Lakers Lose Another in Tight Match
Bryant shakes off arm injury, Lakers fail to close gap

ABOVE: Lamar Odom (7) covered up for
Kobe in the third quarter

18 Oct, Seattle – The Los Angeles Lakers were on the very edge of winning their first game, right up until Kobe Bryant got injured on a hard foul. With the Lakers up by 5 entering the second half, Bryant collided with Ray Allen and went straight to the change rooms for the entire third period.

By the time Bryant returned, it was too late. The Sonics took the chance to outscore LA by 12 points and take a slim lead into the final period. And even Bryant’s spectacular 20 point fourth quarter couldn’t dig his team out of their hole. Bryant finished on a modest 29 points and 6 rebounds as he shot high percentages. Lamar Odom picked up Bryant’s slack as he tried to keep LA in the game with 9 third quarter points. Odom had 27 points and 7 assists but committed 6 turnovers, mainly due to his teammates not looking out for his fast passes.

“Sometimes it’s a pain without Kobe on the court because the other guys aren’t experienced enough to expect those quick passes I make,” Odom noted, “If a man is open, I’ll throw it to them and I always expect them to see.” Aaron Mckie had his best game for the Lakers, playing well in the first half as he racked up 9 points, 4 assists and 2 steals and Kwame Brown grabbed 16 boards.

Ray Allen led the Sonics with 23 points, 7 assists and 2 steals. Seattle’s captain was flanked by Rashard Lewis’ 25 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists and Luke Ridnour’s surprising output of 24 points and 7 assists. “Luke (Ridnour) was great tonight. He dished and drove in and scored well,” Allen said of his teammate, “I can tell that he’s been working over the off-season.”

The Sonics began the game on top and cruised to the end of the first quarter before Odom and Mckie led a Lakers 12-0 run in the second period. Mckie made several flashy passes into Brown who converted most of the time whilst Odom played brilliant defense on Ridnour who was held scoreless for the quarter. However, due to Bryant’s injury, Odom was prevented from defending the point guard spot and moved back to matching up against Lewis.

The Lakers’ defense once again failed them as Seattle repeatedly drove into the paint and found themselves open for the open bucket. “It was better game tonight but we still ahd too many errors,” Phil Jackson said after the game. Kobe Bryant left the arena for the team bus smiling to reporters, “Tommorrow night, we will win.”

Notes

The Lakers play the second leg of the home and away exhibition matches at STAPLES tomorrow night… SG Kobe Bryant has been cleared from injury… F Slava Medvedenko has been taken off the IR list and will replace SF Laron Profit… Preseason Record: 0-4 (0-2, 0-2)…

getting better there....you should be ready to step up to Superstar soon

I'd like to see Lamar and Kobe create for guys like Jumaine Jones who should be a nice impact guy off the bench....I'm also looking forward to a breakout season from Laron Profit :P and see how Von Wafer does in Lakers' colours

Mon Sep 26, 2005 10:59 pm

awww, tough loss again sit....... anyway it's still pre-season...... cant wait for the season to start.....

Tue Sep 27, 2005 12:46 am

man, you can't seem to even buy a win.

Tue Sep 27, 2005 7:53 am

Sit have you tried using a smaller line up of
C: Brown
PF: Odom
SF: George
SG: Kobe
PG:McKie
or start Vujacic n put Mckie instead of George so u can have a faster team and can get some easy baskets off of fast breaks

- Jumaine is better than I expected. He can hit the open jumper for me and is dependable on the open court. I will use him more! hmmm.. Laron Profit may be cut soon in case you wanna know and quoting GM Sit, "Von Wafer and Andrew bynum need to prove to me they deserve playing time."

Brad Pitt wrote:awww, tough loss again sit....... anyway it's still pre-season...... cant wait for the season to start.....

- Man, I am busy for the next 6 weeks at least.. so the season will start after school is done... but theres still a few preseason games to do and I will release the magazine once its done! So Brad Feet... is that your real name?

MORE KANYE!!!!
Your obsessed my friend! Obsessed!

To bad on the 24-26 turnovers between Kobe and Odom.

As someone had already suggested get Barbosa! he IS your guy. Hes tyronn lue on speed, with a better jump shot, height and can play D. not to mention will develop into a great player, and can play the 2, which means you dont need a KB8 back up.

anyway, im now gonna read page 3! damn 56k. i have to post on each page, because i forget. :(

EDIT: ok, done reading page3. that odom screen at the start of the seattle recap, is fucking awesome. nice work. the team is picking up, should see some more wins now man. good luck, and think about barbosa!

Tue Sep 27, 2005 9:53 pm

Looks like you put on a good show in Seattle and using McKie at PG is looking pretty good too. Nice mag and I'll be wiating on the season.

Tue Sep 27, 2005 10:05 pm

Damn another loss. Stop turning the ball over for christ sakes. You're playing very well except in that area. Oh well, I hope you're still adjusting your sliders.

Nice magazine too. I can't really think of anything to say because it's in the morning and I'm half awake, so yeah.

Tue Sep 27, 2005 10:38 pm

love the cover, so kanye's on Kobe's posterized list now? love it, good job.

Tue Sep 27, 2005 11:44 pm

If Barbosa is part of the suns future, they would of played him more!
live 06 suns will sign someone anyway, and nash allways puts up MVP numbers on the games, so he wouldnt get PT anway. give them a big man or a shooter and its all good.

Thu Sep 29, 2005 7:51 am

He's just there for the future... after Nashy is too old... They will use him!

But we will see my options.. wats the Suns'depth chart at SG and PG?

Thu Sep 29, 2005 2:20 pm

Good luck with this one Will (Y)
You Know how I "LOVE" the Lakers
