Vinny Del Negro's Chicago Bulls suffered a 110-87 thumping at the hands of the Orlando Magic with Dwight Howard posting 20 points and "only" eight rebounds, as Rashard Lewis earned Player Of The Game honors, scoring 18 and 12, staying perfect from the floor (8-of-8). This win extended Orlando unbeaten run to 4: 4-0 to start the season in a high note. Hedo Turkoglu added 16 points, 7-of-11 from the floor for the Magic. The Bulls got 40 points and nine assists from Derrick Rose but it wasn't enough. Ben Gordon added 22 points and Brad Miller 10, with Chicago trailing by 17 points after the first quarter. The Bulls were playing without John Salmons, injured, but Orlando looked well-rested and hungry, holding the uninspired Bulls to 5-of-21 shooting in the first quarter and enjoying advantages in rebounds (38-29), second-chance points (10-4), points in the paint (52-34) and assists (28-19) in the game. "We are really good right now. We get out to the best of starts and we want to take the best out of this games we are playing at home,'' Lewis said. "Trying to come out there with a lot of energy.''
The players tried to take the attention away from Del Negro, who is suffering rumors of being fired, and put it on their shoulders. "The truth is," Gordon said, "Vinny (the coach) is not out there on the court. John Paxson (manager) is not out there on the court. It's me, Derrick, Brad, Luol (Deng), and these guys in here. It has to change within us before anything.'' Rose added that "They could do whatever they wanted to do. But it starts right here in this locker room with us. Jesus Christ himself could come out here and coach us, but if we don't go out there and play hard and play together, it won't mean nothing.'' The Magic posted a 12-2 run in the middle of the first quarter and never looked back, leading by 21 starting the second half to turn this one into a laugher and another easy win following the 109-81 rout of the Sacramento Kings.
Both teams suffered 4 turnovers, Jameer Nelson having 2: "I guess we have to find somebody else to go to who will not turn the ball over,'' Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Jameer is not taking care of the ball right now. It's tough to go to post-ups late." Van Gundy later questioned whether Turkoglu, in the final year of his contract, is in shape. "His conditioning's not great either. When he gets a little tired he doesn't want to do anything except jack up a jump shot.'' Turkoglu answered, "Sometimes during the game, when I've gone up and down, I feel like my shots kind of short. I get tired during the game running up and down but that doesn't mean I'm out of shape.'' The Bulls, not expecting to match up with Howard and Lewis up front, often went with three point guards in the lineup - Gordon, Rose and Kirk Hinrich, who had 5 points.
Game Notes
• Rose was 10-of-10 on free throws for Chicago;
• Magic backup Rafer Alston, had only 4 points off the bench but it's slowly taking minutes away from Nelson at the point. "Rafer' been the only guy on the entire team we were plus with with him on the floor in the first three games,'' Van Gundy said. "That decision was easy for me, but not easy for Jameer.''
• Bulls center Joakim Noah was the only player to remain scoreless in the game;
• Orlando's bench outscored the Bulls's 38-5;
• The Magic outshot Chicago, hitting 59 percent, against Bulls' 46 percent;
• Swiss tennis super-star Roger Federer watched from a courtside seat;
• Orlando will play its 3 next games at the Amway Arena, against Philadelphia (November 6), Washington (November 8) and Portland (November 10).

Orlando (4-0) raced to a 14-point first-quarter lead and never looked back in it's fourth win of the season on Monday: 110-87 over Chicago. Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy was critical of the Magic's lack of execution in the third quarter, when they had three turnovers and were a Ben Gordon 3-pointer away from have the game tied at 70, but another 12-2 run sealed the game. "I guess we have to find somebody else to go to who will not turn the ball over," Van Gundy said of Jameer Nelson, who's slowly starting to lose minutes to Rafer Alston. "Turning the ball over is a sure-fire way of guaranteeing failure in the NBA," Van Gundy said. Rashard Lewis added that "We are 4-0, you can't count out the Magic, even with this frequency in which we are giving up extra possessions to the opponent."
After posting a career-best 2.72 assists-turnover ratio in 2007-08, Nelson had only a few turnovers (5) compared to his assists (38) this season, but his game against Chicago wasn't good. Besides, he is shooting just 35 percent from the field, but 50 percent from 3-point range. He could use another game like in February last season, when he scored 31 points and set a career high with seven 3-pointers in Orlando's 115-99 win against the 76ers. Van Gundy also said that "Hedo (Turkoglu)'s conditioning is not great. When he gets a little tired he doesn't want to do anything except jack up a jump shot.'' Conditioning never seems to be an issue for Dwight Howard, who posted 20 points and 8 rebounds. In eight career home games against Philadelphia, Howard is averaging 19.3 points and 13.4 rebounds while the Magic have gone 6-2. Lewis finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds against Chicago, staying perfect from the field: 8-of-8 field goals.
While Orlando is turning the ball over 5.3 times per game (a league-best), the 76ers give it away 14.3 times per contest. In Wednesday's 120-98 loss at Miami, Philadelphia (3-2) committed 11 turnovers, 8 in the opening 24 minutes, the Heat winning 60-43 starting the third quarter. "In the first half we turned the ball over every chance we got," 76ers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "We didn't make shots, we turned the ball over and they got a lot of layups." Miami shot 14-of-29 treys while Philadelphia only 2-of-16. Elton Brand led Philadelphia with 27 points and 8 rebounds (after a 40-13 effort in the Sixers' 133-99 win over Sacramento), while Thaddeus Young added 18 points. Andre Miller and Andre Iguodala were held to 10 points apiece.
Philadelphia lost three of four to the Magic last season, including both meetings in Orlando. The 76ers' last road win in the series was a 105-103 decision on Nov. 3, 2006, behind 39 points and 10 assists from Allen Iverson.
