TEAM ANALYSIS: Phoenix Suns

Last year, nobody thought the Suns would be in playoffs, however they bet all the odds and reached the Western Conference Finals before losing to the eventual champios Los Angeles Lakers. Just a cinderella story or they have something real?

The Good: Chemistry

Coach Alvin Gentry decided to use again the Happy-Speedy Freeball pace and the Suns became "The Suns". But what he had changed? His approach to the players is very different, he's more a teacher than a coach, and that is reflected in the game where everybody can play, and I'm saying the entire bench. He gave opportunities to everybody and it was a success. Dragic is showing that he can carry Steve Nash torch in some future, Dudley became a factor, Admunson hustle intimidated and Frye's deadeye raised eyebrows.

The Bad: Amar'e departure

Amar'e signed a $100M, 5 year contract with the Knicks. He was a force in Phoenix and now the Suns must replace his presence. They added Hakim Warrick, Turkoglu and Childress to fill the void... But it is still enough?.
Another point is that Steve Nash will be 36, but he show's no signs of slowing down.

The Big Question: Hedo Turkoglu

In Orlando, he reached the NBA Finals being The Man. In Toronto he was just horrible. The Suns bet in the Turkish Michael Jordan... Do they traded for the Orlando's one or the Toronto's?. Time will tell

• The Suns are betting high with Turkoglu.
• They lost Amar'e but they still don't have a big presence inside beside Robin Lopez.
• Nash's health will be crucial for another big run.
• They need to sign a big guy who can rebound a defend.
• They still have a strong bench, big reason from last season's run.

At the American Airlines Center.. A few days before training camp...

A basketball bouncing is the only sound in the place.. Coach Gentry appears and he watches Steve Nash dribbling and shooting 3 pointers...

- Swiiiiiiishh...
- I can do it with my eyes closed
- Hey! How's going on coach? I didn't know you were here
- Well.. I came here because I'm planning the camp, I can't wait anymore, why you're here Steve? You still have some days for rest
- I'm bored.. And I wanted to take some shots.. I don't wanna lose the stroke. I called Grant to come by, he's on the way
- So.. how are you Steve?
- Me?.. fine.. my back is healthy, I just need to run a bit more in tr...
- No no.. - Gentry interrupts. - I'm asking about the elimination
- Well... For a moment i believed that we could do it, that we were going to beat LA... I'm sad... I want to play a final... I want to feel it!
- I know..... Trust me.. We will reach the final... We have a good team
- Yes.. But when we have a competitive team, it is messed up! It happened in 2005, when Q was traded, JJ asked to leave to Atlanta.. Then Amare went down for the year... Now after a great season Amare leaves!. We can't win a fucking championship if we can't keep a core for more than an year! We couldn't even keep D'Antoni at that time... We can't win that way Coach!
- You are right... but we must look forward, we have a great team now, we are strong and last season we shut a lot of people...

Steve sank another shot... While Alvin was looking for the rebound....

- Coach
- Yes Steve
- It's me... Or there is a rare smell in the air?
- ...... Yeah... i seems like...
- SMOKE!?!?

AA CENTER CAUGHT BY FIRE WITH NASH AND COACH GENTRY INSIDE

Yesterday, the American Airlines Center, the home of our Phoenix Suns was caught by an inside started fire while captain Steve Nash and Coach Alvin Gentry were inside the building. Luckily both of them escaped early as well other employees.

The fire started about at 4:30 pm, near the locker room. Nobody was there so the fire is believed to be accidental.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and beat the fire an hour later. The building was well damaged so it's likely that the Suns could play in another city for at least one season until the Stadium is repaired.
Comissioner Stern wasn't available for comments, but he said that the NBA will help the Suns in this situation. A temporarly relocation is possible. Seattle, Las Vegas are possibilities.
Robert Saver, The Suns' owner, didn't answer the calls.

What do you mean they can't go to the playoffs? Steve Nash and J-Rich are still beasts. They didn't die in the fire!

SUNS RELOCATE TO HAWAII FOR NEXT SEASON

NBA comissioner David Stern announced that the Phoenix Suns will play te upcoming season in Hawaii. This announcement caught by surprise to the Seattle fans because they were the frontrunners for the Suns. Once again, Seattle is left empty.
Also it was said that the American Airlines Center will be repaired with the help of the NBA, and they hope it will be finished by next year.

Team owner, Robert Saver announced before everybody started with the questions, that the Suns will only play ONE season in Hawaii, and that they will not be relocating to anywhere.

"The Phoenix Suns are the Phoenix Suns, not Las Vegas Suns or Seattle Suns, we will stay here for long time. Hawaii will help us with this problem and we are very grateful. But remember, where are not moving ANYWHERE"

When he was asked about the team name and the jersey that they will use in this upcoming season, he answered that they will use the common Suns jersey, and that they will keep The Phoenix Suns name... but he said that Hawaii Suns is a cool name.

