Off Season Approaches...

With the Offseason approaching, there are many members of the Milwaukee Bucks who are reaching the end of their contract:

Michael Redd
Dan Gadzuric
Steven Hunter
Eddie House
Josh Davis
Esteban Batista

Of these six players, Michael Redd and Dan Gadzuric are already confirmed to return to Milwaukee, their new contracts all but signed.
The remaining four, however, are not certain to be returning to Milwaukee for the 2006-07 season.

Of the remaining four players, who would you rather have back?

Thu Jan 12, 2006 11:41 pm

I think it should be Steven Hunrt and Eddie House. (Y)

Marquee Matchup

T.J. Ford and Gilbert Arenas

Keys to Winning

To keep their three game winning streak alive, Milwaukee has to restrict Arenas' scoring, while getting the ball to Korver and Redd at the perimeter for open shots.

In order to take down the Bucks fast offence, Washington needs to play the game at their own pace, and cannot let Korver, or Redd, get the ball in a half-court set.

30 Each from Korver and Redd Beat Wizards
Milwaukee takes over in the fourth quarter to snatch a win.

The Bucks scored 38 of their 111 points in a decisive final quarter to take the lead for good after trailing for the entire game. After a 15 point first quarter, it seemed Milwaukee was done for, Washington looked to have the upper hand.
In the second and third quarter, the game was matched evenly with both teams scoring goal for goal, until the fourth quarter, in which Milwaukee shot 10-19 field goals, including 6-12 from downtown in a game full of bad shooting. Both teams shot under 40% FG. Milwaukee also shot perfectly from behind the charity stripe for 10 points.

Eddie House took player of the game honours, coming off the bench and scoring 14 points to go with his 8 assists and 5 steals. He was on fire on defence and offence, setting up plays and even finishing some himself. T.J. Ford had 10 assists to go with 3 points, taking a backseat to House’s hot hand.
Michael Redd and Kyle Korver once again took the bulk of the scoring, with 31 and 30 points each respectively, many of their points once again, coming from
three point range. Ricky Davis’ work on his outside shot has greatly improved his shooting style and accuracy. It showed today as he made both his field goals from long range.
Of Gadzuric’s 9 rebounds, 7 were offensive. He was second only to Jefferson’s 11 rebounds. Bogut was quiet with 5 rebounds and 6 points, but
managed 3 blocks. Jefferson’s 10 points and 5 blocks dwarfed this, and even Gadzuric had 3 blocks off the bench.

Jamison continued his good form this season, scoring 17 points to go with 12 rebounds as Washington out rebounded Milwaukee 51 to 41. Brendon Haywood had 10 rebounds and 6 points, the Washington frontcourt was much more effective rebounding than the Bucks.
Gilbert Arenas had 25 points,
driving too easily into the paint, and even shooting over the short T.J. Ford.
Washington had 31 free throw attempts to Milwaukee’s 15, and only missed 5 of them. The Bucks missed 4 of theirs. Calvin Booth was
injured on one of his trips to the ring, he jarred his knee in what would turn out to be a sprained ligament in his lower thigh. He will be out for the rest of the season while he has surgery to ensure it will not reoccur.
Jeffries nearly had a
double-double, as Jamison, Butler and Hayes all scored in double figures.

Milwaukee takes on the rookie Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets next week in Oklahoma.

Bogut Uncovers a Triple Double in Huge Victory
Andrew Bogut’s massive game propels Milwaukee to a massive win.

Andrew Bogut continued his excellent season form, proving to the disbelievers that he truly is a force to be reckoned with in the paint. He had a career high 10 blocks against New Orleans today, a huge factor in the Buck’s 23 point win. His 10 blocks came with 13 rebounds and 18 points, as well as keeping P.J. Brown to only 4 points from 3 shots.

Bogut’s triple double was his first in his short NBA career, yet hopefully one of many to come. It was also the first for any Milwaukee player this season, and only the third for the entire NBA. The other rookie, Chris Paul, is not having quite the season Bogut is, however was able to
jack up 35 shots today in a disgraceful 8 point performance. He simply could not grasp the fact that four leading shot blockers were waiting in Milwaukee to swat his shots away, and probably had his worst game for the season.

