Perkins undergoes successful surgery; Will not return until at least February
Kendrick Perkins injures his leg during Game 6 of the 2010 NBA Finals.
The Celtics organization announced on Monday that Kendrick Perkins has undergone successful surgery on his MCL and PCL ligaments. Perkins tore these ligaments against the Los Angeles Lakers during Game 6 of the 2010 NBA Finals. Perkins suggested that his recovery would take around 5-6 months, which would have him coming back around February. His place in the starting lineup will be replaced by Shaquille O'Neal, who was signed earlier in the week.
The Celtics signed O'Neal under the veteran minimum for 2 years. Under the veteran minimum, Shaq will be entitled to 1.14M for both years on his contract. The Celtics had also signed veteran forward/center Jermaine O'Neal for the mid-level exception. The Celtics hope that the acquisition of these two veterans will fill the void in their center position and allow Perkins to make a safe recovery.

Celtic rookies Avery Bradley and Luke Harangody given contracts
New Celtic guard Avery Bradley and forward Luke Harangody showing their jerseys to press
According to sources, the Boston Celtics have just signed rookie guard Avery Bradley and rookie forward Luke Harangody have just been signed. Avery Bradley, chosen with the 19th pick in the draft, was touted as the best on-ball defender in his rookie class by both scouts and coach Doc Rivers. Rivers himself claims "He’s an NBA defender right now. He can play point guard defense on anybody in the league and that’s huge for us".
Bradley was not seen at summer league this year because of surgery and will make his first debut in training camp.
2nd rounder Luke Harangody also earned himself a contract after having a fantastic summer league debut. Harangody averaged 16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, while also shooting 50% from three and 77% from the free throw line.

Celtics win home opener against Nuggets despite Rondo injury
Ray Allen had an impressive shooting night, shooting 50% from 3. | Semih Erdin dominated garbage time with 6 points in 2 minutes.
Despite losing Rajon Rondo to an injury during the first few minutes of the first quarter, the Celtics comfortably defeated the Nuggets in their home opener. Nate Robinson stepped up for the Celtics and put up 20 points and 6 assists in his place. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce combined for 41 points for the entire game, and were part of the second quarter run that eventually put the Celtics in the lead for good. The Big Shamrock proved to the NBA that he could still be dominant by putting up an impressive 12 points and 6 rebounds. His aggressiveness quickly got Nuggets center Nene and backup center Chris Anderson into deep foul trouble, further thinning out their options. The Nuggets did manage to cut the lead by 5 during the 3rd quarter under the sharpshooting of Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith, but the Celtics once again pulled away.
When asked about his reaction to the Rondo injury, Celtic coach Doc Rivers had this to say: "Well, we're just glad that this happened this early in the season rather than playoff time. As long as Nate keeps putting up the numbers he did tonight, we can give Rondo as much rest as he needs."
"We need to be healthy come playoff time. Health is always an issue when you have a group of veterans like ours."
We also asked him about the severity of the injury, but he didn't have much to say.
"All I know at this point is that he injured his elbow. We're going to let our trainer take a look at him the next few days and then we can give an estimate on his returning time."

Rondo will be out for 3 weeks with sprained finger
It's been confirmed that Rajon Rondo will not be playing for the next 3 weeks due to a sprained finger. He received this injury during the Celtics season opener versus the Denver Nuggets in the first few minutes of the 1st quarter.
"We thought it was his elbow at first. It looked swollen pretty bad when we were helping him to the bench. Turns out his elbow is fine and that it's his finger instead" said Doc Rivers in an interview during practice.
"Rondo's a warrior. He should recover just fine. We'll just have to start Nate in the meantime."
It's also been confirmed that rookie guard Avery Bradley has been activated and will be ready to play in their next game against the Wizards if needed.

Celtics win nail-biter in Washington thanks to Nate's 28 points.
Ray Allen had another great game with 19 points and 5 assists.| Gilbert was unstoppable, easily scoring 36 points over Ray Allen.
The Celtics survived the second half push by Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards to win their second game of the season. Arenas put on a show tonight as he put up 36 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Kirk Heinrich and Josh Howard also had great scoring nights but the Celtics lock-down defense eventually took its toll. Nate Robinson had yet another impressive scoring night as he put up 28 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
Ray Allen had a similar stat sheet to his Denver game with 19 points and 5 assists. Kevin Garnett, Shaquille O'Neal, and Jermaine O'Neal were absolute forces down low and kept most of the Wizards in check. Avery Bradley played his first minutes of his NBA career tonight, but didn't get much playing time.

Ray Allen buzzer beater carries Celtics to 3-0 record
Paul Pierce and Ray Allen led the Celtics in the 4th quarter with a flurry of clutch shots | Bayless suffered a knee injury in the 2nd quarter and would not return to the game.
It was at the end of the fourth. The score was 105-101 and the Celtics were down by four. Paul Pierce drained a clutch three with only 10 seconds left on the clock and Nate Robinson immediately intentionally fouled Andre Miller. Miller could only make 1 of the 2 free throws, leaving the score at 106-104 with only two seconds on the clock. Paul Pierce quickly inbound the ball to Ray Allen in the right corner. The home crowd exploded as the ball touched the net right as the quarter ended.
"I was surprised at how much room they gave me. They didn't manage to get a hand in my face until I released the shot." said Ray Allen during an interview after the game.
Coach Nate McMillan was furious with his players after the game was over.
"I was disappointed. We should have won that game. At the very least, we should have got a hand in his face. That's just fundamental basketball."
The entire starting lineup of the Celtics had an impressive scoring night, with no player having less than 15 points. Shaq and Kevin Garnett proved that they were still defensive anchors with their combined 11 blocks and 19 rebounds. Greg Oden and Luke Aldridge did a fantastic job at preventing Celtic penetration. Their defense combined with Roy's explosiveness proved to be effective against even the Celtics tough defense.
Ray Allen's thoughts on the Blazers defense: "The Blazers played us tougher than any team has this season. They forced us to take more jump shots than we're used to taking and thankfully our shots were falling tonight. "
