EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Lakers cut ties with three of their youngest players yesterday. J.R. Pinnock and Devin Green failed to make the cut; failing to appear in any of the Lakers’ preseason games thus far while Von Wafer has been sidelined with a foot injury. The three players were released just a fortnight before the start of the regular season opener.

“We are reluctant in releasing them but all three players don’t have guaranteed contracts and we need to pursue other objectives within the club,” General Manager Mitch Kupchak stated, “One of those aims is to sign a big man to help with our injury problems.”

The Lakers, who had more than a handful of guards at the two guard spots on the roster, found that it was an easy decision to make in concern to cutting the three swingmen. It is expected that the three will be pursuing other calls of interest from overseas clubs.

“I’m definitely disappointed that I’ve been cut from the team,” Von Wafer stated, “But I know what went wrong and I can build on my career by using this experience of being with the Lakers.”

The Lakers are said to be interested in finding a centre and have been reportedly in contact with Jahidi White and injured veteran Antonio Davis. Michael Olowokandi who is currently trying out for the Boston Celtics is also a long shot at joining the Lakers’ roster while Phil Jackson has been attempting to coax former Bulls star Toni Kukoc into joining his side.

Nah, I'm confident with my SG position...

Kobe >> Evans >> Sasha

And I will let Evans start and Sasha back him up whole Kobe is out...

Mark. wrote:Nice win, im hoping Farmar is going to take a big role for you this season

It's hard not to let him start but next game I will start Williams and see if I like him... he's a good shooter (Y) While Smush is out, I will see if I will let Farmar start... it will be him or Sasha maybe... or Williams...

And don't wanna be a bitch man, but have you started on my banners?

It would be good if you could tell me who you think I should sign

All good bro, well as I said in my thread, I had to reformatt my computer, so im in the process of getting brushes etc for PS. But ill see if I can make something without them (Y)

Mon Oct 30, 2006 6:47 pm

I guess you shouldn't rush then! I don't need them that urgently anyways, I think my dynasty looks alright as it is anyways... maybe a bit plain but its all good. (Y)

Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:33 pm

oh man, I suggest you to sign Kukoc, but it may be pretty unrealistic. Kandi also would be a nice addition, but he is still in Boston. Its your choice anyway, but don't dare to deal with Jahidi

Game Preview: Los Angeles Clippers (2-2) at Los Angeles Lakers (2-2)
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The annual Lakers Shootout begins tonight as the Lakers take on the Clippers in the second game of the night. The winners of this game will get to play against the winner of the game between the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Hornets tomorrow.

Elton Brand hasn’t played much this off-season as he rests his body from this Summer’s World Championship campaign. Brand will most probably start his first game against the Lakers tonight and provide a handful for the young front court of Andrew Bynum, Brian Cook and Ronny Turiaf.

Lakers forward Vladimir Radmanovic has been sidelined by team doctors as his right hand is said to have become inflamed. His absence means that the Lakers will need to rely on their young players even more. Kurt Rambis is still optimistic, “As we showed against Sacramento, we can hold our own.” Lakers signing Shammond Williams will get a chance to show off his skills as he has been slated to start in front of rookie Jordan Farmar.

The Clippers will be a tough team for the Lakers to contain on defence and if the Lakers want to win, they must buckle down on defence and stop the running game of their cross-town rivals. Coming off a big win against the Kings, the Lakers are confident in themselves. Sasha Vujacic, the hero of the Lakers’ game against the Kings after scoring 31 points, predicted, “We are going to have a big win!”

Tue Oct 31, 2006 7:48 am

Jalen Rose just got cut in real life by the Knicks... I think I may pick him up (Y)

so my list of players I can get:

- Kandi
- Antonio Davis
- Jalen Rose
- Toni Kukoc
- Jahidi White

Who do you guys think I should get?

Tue Oct 31, 2006 7:50 am

Well Rose seems to be the perfect decision, he's a great shooter, could backup Radmanovic(not to mention Walton)...

Tue Oct 31, 2006 7:52 am

Yay, grab Rose for sure if you have a chance. And get Kandi at C. Thats my opinion

Tue Oct 31, 2006 9:17 am

I'm only signing one player... and it may only be tempoary while all my players are injured... I'm leaning towards Davis or White though, sorry Marquis!

Wed Nov 01, 2006 8:13 am

If you got Rose I would expect him to be the type of player to get a lot of minutes, IMO he should start over Radman. If your looking to get another big I would say Davis or Kandi...

Wed Nov 01, 2006 9:02 am

Kandi, the rest are way too old.

I thought about maybe Rose but its only going to be a sort of quick fix... we will see what happens in real life... I'm not sure if he would take a minimum contract...

Anthony15 wrote:Kandi, the rest are way too old.

I've decided that I want to go with a proven veteran player so Kandi is out now... It's down to either White or Davis and Rose or Kukoc... And yes, I will consider waiving another player to be able to get two dudes...

Clippers Outgun Lakers
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) -- Andrew Bynum played his best game of the preseason as he took over the fourth quarter by scoring 10 of his 17 points and grabbing 5 of his 10 rebounds. The Los Angeles Lakers though, never looked like it would threaten their cross town rivals as Corey Maggette scored the majority of his points in the final 6 minutes of the game.

Maggette with 13 points and Elton Brand had 14 points and 10 rebounds in his successful comeback to the starting line up. Cuttino Mobley had a poor shooting night but still ended the game with 12 points, Chris Kaman took advantage of Bynum’s inexperience early in the game and finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds, while Sam Cassell chipped in 10 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Lakers were led by Maurice Evans who top scored with 23 points. Brian Cook aided his team with a contribution of 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and Shammond Williams was rusty as he picked up his sixth foul in the middle of the final quarter. Williams still did enough to impress the coaching staff by throwing in 9 points and 7 assists.

