Draft Lottery

With the third best record in the NBA last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have the 28th and 58th picks in the 2006 Rookie Draft. The Atlanta Hawks secured the 1st lottery pick.

With their first round pick, the prospect the Cavaliers are looking to draft is Seal Everett. He is a 21 year old Small Forward who stands 6'9" and weighs 263lbs. He is predicted to go late in the 1st Round, which is where the Cavs' pick is. The Cleveland staff see him as a back-up to superstar LeBron James, a role previously occupied by Donyell Marshall. Marshall is out of contract in the summer and is unlikely to be offered a new contract by the Cavs.

The Cavaliers realise that by the 58th pick their will be hardly any real talent remaining in the draft. That being said, they are looking to draft 22 year old Point Guard Irwin Wiggins. He is 6'0" and weight 180lbs and is projected to be taken late in the second round. Cleveland view him as a rotation player originally - the third choice point guard behind Eric Snow and Damon Jones.

Re-Signing Players

Centre Dan Gadzuric agreed to a new two-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, paying him $3.35M per year.. Gadzuric was acquired at the start of last season from the Milwaukee Bucks along with Michael Redd in exchange for Larry Hughes and Alan Henderson. Gadzuric impressed a lot of people with his play off the bench, at times forming a formidable tandem with Anderson Varejao.

Forward Drew Gooden signed a huge five-year deal that will pay him $6.82M per year. Gooden excelled as a starter as he led the team in rebounding and averaged double figures in scoring. When superstar LeBron James was injured mid-season, Gooden took the reigns along with Zydrunas Ilgauskas and put up season high numbers in both points and rebounds.

Shooting Guard Michael Redd also signed a 5-year contract that will pay him $6.84M a year. Redd struggled early in the season after being traded from Milwaukee but found his form after a mid-season injury. At times during the regular season and the playoffs, he combined brilliantly with LeBron James, showing glimpses of the deadly partnership they could form this season.

Finally, veteran Point Guard Damon Jones signed a 4-year contract with the Cavaliers that will pay him $4.04M a year. The 29-year old played mostly off the bench this season but always brought a three-point threat amongst other things. He started a few games for the Cavaliers last season and they never lost when he started.

Both Darius Songaila and Donyell Marshall were out of contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer and neither received new deals.

Songaila was acquired mid-season from Chicago in a trade that sent Ira Newble the other way. Songaila came with an expiring contract and formally agreed with the Cavaliers that if they could not get him minutes in their rotation system then they would allow him to leave in the summer to find a new team.

Marshall was brought in from the Raptors last season and provided a good alternative to LeBron James off the bench. He started a handful of games when James was injured but failed to capture his scoring touch of recent years.

Draft Night

With the 28th Pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select...

SEAL EVERETT (70 Overall)

Position: Small Forward
Age: 21
Height: 6'9"
Weight: 263lbs

Notes: The Cleveland Cavaliers get their man. Everett will provide youth as well as cover for LeBron James at the 4. He has great range, comfortable shooting from beyond the arch, mid-range or underneath the rim. He needs to work on his defence as he has a tendecy to give his man too much room on occasion.

-

With the 58th Pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select...

IRWIN WIGGINS (64 Overall)

Position: Point Guard
Age: 22
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 180lbs

Notes: The Cavaliers again get their man. Wiggins will go immediately into rotation and will add youth to the point guard position - currently occupied by veterans Eric Snow and Damon Jones. Wiggins is slightly undersized and also needs to develop his three-point game. Will look to his senior teammates to help him improve.

Free Agent Signings

The majority of potentially big free agents were re-signed to their respective clubs. However, there were two notable signings this summer.

ImageImage

26/07/06 - Ben Wallace to the Chicago Bulls ($12.61M pet year)
The Chicago Bulls went some way to solving their front court problems with the signing of veteran centre Ben Wallace. The current Defensive Player of the Year enjoyed huge success with the Detroit Pistons but has decided to move on. Bulls' Head Coach Scott Skiles will hope that Wallace can bring the best out of potential front court partner Tyson Chandler, and also bring some vital experience to a young Chicago side.

-

01/08/06 - Donyell Marshall to the Atlanta Hawks ($8.55M pet year)
The Atlanta Hawks recruited veteran forward Donyell Marshall to their team this August. Marshall struggled at the Cleveland Cavaliers but, like Wallace, will look to bring veteran leadership to another young side. He will face competition for starts with Josh Smith but should fit easily into the Atlanta set-up. He will contribute in all areas of the court, notably with his scoring and rebounding.

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. I've been really busy with work and in doing so I've kind of lost interest in this dynasty. I might start another one soon but I won't be continuing this one. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that dude, hope you enjoy your next one if you get it started (Y)