J.R. Smith and Nachbar both had 17 points in the match up. Smith put Bogut and Ford on
posters during the game, showing some driving too easily acrobatic moves in the air with power. Many of the points from the Hornets came from the paint, with lots of dunks and lay-ups, an accurate measure of this would be the 22 blocks from Milwaukee.

Charlie Bell got his
first minutes for the season today; scoring two points from three shots, and also had a rebound. The bench production from Milwaukee was all-around good, Ricky Davis leading the way with 14 points. Eddie House had 8 assists, 4 steals and 7 points sharing the PG position with Ford. Ford had 6 points and 8 assists.
Once again, Kyle Korver had a magnificent game, scoring 31 points on over 60 percent shooting. He also had 4 assists.
To go with Bogut’s triple double, Al Jefferson was not quiet himself, racking up an even stat line with 11 points 9 rebounds 4 assists 3 blocks and a steal.

With a clinched playoff position, Milwaukee is now playing for home court advantage, and take on Indiana in their next match, another contender for the NBA Championship.

Who Can Stop Them?
Korver shoots 41 and the Bucks continue their winning streak and improve to 17-8.

Who can stop the fast paced, accurate attack of the Milwaukee Bucks? Certainly it isn’t the Pacers, allowing Milwaukee to shoot 50 percent from long range, making 21-42 shots from outside.

Andrew Bogut was relatively quiet, especially after his last game in which he scored a triple double. He only played a small fraction of the game, fouling out early on. This seemed to be great for Esteban Batista, who was taken off the inactive list for the first time whilst in Milwaukee. Bogut’s foul trouble opened the door for Batista to get some minutes on court, yet he only managed 1 rebound in his time. Reece Gains also achieved some court time, with 4 points and 2 assists.
Kyle Korver
shot over 50 percent for a huge 41 points, Michael Redd even had 28, yet did not shoot as accurate as Korver managed to.
Ford and House once again occupied the one guard, assisting their teammates first, shooting second, and combined for 15 dimes.

Off the bench, Ricky Davis had another great game, scoring 19 points and was perfect from downtown.
Steven Hunter had 15 points and 6 rebounds with 4 blocks, important stats with Bogut in such deep foul trouble.

Jermaine O’Neal had 17 and 9, an important performance, yet was overshadowed by Jackson, who scrapped out 24 points with a steal, block and a few assists.
Tinsley had 23 points as well as 5 assists and 4 steals. Jasikevicius had 15 points
off the bench , but disappointed with 6 turnovers. Fred Jones was a surprise, dunking over the hapless Milwaukee defence, and well as getting 6 assists. Indiana played good team defence, putting lots of pressure on the shots inside the key, but had no answer for the sharpshooters in Redd and Korver.

It’s up to Miami to slow down Milwaukee next game, Bogut and O’Neal will be a match up to remember.

The Young Outplays the Old
The young Andrew Bogut outplayed the veteran Shaq, bringing the Bucks to another win.

Milwaukee had a strong fourth quarter, outscoring Miami by 12 points, and that was enough to come from behind to win by a small margin. After leading in the first quarter, the Bucks dropped their lead and gave the momentum to the Heat, yet were able to stay close and snatched the lead once more, and for good, late in the final stages of the game.

It was another predictable score sheet for Milwaukee. T.J. Ford racked up the assists, this time with a career high 15 dimes. Korver
shot magnificently, leading all scorers with 43 points. He took control of the last quarter, scoring two thirds of the Bucks total. He was closely followed by Michael Redd, who had 27 yet did not shoot as well.
Bogut and
Jefferson both scored in double figures, with the added advantage over the Miami forwards because of their ability to block the s*&t out of the ball. Gadzuric and Hunter both provided some spark from the bench, and with the off season rapidly approaching, these are two contracts that will be sought after by many teams looking for a centre or power forward who truly can block and rebound as well as anyone else.
Andrew Bogut managed another
double double, in spite of this; he turned the ball over 7 times, more than the entire Miami team combined.
Diaw, Batista and Gaines did not play many minutes. Diaw had 4 whilst the other two didn’t play in the close contest.
Ricky Davis had nearly as many minutes as a starter, yet only managed to contribute 9 points. A low point in the high stats he has been managing of late.

