappointed as well. Priest Askins, the number one overall pick of the draft and the Western Conference Player of the Week played against Chuck Terrell, who was the third overall pick of the draft and the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season. Terrell outplayed his rookie counter-part greatly, showing off his overall game with 24 points 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Askins on the other hand struggled, scoring only 4 points.

Image
The rookies of the month battled it out with Terrell coming out on top.

Notes:
-This extends the Grizzlies' losing streak to three games. They have also won only 1 in their last nine games.
-Memphis' field goal percetage is the lowest in the NBA sitting at 41%.
-Marcus Banks did not see any action, even during garbage time when Jay Triano emptied his bench. Banks was activated from the inactive list in Toronto's previous game against San Antonio.

Dunleavy and Ford Carry Pacers to victory (101-97 Pacers)

December 7, 2009

After giving the worst team in the league a severe beat down, the Toronto Raptors faced off against the Indiana Pacers, who had also only won four games so far into the season. The game reared its ugly head though, as the Raptors failed to close out Indiana and let the game slip away.

"We didn't play with a sense of urgency, that was the bottom line of it," said an irate Jay Triano. "We could have won this game but we just neglected executing the game plan."

The Pacers maintained a 5 to 6 point lead for most of the game until the fourth quarter when Marion scored six consecutive points by himself to give Toronto it's first lead of the game, 73-72. When things began to swing in Toronto's favour, Toronto could not pull away as former Raptor T.J. Ford took over the game much to the mismay of the fans at the ACC. The score was eventually tied 95 apiece with 49 seconds remaining. Mike Dunleavy's hot shooting helped propel the Pacers over the hump in the final minutes as he knocked down a three pointer to give the Pacers a 98-95 edge. Jose Calderon attempted to answer back with a jumper of his own but was fouled in the process. Calderon's free throw struggles this season didn't seem evident here as he nailed both of them calmly with 26 seconds remaining. The Raptors were still down by two though, and they needed one last stop before they could go for the game winner. That didn't happen as Dunleavly recieved a pass from Danny Granger in the dying seconds of the shot clock to bury yet another three ball to put the game out of reach with 2.4 seconds remaining. The Raptors missed their three point attempt at the other end, as frustrated Raptor fans quickly emptied the stadium.

Image
T.J. Ford got the last laugh against his former team.

Notes:
-Indiana is the second worst team in the league followed by Memphis. They are currently 2-8 in the last ten games.
-Pacers guard Jarrett Jack was actually Bosh's roommate during his freshman year at Georgia Tech.
-Former fan favourite Rasho Nesterovic was rumoured to re-sign with Toronto in the off-season but elected to re-sign with Indiana after offering a multi year deal for him.

Duhon's Career High Carries Knicks to a Victory (117-113 Knicks)

December 9, 2009

The Raptors helped the New York Knicks snap a six game losing streak in this overtime loss. Although it was clear that Chris Duhon was the one who dominated the game as seen by his near triple double and career-high 36 point performance, it was Wilson Chandler and David Lee and stepped it up when the Knicks needed crucial baskets down the stretch.

Toronto on the other hand simply had a disappointing fourth quarter meltdown that led the Knicks right back into the game. "We had the lead going down the stretch but we couldn't defend some of the big shots that they made down stretch," Andrea Bargnani said. Bargnani stuffed the stat sheet this game with a 27 and 15 point performance. 19 of his 27 points were from the first two quarters though, fading away as the game winded down.

With only 2:10 left to go, the Raptors had a solid 95-87 lead and the game appeared to be a victory for Toronto. However, the Raptors allowed Gallinari and Chandler to hit three pointers while Bosh and Calderon carelessly turned the ball over consecutively. Chuck Terrell was then fouled and hit both of his free throws to help the Raptors keep their distance but the Knicks kept coming. David Lee then capitalized on the Raptors misforunes once again by slamming it home after a communication break down on a pick and roll. Bosh missed an easy jumper from the corner and Duhon made him pay by nailing a three pointer as the Knicks were now shockingly on top, 99-97. Luckily for the Raptors, Calderon swished a tough mid range jumper just as time expired to send it to overtime.

Overtime mirrored the fourth quarter as well. Toronto had a 111-104 lead in the extra period when of all a sudden that 7 point lead evaporated into a 3 point lead. Duhon, Lee and Chandler all scored unanswered baskets as the Raptors let another winnable game slip away.

Image
Duhon simply loves to play against Toronto.

Notes:
-Duhon has averaged 32.5 points per game against the Raptors thus far in the season.
-This game was a pivotal one for the Knicks, who as of right now are in 9th place in the Eastern Conference. The Washingotn Wizards currently sit at 8th with an 11-11 record while the Raptors are 7th.
-The Knicks are currently the third best offensive rebounding team in the league.

