KNICKS TAKE A HEARTY GAMBLE ON CURRY

Today the New York Knicks announced that they would be sending Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney and a conditional 1st Round selection (in either 2006 or 2007) to the Chicago Bulls for Eddy Curry and Antonio Davis. As part of the deal, Eddy Curry was signed to a 6 year, $60 million deal.

Whilst on paper it looks like a great deal for the Knicks, the risk they are assuming is high. Not only have they taken on the potential future heart problems of Curry, but they have given him an uninsured, long-term deal. If Curry reaches anywhere near his potential then this deal is a major coup, otherwise it puts the franchise back another couple of seasons. Thomas and Sweetney were both due to come off the team's cap in the next year or two, but now that money is allocated to a long-term deal to Curry. The 1st Round pick is conditional and will be conferred to the Bulls either in the 2006 or 2007 draft year. The deal was a must for the Bulls who will open up more cap space in the next year or two to be spent elsewhere.

UPDATED DEPTH CHARTS

After their trade with the Bulls, the Knicks updated depth chart is as follows:

C- Eddy Curry/Jerome James/Antonio Davis
PF- Maurice Taylor/Malik Rose/Channing Frye/David Lee
SF- Quentin Richardson/Trevor Ariza
SG- Jamal Crawford/Allan Houston/Penny Hardaway
PG- Stephon Marbury/Nate Robinson/Jamison Brewer

NB: Starters will likely vary from these depth charts

X, Starbury at the 2!!!

Mon Oct 10, 2005 7:01 pm

Nbatv's number 1 play of the day if iam not mistaken :)

Tue Oct 11, 2005 7:48 am

PF- Maurice Taylor/Malik Rose/Channing Frye/David Lee

Mo Taylor over Frye and Lee? That's a definite no-no. :scold:

Tue Oct 11, 2005 8:45 am

Yeah man, good Luck. Go NY!!

Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:35 am

why not let big frye be infront of malik rose? i havent watched malik rose play much, so i dont know much about him, but i would let the rookie have enough minutes over a below average veteran.

nah, I'm actually using Starbury as a superstar playmaker....it appears Larry Brown has gotten into his head, but for how long?!? But Marbury is getting some time at the 2, depends on matchups and so on....

yep, I thought Brewer was a nice realistic signing....I didn't see that dunk unfortunately but like you and Jugs, I seem to gravitate towards him :?

Nice roster

he's my token guy waving his towel so I don't know how much time he will get....you better hope for injuries or trades to get him on the floor more

that depth chart was before I was playing....Mo Taylor has yet to see one minute of PT through 3 games....and he is behind Frye in depth charts at the moment....as for Lee, he's a fav of mine, but I have him on the IR training up his D....

he is ahead of him....Malik Rose is on the IR now

my updated roster lineup is available on the 2nd post of page 1 of this thread....at the moment I am rolling with a starting lineup of curry, davis, q, crawford and marbury....I am starting Antonio Davis because I needed some more rebounding in my starting lineup....damn, I could really use JYD right about now

I'm still learning the game and it's intracacies, and the makeup of the Knicks' team and how to best utilise each player....it will take time and experimentation....I might also look at clearing the logjam at PF....it's not an easy roster to deal with in a "realistic" way, but I'll give it my best shot

I know that you want to start Davis at PF but the Knicks frontcourt starters is a bit weak on defence, there are no shot blocker. So I would suggest you start James at C, and Curry at PF. James can both rebound and block shot. What do you think?

Here is my thought. Start Frye and Curry. Move Richardson to Sg.

Then, try to work out a deal for Josh Smith involving Crawford. You will obviously have to involve Nate Robinson and/or Ariza and/or Lee.

After i think you would look great.

A lineup of:
C- Frye
PF- Curry
SF- Smith
SG- Richardson
PG- Marbury

is sick and Josh Smith provides the blocking ability needed.

I don't really want to start Davis, but you're right....we are a bit weak at the moment....we are deep but lack punch....Eddy's playing great at the mo thanks to Live's easy inside game in '06 :( I tried James and Curry together but it didn't work as both are poor rebounders....

not looking at drastic changes yet....JC's playing great and seems to be a great sim player....getting like 30 per game at the mo although that will come down a lot....

will discuss this more as season and monthly recaps starting hitting this thread....

Good thing trading for Curry... Keep up the good work, X!!! (Y) 8-)

Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:24 pm

Ye your probably gonna stick to the original roster then make trades during the season. No need to make a unrealestic trade jus yet. Good work man, hopefully Curry can help you guys alot.

yep, will see how it goes....I wouldn't mind getting a 1st Round pick back....maybe I'll try and give Bulls back Davis and more for my 1st Rounder back....nah....who knows....definitely some work to do though....slowly but surely I guess....

glad someone picked up on that pun

as for dynasty, yep it's underway bug-free, I'm 4 games through the season....another 3 to go in November and I'll do my recap for November....

that was my opening night roster....although I've been changing it up....for my next game I am trying a James, Curry, Hardaway, Crawford and Marbury starting lineup....I've also run with a Curry, Davis, Q, Crawford and Marbury lineup....I just need to find a lineup that is strong on the boards as Detroit killed me by about 20 odd rebounds in my last game....
