Rewriting History of 04 : Pistons, 6-0: Warriors next

Postby Yougi on Wed Jan 17, 2007 5:27 pm

I decided to do a 04 dynasty in which I'd change the results of the 2003 summer. So I made FA sign with other teams, I undid the trades and did some other. Hope you guys will like them. I'll write the summer as it happened in my dynasty, and then post the DC for every team.

DRAFT DAY:

Pistons send draft rights to Darko Milicic and Popeye Jones to Atlanta, Hawks send Nazr Mohammed to Phoenix and the 21st pick of the 2003 draft (Boris Diaw) to Detroit, Suns send 17th pick of the 2003 draft (Zarko Cabarkapa) to Pistons

Pistons send Chucky Atkins to San Antonio for draft rights to Leandrinho Barbosa

The Pistons get 3 first round rookies from what is called by most the best draft class in the history of basketball.

OFF-SEASON

Clippers re-sign 3/5 on first day

Lamar Odom, Michael Olowokandi and Andre Miller all came to term with the Clippers. Corey Maggette and Elton Brand are still on the market.

Karl Malone now a Sixer

After the departure of best friend John Stockton, Karl Malone thought his best hope to win a ring was to sign with Allen Iverson’s 76ers.

Spurs lost Duncan

After getting his second ring alongside David Robinson, who retired straight after, Tim Duncan decided not to re-sign in San Antonio. “My time here is over. I’m looking for a new opportunity for myself, for the club, for the city, and for my family.” Signs point to him going to Utah after they lost on re-signing the Mailman, or to Indiana, which will probably lose either Brad Miller or Jermaine O’neal to Free Agency.

Detroit keep Hamilton, Barry, bring in Mutombo

On the first day, the Pistons spent their whole flexibility on keeping guards Rip Hamilton and Jon Barry, and on bringing former All-Star Dikembe Mutombo. Mutombo, along with new teammate Ben Wallace, are the only player to win more than two Defensive Player of the Year award.

Brand-Brad the new Duncan-David

After superstar Tim Duncan made it known he’d sign elsewhere, and David Robinson’s retirement, the San Antonio Spurs got two new big men to recreate the Twin Towers. Brad Miller, formerly of the Indiana Pacers, and Elton Brand, formerly of the Los Angeles Clippers, are the Spurs’ new Towers.
Miller reportedly received an offer from the Sacramento Kings too, but the thought of replacing the Admiral was too appealing. Brand got offers from the Sixers (before they signed Malone), the Jazz (before they signed Duncan), and the Hawks. Finally, Texas offered the best contract, plus the most hopes to contend for the title.

Horry, Jackson, Pippen, Skinner, Johnson staying home

Despite numerous offers from other teams, Robert Horry (Lakers), Scottie Pippen (Blazers), Jim Jackson (Kings), Brian Skinner (76ers) and Dermarr Johnson (Raptors) decided to re-sign with their own teams.

Duncan replacing Malone

After receiving enormous offers from the Clippers, Pacers, Bucks and Heat, Tim Duncan finally agreed to wear a Jazz jersey from now on. Since Karl Malone signed with the 76ers, Tim Duncan will replace the Mailman both as Utah’s franchise player and power forward.

Jason Kidd leaving New Jersey to California

Jason Kidd accepted today an offer from the Golden State Warriors. The perennial All-Star point guard’s signing makes it sure Gilbert Arenas will have a new home in the upcoming days.

Sonics’ new look

On the same day, the Seattle Supersonics signed center Alonzo Mourning and forward Walter McCarty, and then traded their superstar Ray Allen to Louisiana, along with center Jerome James, for guards Corey Alexander and Baron Davis. The Sonics’ new acquisitions are probably going to start, except for Alexander, alongside Rashard Lewis and Brent Barry.

Hornets happy about acquisition

Getting a player of Ray Allen’s caliber is always helpful for a basketball team. You get a sure 22 points per, on 50% shooting, who will lead your team, with or without the ball, who will open the court with his range, and who is willing to take the last second game winner. And just in case he misses time with injury, the Hornets signed guards Rod Strickland and Antonio Daniels, who are both expected to be the primary back-ups at the 1 and 2, respectively.