A TIMEOUT WITH: STEVE NASH

Steve Nash, 2 time MVP of the NBA and current Suns player, took a timeout with Suns.com

Suns.com: Hi Steve, well, this is the first interview you give after the fire.. How are you?
Nash: I'm fine, i was a bit scared in the moment becuase I was with Alvin taking some shots, but it happened so fast that I just realized what happened when I was at home
Suns.com: What's going on through your head right now?
Nash: I have a lot of emotions, a bit sad beacuse we lose our homecourt, our fans won't see us playing, but in a way I'm happy because I love to prove doubters that they're wrong, they think we can't repeat last season campaign now that Amar'e is gone. And i think that Hawaii will make us feel like home.
Suns.com: How do you rate your team, now with Amar'e gone but with Warrick, Turkoglu and Childress in the fold, along with the rookies?
Nash: Amar'e was very important in the team, without him it was impossible to reach the Western Finals.. But we must look ahead, We have Robin (Lopez) who is developing fast, Frye who is a deadeye shooter, as is Jared (Dudley) and Goran (Dragic). J-Rich and Grant (Hill) are poised for another big run. The new additions give us deep, which is very dangerous, as our bench showed in the playoffs. Here everybody can play.
Suns.com: Did you talked with Amar'e?
Nash: Yes, I called him and i wished him the best, he is a beast and now is his turn to carry a team. We are rivals now but offcourt we are friends. That won't change now that he left for New York.
Suns.com: Talking about Hawaii... What are you specting for next season?
Nash: The Hawaii Suns.. sound cool! I will think that I'm in permanent holiday! That will be funny... But we will take it seriously, it's a challenge but we're going to make it through.
Suns.com: Any message for the Suns fans?
Nash: Keep and eye on the Beach Boys!

NEWS AND RUMOURS AROUND THE NBA WORLD

Suns Trading Jason Richardson?

Rumours are telling that the Suns are exploring trades involving shooting guard Jason Richardson. Richardson, coming from a great year where he shot almost 50% from the field and 47% from deep in playoffs, has a two years left and $28M in his contract. The Suns are looking for a power forward or a center. Sources say that they asked about Nene from the Nuggets and Andris Biedrins from the Warriors.

Lakers preparing package for Nash?

The Suns confirmed the offer. The Lakers offered Ron Artest and Luke Walton for All Star point guard Steve Nash but they rejected the offer at the same moment.
"Steve is the face of the franchise, he won't be traded for anybody" Said Alvin Gentry, Suns Coach.

Shaq is hanging up after the season?

The Big Shamrock, who recently signed a two year contract with the Boston Celtics, said that this can be his final year of his career.

Grant Hill want to return to Suns after this season

Grant Hill said in a radio station that he is very happy in Phoenix and that he want's to return after this season, when his two year contract finishes.

Iverson and T-Mac to start the season unemployed

With the start of the season a few weeks ahead, Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady remains unsigned. Both were past all-stars and scoring champions, but both are well past his prime. If they want to be picked up by a team, they might accept a smaller role, and very likely to come off bench

Phoenix to sign Adam Morrison

Adam Morrison, the 3rd overall pick back in 2006 by the Bobcats, who struggled at the beginning of his NBA carrer with a torn ACL, will sign a 3 year contract worth $4M with a team option for a 4th year with the Phoenix Suns. The 'Stache, will backup Jason Richardson and Grant Hill, and will compete with Jared Dudley, Earl Clark and the recently signed Josh Childress.

SUNS TRADES RECENTLY ADQUIRED TURKOGLU, SIGNS C BROWN

The Phoenix Suns announced today that they traded SF Hedo Turkoglu to Golden State for C Andris Biedrins.

It's a rare move because they adquired the Turkish in a trade with Toronto two months ago, the Suns staff didn't want to explain why they traded him, the rumour was that SG Jason Richardson was in the trading block, but now with Turkoglu gone, it seems that Richardon will stay as a sun

The 24 year old Biedrins brings rebounding and a defensive presence to the Suns, who were lacking that since Amar'e left to New York. He averaged 5.0 points and 7.8 rebounds in just 24 minutes last season, but only played in 33 games due to groin surgery

Turkoglu, 30, averaged 11 points with 4 assists and 4.6 rebounds last season for Toronto. He struggled in Toronto after great years in Orlando where here reached the NBA Finals in 2009

In another move, the Suns signed C Kwame Brown to 1 year, $1M contract as an insurance for Biedrins

SUNS PULL THE TRIGGER AGAIN, ADD MIKE MILLER AND SIGNS MORRISON

The Suns are taking the NBA by surprise by trading his second offseason addition by sending Josh Childress to Miami in exchange for Mike Miller.

The Suns were interested in the 30 year old shooter but he decided to sign in Miami taking less money to win a championship. They asked the HEAT about Miller and they pulled the trigger.

Miller is a great addition to the Suns, who recieves a deep threat at a low cost. He will likely start in the bench but will log a lot of minutes like Channing Frye, creating a great du off the powerfull Suns bench.

In Miami, they recieve a great piece to join LeBron, Wade and Bosh. Childress doesn't need to shoot a lot and he is a reliable defender. A great trade bit both sides.

In another move today, the Suns officially signed Adam Morrison to a 4 year contract. Morrison will wear number 35

I liked Biedrins, he's a great presence in the paint and shoots well inside, when I asked him for Hedo they wanted also Hakim Warrick, but I said no, an hour later I tried again and they said yes in a 1 for 1 man trade

I know i ripped the HEAT  , I wanted a shooter from the bench, and Childress isn't a great one, so he was on his way out

I was willing to trade J-Rich but I decided to let Hedo go because he is two years younger and he has 2 years more contract and Hedo has 4 more... Hill and Dudley can replace his minutes, and now with Miller in the fold, Turkoglu is easily replaced