Raptor of the Week

Image
Chuck Terrell

There's no doubt that Chuck Terrell has had played better weeks for the Raptors, but due to the fact that no one on the team has really played consistently this week we thought that the rook out of USC should finally deserve the honour. Terrell has scored 15+ points in four of the five games this week - two of which were 20 point games. Pretty impressive considering his role and minute are relegated to off the bench due to Shawn Marion. Another aspect that has been getting some notice is Terrell's passing ability. Chuck's had some pretty nice games this week where he's shown that he can do a lot more than score on the offensive end.

Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week 5 Recap

Thu Jul 23, 2009 2:08 am

XxCavaliers - Yeah Jeff Green in my opinion is probably going to win the MIP. But Live 2005 is known to picks some really strange MIP candidates (ones that usually show no improvement whatsoever)

homicide1550 - The simulated stats are actually 12 minute quarters. I think this more has to do with Live 2005 itself. I remember the stats tend to get really low for point production whenever you play more than one season.

Sit - Thanks for the compliment, it certainly took a toll on my wrist from typing all of those statistics out though.

Andrew - Right now it seems like the team is on a mini slump and is unable to close out games in a similar fashion to the Raptors of the 08-09 season.... Some very winnable games that were squandered by poor play down the stretch this week.

hova- - Yeah I was pretty surprised at how well my team was doing in terms of individual stats but I think the team's inability to consistently nail shots from long range is really starting to hurt this team.

thierryhenry50 - Bosh definitely has outplayed a lot of the MVP candidates statistically, but the team's not-so-stellar record really brings him down. I'm notorious for being unable to win MVP awards for the team that I play with, no matter how well I do with my players....

Martti. - Yep, as I said earlier Bosh's team record isn't so hot, which is probably why he's not really high on that list and Ginobili is so high. He's had an even worse week this week and I wouldn't be surprised if he fell off of the MVP race completely soon.

Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week 5 Recap

Terrell will be the second rookie to win 6th man of the year. And hopefully ROY.

2-3, could be a better week. The Knicks and the Pacers were beatable..

Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week 5 Recap

Thu Jul 23, 2009 3:37 am

Decent week, though you had some games that got away from you. Production from your main guys was consistently good though. Lol at Chris Bosh and Jose Calderon leading the league in points and assists with respectively low numbers. Let's hope the real deal can do that well this upcoming season.

nice job of Bargnani to shut down the #1 pick; could he actually be evolving into a legit defender or just rookie nerves on Askins part?

Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week 5 Recap

Thu Jul 23, 2009 6:54 am

Not a good week. As Terrell starts to develope into a star, your team starts to play worse. Ls against the Pacers and Knicks were not really necessary, especially when you manage to win against the Mavs. I love the read. It's interesting but also not too long which I prefer usually. The Notes are nice. I think you should give Banks some PT at least. His contract may be silly but he is not so bad. With 5M I guess hes pretty untradable though. Keep it up. I hope you can start a run next week.

Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week 5 Recap

Thu Jul 23, 2009 12:14 pm

Really tough week, good luck in the next one. Good to see Terrell still playing well though.

"I honestly could not believe some of the calls that were made during the first quarter," said a very upset Nowitzki, referring to the two quick fouls that he picked up less than 2 minutes into the game and picking up another two quick fouls as soon as re-entered the game in late in the second quarter. Third Quarter Beat Down Hurts Raptors (100-89 Kings)

December 15, 2009

The Raptors' struggles continue as they notched their third consecutive loss to the newly revamped up and coming Sacramento Kings. The game was lost in typical Raptor fashion, as Toronto let Sacramento's wing tandem of Andres Nocioni and Kevin Martin run rampant on the perimeter throughout the game. The Kings duo scored more than half of the team's points, tallying a combined 58 of the Kings' 100 points. "It was really a pick your poisin type of game with these two guys today," said Kings power forward Jason Thompson. "When either Kevin or Andres would start to cool off, the other would just take over."

A perfect example of this came in the third quarter when the Sacramento Kings slowly but surely began to put the game out of reach for the Raps. Martin and Nocioni eached had 8 and 9 points respectively in the quarter to help the Kings obtain a double digit margin by outscoring the Raptors 27-20.

"K-Mart and Nocioni - that was essentially their team right there," said Raptors point guard Jose Calderon, who finished with a nice 17-5-7 stat line. "If we could only protect the mid range area a little bit better and prevented them from nailing a couple of those pull up jumpers from the top of the circle, we would have walked out of here a lot more happier."

Image
Fredrik Ratchuk did not shoot the ball well but distributed the ball nicely with 7 assists.

Notes:
-Both the Raptors and Kings are currently placed 7th in their respective conferences.
-While the Raptors have been struggling as of late, the Kings have been on a roll, winning 6 of their last 10 games. Some of these victories have come against tough teams such as the Lakers, who have the best record in the NBA and have also beat the Celtics who are currently the second best team in the East in both meetings already.
-Raptors guard Quincy Doubt was actually a first round pick (19th overall) by the Kings in the 2006 draft, but was waived by the Kings to make room for a trade.