Pacers replace one Miller, re-sign the other

With Brad Miller’s departure for Texas, the Indiana Pacers felt a new opportunity to move Jermaine O’neal to the center position, and signed power forward Juwan Horward accordingly. Despite it is not sure if Jerm will stay, the Pacers remain optimistic, despite numerous offers, from New York, New Jersey, Washington, Atlanta, Boston and Denver. The NBA’s all-time leader in anything three pointer related, Reggie Miller, decided to sign a contract that will probably link him with Indiana for the remainder of his career.

Jet landing in Denver

Former Atlanta Hawk Jason “the Jet” Terry signed today with the Denver Nuggets, after reported offers from Phoenix, Chicago, Portland and Toronto. He is the first of what is expected to be a whole lot, since the Nuggets, after finishing dead last last year, are now up with almost half of their cap space unused, and a whole lot of gaps to fill. Denver’s coach is unsure about what position Terry will play, saying it depends on what other players land in Colorado.

Recent moves creates question marks

With Jason Kidd, probably the world’s best playmaker, moving from New Jersey to Golden State, with Elton Brand landing in San Antonio, and Baron Davis’ trade to Seattle, Mourning’s signing with that team, and Terry’s deal in Colorado, and with names such as Gilbert Arenas, Jermaine O’neal, Corey Maggette, Gary Payton and Stephen Jackson still on the market, most of them without a spot on their former team anymore, and with Denver, Utah and Atlanta’s impressive cap room, a few questions come to mind; who will take Kidd’s place in Brooklyne? (Arenas is said to lead Payton) Will Wesley really be the starting one in New Orleans? (Payton is said to join Ray Allen there, the guy for who he was traded) Who will take Brand’s place? (As weird as it sounds, Clippers’ GM said he was uninterested in Jermaine) Who will lead the Hawks with Jet gone? (I heard former Heat Mike James, who lost his job to Wade) So many questions, so few answers…

Ricky Davis will not wear a Cavs jersey next year

It is said that with LeBron James’ arrival in Cleveland, the Cavaliers are looking to ship Ricky Davis out for a point guard, and maybe a little depth up-front. With the current point guard situation around the league (most of the Ricky Davis’ level ones being free agents), only Minnesota (with Cassell) and possibly Dallas (with Nash or Van Exel), Portland (with Derek Anderson) or Sacramento (with Bibby) are possible suitors.

New York’s GM had a busy day

With their questionable budget, the New York Knicks are probably one of the worst team to have a GM job. IT was proven today, as the Knicks signed forward LaPhonso Ellis, before trading forward Othella Harrington to Indiana for forward Jeff Foster, and then center Kurt Thomas to Milwaukee for forward Tim Thomas. Their GM then called the end of Knicks activity until the season…

Atlanta complete starting five

Atlanta’s GM today announced the signature of two new Hawks players, who will complete the starting five already constituted of Robinson, Ratliff and Abdur-Rahim. Those two players are guards James Posey and Gilbert Arenas.

Houston gets Maggette, Francis might be out

The Houston Rockets today signed Corey Maggette to an offer sheet Los Angeles’ GM said he would not match. With guards Steve Francis and sophomore Yao Ming in the middle, there might not be enough balls, making Francis the odd man out. Phoenix and Washington are both said to be in the talks with Houston for him.

New Jersey replaced Kidd

The New Jersey Nets found someone to lead the break in Brooklyne, and even found him a back-up. Gary Payton and Darrell Armstrong, probably the two top lead guards on the market, were acquired by the Nets this afternoon. Gary Payton, who played with power forward Shawn Kemp in Seattle, forming the greatest 1-4 combo of all time, outside of Salt Lake City, said he couldn’t wait to play with Kenyon Martin, his now teammate, and, hopefully, the next Kemp.

Toronto fix point guard problems

The Toronto Raptors today announced a trade that brought Derek Anderson north of the border, in exchange of fan favorite Jerome Williams, and back up point guard Lindsey Hunter.

Denver makes number of moves

With the big holes in their rosters, and no deal yet done, the Denver Nuggets did not wait for an answer from power forward Jermaine O’neal to make moves. The Nuggets signed Stephen Jackson, Jelani McCoy, Smush Parker, Shawn Kemp and Kenny Andersen to contracts. Their GM said while he still hopes Jermaine will go with them, he tried to make sure his team was still competitive without him.

Thomas won’t bench behind Malone

“I got what, like 3 to 4 years before falling to sub-starting material? I sure won’t spend them playing 10 a game. As much as I respect Malone, as much as I liked the city of Philadelphia, I’d like to play an active role for at least a season or two.” Those were Kenny Thomas’ words when he announced publicly he won’t re-sign with the 76ers. The interested parties are probably limited to Miami, Washington and Toronto.