“It was a sloppy game,” admitted Kurt Rambis, “I will say that we didn’t really play at our full potential but I’m sure we will be more ready tomorrow night against the Warriors.” The Lakers move on to play the Golden State Warriors who lost 101-96 to the New Orleans Hornets in the annual Lakers Shootout.

Lamar Odom was at the game and cheered on his team mates. He told a reporter, “The arm is hurting so I don’t think there’s much chance of me coming back early.” Kobe Bryant was next to his team mate and gave more grim news to the team, “I don’t think I will make it to opening night either.”

Game Notes

Vladimir Radmanovic will most likely play in the next game but doctors have advised him to have surgery on his shooting hand in the next off-season rather than have it now… The Lakers drop to 2-3 for preseason play… The Lakers are in talks with Jahidi White and Antonio Davis to join the team…

Maurice Evans Leads Lakers in Close Win
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) -- Without ailing stars Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom, the Los Angeles Lakers have found a new source of inspiration from Maurice Evans. The former Detroit Piston lost the an in-game scoring duel with the Golden State Warriors’ Baron Davis but his near triple double and defence helped the Lakers edge the Warriors by just two points.

Evans finished the game with 27 points, 14 assists and 7 rebounds and contributed to holding Jason Richardson to just 1 of 12 shooting in the first half of the game. Evans was critical to his team in the final quarter as he contributed 6 points and 4 assists leading to Coach Kurt Rambis to comment, “Evans kind of helped score 14 of our fourth quarter points and he stopped a few more.”

It was Evans’ heroics in the dying moments to force the Warriors’ Mickael Pietrus into the corner of the court and not allowing the French national to get past half way or pass the ball forward; leading to a Hail Mary shot with just 2 seconds left in the game. “Mo Evans really put a strangle hold on Pietrus at the end,” Rambis said, “Literally. He was tight on both ends of the floor tonight and carried us to the win.”

Andrew Bynum also had another big game with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks but struggled on defence with his fouls. He fouled out with 6 minutes left in the match and without the big man in the middle, the Warriors were able to make a comeback to even the score. Injured player Vladimir Radmanovic came off the pine to sink several big shots in the second half and finished with 15 points while Shammond Williams did the same by adding 10 points. Luke Walton did a commendable job on defence by holding Pietrus to 4 of 15 shooting.

The Warriors were led by a game high of 44 points from All-star guard Baron Davis who was seemingly unstoppable with the ball in his hands. Troy Murphy cleaned up on the glass with 14 rebounds; 4 of them on the offensive end, and Jason Richardson scored 7 of his 16 points in the final quarter after having a slow start in the first half.

Don Nelson wasn’t impressed with his team’s performance labelling it as sloppy and allowing the Lakers to use their size to get past them. “The Lakers really made use of Andrew Bynum because he was clearly the biggest player on the court. I’m not complaining about that because that’s what they should do to win and they did. I’m more concerned that we weren’t able to outrun this Lakers team because we can do that. Jason and Mikael and Mike (Dunleavy) just didn’t take advantage of a team missing all of their starting five.”

The game was close throughout before the home side decided to push forward at the start of the final period by increasing their 7 point lead to 14 points. After Bynum fouled out, the Lakers struggled to score for several minutes as Baron Davis slowly chipped away at the Lakers lead with his 13 fourth quarter points. A Jason Ricahrdson three pointer tied the game at 87-87 with 2:32 left in the game. Both teams played sloppy basketball before Radmanovic sunk a long three with 1:23 left to put LA ahead 90-87.

Brian Cook and Shammond Williams forced a turnover at halfway from Davis and the Lakers then found Cook in the post for two more points to push the score to 92-87 with 57 seconds left. Baron Davis made a three pointer right in front of the Lakers bench with 32 seconds left and he stole the ball off of Williams with 24.6 seconds left in the game. The Warriors then called for a time out to work things out.

Davis was then given the ball down in the post but couldn’t get past the arms of Evans so he whipped the ball up to the high post and into Troy Murphy’s hands. Murphy missed the shot and Evans retrieved the rebound and was promptly sent to the line. With 14.8 seconds left, Evans’ two free throws helped the Lakers to a 94-90 lead. Pietrus then rushed the ball up the floor and scored a clutch shot with 7.2 seconds left. The Lakers’ Williams was then fouled and the Staples Centre went silent as Williams missed both shots.

With no time outs left, Murphy passed to Pietrus who dribbled the ball up the floor. Even though Richardson and Davis were streaking down the court to the other end, the defensive pressure of Maurice Evans forced the French player to dribble towards the where the sideline meets the halfway line as time expired. Noticing that his work was done, Evans eased off of Pietrus who let off a shot as the buzzer sounded from near half way.res jumper (94-92), fouls Williams who misses both, then Evans forces Pietrus into a tough position, missing shot from near halfway

“When Pietrus was about to step out, I knew that time was up because everyone started to cheer again,” Evans said, “Even though this was a preseason game, it was intense.”

Game Notes

Ronny Turiaf had his third straight double double in the preseason… Evans was acquired for the Lakers’ Cheick Samb second round draft pick on Draft night after he requested to be moved to a team that would offer him more game time… The Lakers are reportedly close to a deal with centre Jahidi White… The Warriors lost to the New Orleans Hornets in the first game of the annual Lakers shootout. The Hornets went on to beat the Clippers to come first place in this year’s two day spectacle…