Poor Shooting Gives Raps 4th Straight Loss (101-96 Nets)

December 17, 2009

The Nets wasted little time to exact revenge and capitalize on the reeling Raptors. Toronto had come up on top after a high-tension triple overtime thriller from the last time that the two teams played each other. "We definitely marked this day down on our calenders," said Nets forward Bobby Simmons. "They got us good last time we played them, we wanted to return the favour."

And return the favour they did. The Raptors were sluggish out of the gate with 3 consecutive turnovers at the opening tip which resulted in an early 8 point lead for the Nets. The Raptors then began forcing turnovers of their own by pressuring the Nets' backcourt into throwing errant passes that allowed Toronto to climb back out of their early hole. They even managed to take the lead at one point in the third quarter after a barrage of three pointers netted the Raptors a 73-66 lead - their only lead of the game against New Jersey's weak second unit.

Once again, the Raptors struggled hit their shots when it mattered, as they failed to maintain their lead after hitting only one of their first sixteen shots of the fourth quarter. As a result, the Nets cruised the rest of the way to what should have been a harder fought victory.

Image
The Raptors' woes on perimeter defense was exploited once again, this time by Courtney Lee.

Notes:
-This is New Jersey's first win against a division rival (they were 0-3 prior to this game)
-Third time was the charm for the Nets as they previously lost to the Raptors twice already this season.
-In addition to their poor play against Atlantic division teams, the Nets are also surprisingly worse-off against weaker Eastern Conference teams with a record of 5-12.

Raptor of the Week

Image
Chris Bosh

Both games that the Raptors played in this week resulted in losses with none of the players on the Raptors' roster performing consistently for those two games. The default player to turn to in this situation would be Bosh, who despite putting up fairly pedestrian scoring numbers is probably the least disappointing player this week. Even though Bosh's offensive numbers pale in comparison to November, the leading scorer in the NBA has stepped it up in other areas of the game. One area that was especially gratifying to see was Bosh's passing game. In the two losses this week Bosh's unselfish playmaking ability allowed him to have an eerily KG-esque stat line for the week. Too bad Bosh hasn't exactly shown the KG-esque leadership to lead the team as of yet.

APG - 5.5

Ouch,tough losses right there.
Maybe you should do a trade to shake something up,its not going well. :?

Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week 5 + 6 Recap

Fri Jul 24, 2009 12:32 pm

Martti. - Yeah I know, it's tough when Calderon is the only one that can keep up with the other team's three point shooting.

Skillmatic - I have a feeling that Calderon well definitely be near the top of the NBA in terms of assist-to-turnover ratio. That's not the case in my dynasty though... I force my passes way too much with Calderon. :P

thierryhenry50 - Definitely. He dropped 31 earlier against me in the season as well. He's just one of those players whose shot is simply way too overpowered in the game.

Clutch - Although he has been labelled a soft center for his perimeter play, Bargnani is actually a pretty solid post defender despite the fact that he doesn't grab a lot of rebounds (he compliments Bosh that way as Chris tends to be the one who grabbed the boards after Bargnani would come over with the weak side help). It's not that often that you match up against a 7 foot center with that kind of foot speed everyday.

BaronDavis1 - I'm not too sure if I can with this roster. Before I was a little skeptical of making a trade but now it looks like the team's chances of making the playoffs aren't looking really good.

hova- - Thanks for the compliments, I tended to make single game recaps in my previous dynasties that tended to drag on my main points. I'm trying to correct that with this dynasty, I'm glad you noticed.

And no, as of right now I have no intention of playing Banks. I don't think there is a single Raptor fan out there who wants him to play a minute of basketball next season, haha.

Andrew - Heh, I was thinking about adding that in the notes section for fun, but I was too lazy to research how much fines are for criticizing referees. Inaccuracies and unrealistic scenarios are a major gripe of mine, even if it is a tiny bit of information such as that.

XxCavaliers - I would say it was a pretty awful week myself. I lost some very winnable games and failed to break even. If I had won those games I probably would be at a much more comfortable position than I am now and these other two losses probably wouldn't have hurt as much.

Re: Its_asdf's Raptors Dynasty - Week 6 Recap

Fri Jul 24, 2009 8:39 pm

Bad losses against Kings and Nets. Calderon and Bosh are playing well. Good to see you kept Marion. He's really what the Raptors need, because he doesn't need the ball often and can score on offensive rebounds. Is Chuck Terell a poor man's Caron Butler?
On Banks, he isn't that bad. He's a better defender than Calderon obviously, its just his contract that is bad.

Two losses against mediocre teams.. You should shake something up to be consistently over the .500 mark. Not much, but maybe experiment starting Terrell.