Strickland, Rasho Celtics

The Boston Celtics announced today the contracts accepted by Rasho Nesterovic and Erick Strickland. The newest C’s already are in Boston, and will start practice tomorrow. Both are expected to be in the battle for starting positions.

Jermaine finally choose Wizards

Of a high numbers of high level players on the market this summer, Jermaine O’neal was the last to make a choice, and his choice landed on the Washington Wizards. The chance to play alongside Kwame Brown, who reminds him so much of himself, and one of his favorite, Jerry Stackhouse, finally made Jermaine decide to head to Washington.

With Rasho gone, Wolves get Campbell

Former Supersonics center Elden Campbell, who lost his starting place to Alonzo Mourning, decided it would be best for him to fill the gap left by Nesterovic’s departure to Boston, and signed a deal with Minnesota. It is one of the first experienced player KG will have along him in the post since he got to his All-Star level.

Cleveland gets rid of Ricky, sign Alston

The Cleveland Cavaliers today announced the trade of swingman Ricky Davis, alongside guard Dajuan Wagner, to Indiana for forwards Ron Artest and Austin Croshere. Ron Artest is hoped to complement LeBron James’ game, and to help him develop while not having to handle the opponent’s best scorer. The Cavs also signed point guard Rafer Alston, who will probably be handed out the starting position.

@ anubisak: thanks a whole lot man! Happy to see more readers!:)

I hope the quality is still good, with all the pain from my teeth withdrawal, can't really think straight, plus I've been on painkillers for the whole day... Hope it's still good!

End of summer tomorrow (or sunday), with a recap (rosters for each team, in case you got lost) plus first game of the season (and maybe second).

I'm using Live 04, and that for five reasons:

-The 03-04 season is when I started following addictively the NBA
-I love it
-I wanted to start before the 04 summer, since it was one of the busiest as of late
-I own it
-It's the latest one that works with my shitty graph card:)

Interesting dynasty. One thing: It seems like if you were the Pistons, the one thing most people would do to change Detroit's off season would be to draft Wade, Carmelo or Bosh.

Looking forward to more. Anything less than a championship will be a disappointment..

Well, that was my first thought also, but here was my thinking:

Since 03 had the deepest draft class of the recent past, and since I absolutely love to play with Cabarkapa, I felt the urge to trade my pick. First thought was to draft Wade and trade him; second was to draft Melo, and frankly, Bosh is as good in 04 as Darko (I tweaked a few rookies up, and a few other players for that matter), so I did not feel the urge of doing it. Then I told myself that if I drafted someone else than Darko,NY would probably draft Josh Howard instead of Michael Sweetney, and bla bla bla... so really, I decided not to change the order of the draft.

And I hope not to get a championship. My policy has always been, and remains, that if I win a championship, I change team for the one with the lowest record (or lowest overall talent). But thanks for reading, I hope I can get started for real!

Phoenix traded Joe for Bobby

In a much lopsided deal, the Phoenix Suns yesterday traded swingman Joe Johnson to Sacramento for former 6th man of the year Bobby Jackson. Reports said the Kings were exhausted of Bobby’s injury history, and felt Joe Johnson could bring a whole lot more to their team. The Suns though, are sure that they got the better end of the trade.

Sorry guys, I already played the first 4-6 games, so the recaps will be real… short. I’m really sorry, I got pissed with writing without playing (the transactions were finalized in the plane, after coming back from a trip to Florida two weeks ago, so I had to type them all up and put them in an order as to make a logic history).

Memphis vs Detroit

Final score: Memphis 119, Detroit 92

>Grizzlies shot 56,2% from the field, Pistons only 39,6%
>Pistons got stolen 11 times, while Grizzlies got stolen only 5 times

>6 Grizzlies scored in double-digit

TRADE WATCH

In honor of the Superbowl finalists

A trade happened today between the Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers. The 2-4 Bulls were seemingly displeased by the play of both Marcus Fizer as the starting 3, and Donyell Marshall as the first forward off the bench. For both reasons, Donyell Marshall got traded to Indiana for Al Harrington and Dajuan Wagner. Indiana accepted the trade because of the injury problems starting center Jonathan Bender was enduring, giving Yell a chance to start along Juwan Howard, and because of attitude problems from Dajuan Wagner.