Early on in the game, blocking machine Alonzo Mourning
went down with a strain to his elbow, and many thought that this could only be a high point for Milwaukee. How wrong they were. Udonis Haslem took advantage of the extra minutes he was offered, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, half of which were offensive.
Gary Payton and Jason Williams both
took advantage of the smaller T.J. Ford, as so many have done this season, shooting over the top of him and managing to lay up past him, regardless of the blocking that was so prevalent in the paint. Payton had 18 points and 7 assists; Jason Williams racked up 19 points with 3 steals.
Steals were a high-point of Miami’s game, as the starters all had at least two steals each to their name, the team combining for 13 steals. This played a large role in Milwaukee’s 18 turnovers.
The veteran center, the most dominant in the league, Shaquille O’Neal, had 12 points and only 7 rebounds, and was outplayed by the rookie Andrew Bogut. He still was able to
slam it down over his opponents head the way he has become to accustomed to doing. Walker and Simien also both had good games.

Milwaukee continues at home for their next game against Dallas, a strong contender for the title in the Western Conference.

Dirk and Terry Take Game Away
Nowitzki had control of the first half, Jason Terry the second in Milwaukee’s first loss in an age.

The Mavericks lived up to their name, being the only team in eight games to beat Milwaukee. A huge, 23 point, final quarter from Jason Terry was enough to seize the lead permanently.
Dallas is shaping up to be a definite contender for the Western Conference champions, depending on their ability to beat the reigning champs, the Spurs.
This loss could turn out well for Milwaukee, however. It is always better to lose before the finals than during, and with wins in their upcoming regular season games, it will give them a fighting edge coming into the playoffs, following their spectacular post-All star season.

Andrew Bogut all but cemented in his Rookie of the Year award, scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds in the second half, as well as 4 blocks. He finished up with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks for the game, shooting over 72% from the field.
It was a game of two halves, New Jersey had the upper hand in the first half, yet was overtaken by the Bucks in the second, riding on the tidal wave that was Andrew Bogut.
One of the major highlights of the game was Jeff McInnis, shooting a three-pointer from half court on the buzzer ending the second quarter. He ended up with 15 points; his only three-pointer was from half court.

Kobe’s 24 not enough to beat the Bucks
Kobe had 24 points, 12 in a 40 point third quarter, but Milwaukee prevails.

Milwaukee
Points: Korver, 35
Rebounds: Hunter, 8
Assists: Davis, 10

LA Lakers
Points: Bryant, 24
Rebounds: Brown, 16
Assists: Parker, 7

Milwaukee’s bench helped their team to victory, Hunter had a team high 8 rebounds, and Ricky Davis had a team, and season high 10 assists, nearly recording his first double double for the season in the process. The Bucks 35-10 second quarter was enough to hold back the Lakers during their massive 40 points third quarter, as Milwaukee held onto their lead for a close victory to finish the season.
This win gives Milwaukee a record of 20-9, not only finishing first in their conference, but also tying for the best record in the league.
The Lakers put themselves out of playoff contention by losing their last four games, putting them two wins out of the playoffs.

With the playoffs soon approaching, the Bucks will be resting, as well as training hard, to become NBA champions.

Starters:

Andrew Bogut STATSHEET
A sure bet to win Rookie of the Year, the number 1 pick hailing from Australia is serving his team well. He received Rookie of the Month awards all five months (Milwaukee did not play in November) and finished with a league high 4 blocks per game. He finished 7th in the league for rebounds, collecting 7.7 a game, and also scored 11.5 ppg.
Not only did he start in the Rookie game, but he also made history by starting in the All-Star game in his first year in the NBA, and had 17 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 blocks. Could the shot-swatting Bogut be as good as players such as Jordan, Chamberlain and O’Neal? We can only wait and see…
Best game: Against New Orleans, he recorded a triple double with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Al Jefferson STATSHEET
He started the season playing at Boston, coming off the bench for limited minutes. Milwaukee’s GM saw huge potential in this young player, and was adamant in getting him to play for the Bucks. This move turned into one of the best trades of the year, as Jefferson averaged career figures of 7.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg and over 2 blocks per game, putting him third in the league for blocks per game. A shot blocking machine, not unlike Bogut, Gadzuric and Hunter, he was always there in the last line of defence for Milwaukee, and exploded in the paint in offence. He won MVP of the Rookie/Sophomore game.
Best game: Following the All-Star weekend, against Golden State he had 26 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists.