Later that day, Chicago sent rookie Kirk Hinrich and guard Voshon Lenard to Golden State for Eddie House and Eric Dampier. Today being the first day where you can trade players signed this summer, the trade was possible. Chicago got a very decent back-up center to Eddy Curry, which they were lacking so far, and sent 2 guards of their guard stacked roster away. The Warriors got a good, talented student for Kidd, and a guy with really long range. Getting rid and Dampier also allows the Warriors to play an up tempo game more suited to Kidd’s play, with a starting 5 of Kidd and Richardson at guard, Jamison and Dunleavy at forward, and Murphy at center.

Pistons Recap

PG: Chauncey Billups (67) / Lendrinho Barbosa (53)
SG: Rip Hamilton (67) / Jon Barry (60) / Tayshaun Prince (51)
SF: Boris Diaw (61) / Corliss Williamson (61)
PF : Clifford Robinson (67) / Zarko Cabarkapa (51) / Mehmet Okur (58)
C: Ben Wallace (75) / Dikembe Mutombo (62)

Chauncey Billups, while experiencing problems at the beginning of the year, since exploded with two 30 points game, averaging 23.8 points and 6.3 assists in the last 4 games, against 15.5 and 3 in the first two.
Leandrinho Barbosa has experienced a lot of trouble. He’s not really capable of leading an offense, his jumper is suspect at best, and his defense is under average, but the guy’s speed can really destroy a defense. If this guy develops better court vision, or a jumper, he’s either the next Kidd or the next AI.

Rip Hamilton is the most consistent player on the squad, scoring over 20 in 4 of 6 games (plus 19 in New York and 15 and Memphis), as well as being a top notch defender and passer.
Jon Barry is fitting so well in his role, and stats won’t give him his due. Barry is the one leading the 2nd team, with Barbosa’s incapacity of doing it. He is also the team’s best shooter, and right now, he’s looking like its leader on the court.
Tayshaun Prince played very limited minutes, and he seems lost in the new system. His defense is even becoming questionable.

Boris Diaw is definitely not a scorer, I bet he won’t reach double digit before the All Star break, but this guy is a 5-5 threat every night. The most underrated player on this squad, with a deadly mid range jumper off the dribble that he doesn’t use enough.
Corliss Williamson is really inconsistent so far. He had some serious impressive game (10 points, 3 steals in 4 minutes vs Cleveland), and then disappears in the next one (no points, boards, assists, steals or blocks in 8 minutes vs Chicago)

Clifford Robinson is probably one of the best players on the squad. The guy has 2 double-doubles so far, 3 20 points game and 5 multiple blocks game. He’s averaging 9 boards per, 3 blocks per and 3 assist when scoring under 20 points. If this guy can’t find the net, he’ll help you in other ways.
Zarko Cabarkapa is a wild card. He can play under the basket, and on the perimeter, on O or on D, this guy can do it all. If ever someone gets injured up front, he’s getting the nod to start. He’s the one to replace Robinson in the future.
Mehmet Okur seems doomed to leave. Just as Prince, he can’t seem to fit in the new system implanted by the rookie coach.

Ben Wallace is himself; he blocks shot, steals passes, gets boards, but do not scores. He showed signs of a good post passer though, helping his team offensively.
Dikembe Mutombo is also a surprise; he’s playing like in his prime days, getting boards, denying shots, and even passing out of the double team. He might even start a few games, when Ben is going to be outmatched by a Shaq or a Yao.

Today's game: at 4-1 Portland Trailblazers

Today, two of the best and most surprising teams in the league are head-to-head as the Portland Blazers face the Detroit Pistons. While not being crucial, the game is probably going to be very interesting.

Portland:

PG: Damon Stoudamire (63) / Lindsey Hunter (59)
SG: Scottie Pippen (70) / Travis Outlaw (52) / Qyntel Woods (51)
SF: Bonzi Wells (72) / Ruben Patterson (60) / Scot Padgett (60)
PF: Rasheed Wallace (81) / Jerome Williams (61)
C: Dale Davis (60) / Zach Randolph (57)

Average 88.2 points on O (27th in the NBA), for 80.2 on D (best in the league)

Best player: Bonzi Wells is scorching hot as of late, scoring 20.8 and dishing out 4 per

PS: For your info, Detroit is 2nd in Offense (to Sacramento) and 8th in Defense.

Pistons can't survive Sheed's explosion

Final Score: Portland 103, Detroit 84

What was supposed to be an entertaining game between two of the league's best team finished a blowout. The Detroit Pistons were unable to overcome 27 points from Portland's Rasheed Wallace, even though their own Wallace played one of his finest game.

Game plan was simple; Detroit wanted the game to go up-tempo, and wanted Billups to drive and dish if they had to play an half-court set, while Portland wanted to use every second on the shot clock on every possession and play tough D.

Until 1:03 left in the first, Detroit was dominating, with the score 21-14. Rip had 9 points, including two impressive jams, and Boris Diaw already collected 6 assists. Then, Portland went on a 7-0 run to close the gap, 5 of those points from point guard Lindsey Hunter, while Clifford Robinson tried to keep his team in the game, going 2-12 in the first quarter.

From then on, nothing was good. The Pistons' last lead 1:16 into the second quarter. Sheed scored 10 of his 27 in the second, and 10 other in the 3rd, ensuring the win. The Pistons shot 15/52 in the first half, and were outrebounded 31-19.

Player of the Game (decision by commentator): Rasheed Wallace
Piston of the Game (decision by coach): Ben Wallace
6th Player of the Game (decision by writer): Lindsey Hunter
Supersub of the Game (Pistons only, decision by coach): Leandrho Barbosa
Rookie of the Game (decision by writer): Boris Diaw

Players Stats:

Portland:

Davis had 9 boards and 2 blocks in 18 minutes
Hunter got 17 (7 in the first) to go with 3 steals and as many dimes, in 15
Pippen collected 9 points, 7 boards and 4 assists in 17 minutes
Stoudamire had 17 points, 6 boards and 8 assists
Wallace scored 27 on 11-16, had 14 boards and 3 blocks
Wells scored 16 on 7-12, but had only 2 assists
Williams had 7 points and 3 assists
Woods had 4 points, 4 assists and 3 boards in 11 minutes

Detroit:

Barbosa had 8 on 4-7, in 10 minutes
Barry was scoreless in 11 minutes, but had 3 steals and 2 dimes
Billups scored 15 on 4-14 and had only 3 assists
Cabarkapa was 3-14 for 11, with 5 boards and 2 blocks, in 9 minutes
Diaw had 5 points on 2-8, with 6 boards, 2 blocks and 7 assists
Hamilton scored 18 on 8-14, with 3 dimes and 2 blocks
Mutombo had 3 points on 3-4 FT, with only a boards and two blocks
Robinson had 12 on 6-22, but had 8 boards, 4 steals and as many dimes
Wallace scored 12 on 6-7, with 7 boards (5 offensive), 9 blocks and a steal

Rumour has it...

By this time of the year, a lot of trade speculation creates a few rumours. We tried to catch a few ones and let you know of what is happening behind the curtains, but first, let's view the market a bit;

Atlanta is said to be looking for a back-up big other than Darko, and is reportedly OK with unloading one of three back-up points (Dickau, Davis and Vaughn)

Cleveland are reportedly looking for a way to get someone of value for Carlos Boozer

Detroit is sais to be looking for opportunities to get rid of sophomores Prince and Okur, and vets Curry and Williamson

Houston might ravivate the Francis trade rumours

Philadelphia are said to be looking to get players more suited to their new style of play then Snow and McKie

Phoenix are looking to keep Penny and Gugliotta, who combine for almost half of their cap space, and whose contracts will come off the books this summer. Call it the run for Kobe!

Both Washington's Hughes and Stackhouse are said to be unsatisfied by the 1-10 record the Wizards are having so far

Rumours around the leagues seems to have solutions for all those problems;

-Atlanta trade Dickau, 1st rounder to New York for Sweetney
Unlikely, since New York is looking for a center, not a point

-Cleveland trade Boozer to Philadelphia for Snow
Cleveland would benifit a lot, but they'd be without a 4, and I'm not quite sure Boozer and Malone can survive on the same ball club

-Washington trade Hughes, Stackhouse and either Dixon or Haywood, to Phoenix for Marbury and Jackson
Possible... Would change the scenario in both 1-10 Washington and 2-5 Phoenix, plus would allow rookies Hayes and Blake to take turns at the two, and Marbury would probably give that much needed scoring outside of Jermaine

-Detroit trade Okur, Williamson to Sacramento for Pollard, Wallace
Would help Sacramento, but Pollard would not get minutes behind Cliff, Ben, Zarko and Deke. Plus, Williamson can probably bring more to Detroit

-Houston trade Francis, Mobley to Phoenix for Marion, Hardaway and Brown
Even though the thought of a Francis/Marbury backcourt turns me on, I don't think it's enough for Phoenix to give up both Penny's expiring contract and the Matrix.