Kyle Korver
What a story this young man is. In his first two seasons he averaged under 12 ppg, yet in what is to be the trade of the century, Bobby Simmons went to Philadelphia with Jiri Welsch for Steven Hunter, and of course, Kyle Korver.
Korver not only had a career year, he lead the league in scoring, three point attempts and three pointers made, while shooting 42.8% from downtown. He had 9 games with 30 points or more, including two games with 50+ points, consecutively. After a slow start to the season, he scored 20 points or more in 16 games.
No doubt he was the key ingredient to Milwaukee’s game plan, involving mainly three point shots. He took over when Michael Redd lost his form, and continued to play extremely well throughout the season, also having the most minutes of any player in the team. Not only an MVP contender this season, he is also in the running for MIP.
Best game: A toss up between two, the 50+ point games; Phoenix: 54 points, 3 assists 1 rebounds, San Antonio: 52 points 2 assists 2 steals 4 rebounds

Michael Redd
At the start of the season, it appeared that Redd would be the saviour of this team, not Kyle Korver, yet during the season Redd hit a wall and lost his shot. His percentages took a radical drop from the previous season, as well as his points. This said, he was still an excellent player for Milwaukee, fitting their style of play to the letter. He was able to shoot from long range – whilst not as effectively as Korver – and able to drive into the lane or take the mid range shot.
Best game: Against Washington, 31 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebound.

T.J. Ford

The little man was run over in defence; every opposition point guard was able to run past him as will. Lucky for Ford, the shot blocking in the paint for the Bucks was so excellent that his lack-lustre defence was not a problem.
While his defence flat out sucked, Ford was instrumental in Milwaukee’s offence. He averaged a career high 8 assists a game, however took a dramatic drop in points. He scored under 3 points a game, but that was not why he was in the team. Not unhappy when he went scoreless, Ford was able to keep his assist-turnover ratio in check, dishing out 3.8 dimes for every turnover. With a little work on shooting and defence during the off season, this tiny wonder could become an MVP in years to come.
Best game: Against Charlotte, he dished 15 dimes to only 1 turnover. Only scored 2 points and 1 steal, though.

Bench Players:

Dan Gadzuric

After a season like this, and coming off the bench, no doubt teams seeking a center will be striving to sign this player onto their list. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and could be looking for a starting spot on another team, despite the fact he was second in the league in blocks per game. He also grabbed nearly 5 points and 5 rebounds per game, he is a strong contender for the 6th man award.
Best Game: 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks against Sacramento

Ricky Davis

A starter in almost any team, he was happy to come off the bench and receive limited minutes to play in a winning team. Unhappy at first with the trade to Milwaukee, he allowed himself to relax and enjoy winning, in the process racked up some great games for the team. Even though he didn’t start, his minutes at the end of the season were not unlike those of the starters for Milwaukee.
Best game: Against the Pacers Davis had 19 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds.

Steven Hunter
Involved in the trade that sent Korver to Milwaukee, Hunter also produced excellent stats coming off the bench in Milwaukee. He found his footing later on in the season, raising his scoring and rebounds, as well as his blocks per game.
Best game: Joining Ricky Davis in a good game against the pacers, Hunter had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists.

Eddie House
He only came to the Bucks just before the trade deadline, however he was able to provide much needed spark off the bench, resting Ford at the one guard.
His assists matched that of T.J. Ford in many games, yet was able to score more points and steal the ball more often than Ford, House obviously looking to start in seasons to come. With limited minutes in Phoenix, his season averages do not reflect his play in Milwaukee.
Best game: Against Washington he received Player of the Game honours with a stat line of 14 points, 8 assists and 5 steals.