-New York trade Houston, Thomas and two top-3 protected first rounder to Houston for Francis
From my opinion, this is an offer Houston will have to keep in mind. If ever you can't get a superstar for Francis, better get two high picks and a potential filled 6-10 swingman.

That was all the time we had, but more is coming in tomorrow's edition!

Today's game: vs 8-3 Nets

Tonight's game features the Detroit Pistons and the New Jersey Nets. While both of them are interesting teams, they are coming in there with different ideas; New Jersey would like their win streak to grow up to 4, and are hyped up, their last 2 being 20 points win against competitive teams, while Detroit is coming off a deceiving, to say the least, performance in Portland. Now, let's see New Jersey's line-up for tonight.

New Jersey:
PG: Gary Payton (81) / Darrell Armstrong (63)
SG: Kerry Kittles (65) / Tomar Slay (49) / Bobby Armstrong (40)
SF: Richard Jefferson (67) / Zoran Planicic (47)
PF: Rodney Rogers (63) / Dan Brown (43)
C: Kenyon Martin (74) / Aaron Williams (53) / Jason Collins (46)

Average 92.8 ppg (16th) on offense and 89.1 ppg (5th) on defense

Best player: none really, but the big three of Kenyon Martin (16.6ppg, 10rpg), Richard Jefferson (15ppg (on 50.8%), 7.5rpg) and Gary Payton (15.7ppg, 7.9apg, 2.4spg) is one of the best in the league, plus, every starter is averaging over 2.5 dimes per.

PS: For your info, Detroit is 6th in Offense with 100.1 and 12th in Defense, with 93.7.[/i]

Detroit's comeback ain't enough

Final Score: New Jersey 97, Detroit 89

Motown out-rebounded, shot better and had more blocks than New Jersey, yet still came out on the wrong side of the contest. The reason? Let's call it stealmania.

With Chauncey Billups so nervous about competing against Payton, and the game so close Barry and Barbosa always had to try and get the momentum, that the Pistons would give away serious steals, and even send a few passes out of bounds.

At the beginning, everything seemed easy for the Nets. They scored the first 10 points on 5 lay-ups or dunks. Then Payton missed on a trey, with the tip-in missed by Rodgers. But then Martin gets the board, pitches it out, for a jumper by Kittles: miss. Wallace passed it out, Diaw couldn't score on the short jumper, nor Hamilton on the 2nd chance J. Kittles had the board, tried to go for the coast-to-coast, but... Hamilton fouled Kittles hard on his way to the net. Kittles missed both, but did put it back in himself. And only then could the Pistons score their first; Cliff on a dunk on the break. 12-2 Nets.

In the second, while the Pistons were coming back into the game, three straight possessions were stopped by passes to wide open players being dropped out of bounds, which is plain pathetic. Halftime rang just as Aaron Williams knocks a fade away jumper from the elbow, with Wallace and Diaw on him... as pathetic. Score at halftime was 50-41 NJ, and even though Detroit did never lead by more than one, the lead never went to more than 5 until 34 seconds were left.

Even though Rip and Chauncey were hungry for a win in the 3rd, and brought the score back to 74-71 at the end of the period, it wasn't enough, as the Nets toyed with them during the whole fourth, getting a well deserved win.

Piston of the Game (decision by coach): Ben Wallace
6th Player of the Game (decision by writer): Darrell Armstrong
Supersub of the Game (Pistons only, decision by coach): Jon Barry
Rookie of the Game (decision by writer): Boris Diaw

Players Stats:

New Jersey:

Armstrong scored 10 on 4-6 in 9 minutes
Jefferson had 15 on 6-13
Kittles had 16 on 5-16 (0-5 from 3), but had 4 steals
Martin got 10 on 4-9, with 6 boards and as many steals
Payton had 13 on 5-15, with 9 assists
Rodgers had 16 on 6-7 (2-2 from 3), with 5 boards (3 on O) and 4 steals
Slay collects 7 points (3-4), 3 boards and 2 steals in 12

Detroit:

Barbosa finished with 4 points, an assists and a steal, in 10 minutes
Barry had 6 on 2-3, with 2 steals and 3 assists, in 10 minutes
Billups had 22 on 10-15, with 6 boards, 3 steals and 2 assists
Cabarkapa had 7 points (on 3-11), with 4 boards, a block and a steal, in 11 minutes
Diaw had 3 points, 8 boards, a block and 2 steals
Hamilton scored 17 on 8-18 (0-3 from 3), with 2 steals
Mutombo scored 6, had 6 boards and 2 blocks
Robinson scored 16 (on 6-16), had 3 boards and 2 blocks, and was assistless
Wallace scored 8, had 17 boards (8 in first quarter), 8 blocks and 5 dimes

Bright side? Two plays in the first showed the improvement of two Pistons' rookies:

Barbosa sent a lob to Zarko, who is blocked agressively by Collins; Mutombo got it back, gave it to Zarko, who burned Collins for an easy two.

Barbosa, on the break, burned by Kittles, then spinned Jefferson to his butt, and scored on a relentless dunk

The Sacramento Kings today sent Hedo Turkoglu to Atlanta for Dan Dickau. Turkoglu is hoped to play the 4 spot for the Hawks, letting Milicic play at the center position, while Dickau will be the main point off the Kings bench.

Five-team deal:

Dallas send Nick Van Exel to New Orleans, Marquis Daniels to Washington; New Orleans send Jamal Magloire and George Lynch to Philadelphia, David Wesley to Orlando; Orlando send Drew Gooden to New Orleans, Shammond Williams and Jeryl Sasser to Philadelphia; Philadelphia send Eric Snow and Aaron McKie to Dallas, Derrick Coleman to Orlando; Washington sends Brendan Haywood to New Orleans.

New DC's:

ATLANTA HAWKS :

PG : Gilbert Arenas (72) / Jacques Vaughn (49) / Emanuel Davis (48)
SG: James Posey (65) / Terell Hansen (49)
SF: Glenn Robinson (69) / Lee Nailon (51)
PF: Shareef Abdur-Rahim (74) / Hedo Turkoglu (51) / Alen Henderson (48)
C: Theo Ratliff (63) / Darko Milicic (62)

Getting Turkoglu is great, as it gives the Hawks anothe rbig body with range to open the floor, plus a back-up to SAR. Anyways, with 4 PGs, Atlanta would have unloaded one a day or another.

DALLAS MAVERICKS :
PG: Steve Nash (78) / Eric Snow (66)
SG: Michael Finley (82) / Aaron McKie (61) / Tariq Abdul-Wahad (47)
SF: Josh Howard (61) / Bryon Russell (60) / Eduardo Najera (51)
PF: Dirk Nowitzki (84) / Gary Trent (56)
C: Raef LaFrentz (65) / Shawn Bradley (59)

Not such a change, but an upgrade of the scond unit, plus Snow will stay at the end of the season, possibly unlike Nash and Van Exel would have done.

NEW ORLEANS HORNETS :
PG: Nick Van Exel (69) / Rod Strickland (58) / Bobby Drew (51)
SG: Ray Allen (83) / Antonio Daniels (56)
SF: Jamal Mashburn (73) / Stacey Augmon (49)
PF: Drew Gooden (66) / Robert Traylor (60) / David West (50)
C: Brendan Haywood (55) / Jerome James (52)

By getting rid of Wesley, and by getting Gooden, then Hornets hope to get pieces that will allow Allen to bring his scoring back in the mid 20's, as right now, it is under 20.

ORLANDO MAGIC :
PG: David Wesley (65) / Speedy Claxton (54)
SG: Tracy McGrady (92) / Keith Bogans (51)
SF: Grant Hill (66) / Gordan Giricek (59) / Reece Gaines (48)
PF: Pat Garrity (56) / Andrew DeClerq (52)
C: Derrick Coleman (64) / Steven Hunter (54) / Zaza Pachulia (47)

A lot of changes for Orlando might mean a few wins, and making T-Mac happy. Priceless.

PHILADELPHIA 76ers :
PG: Allen Iverson (90) / Shammond Williams (59)
SG: George Lynch (62) / Jeryl Sasser (53)
SF: Keith Van Horn (66) / Maurice Williams (53) / Greg Buckner (51)
PF: Karl Malone (72) / Brian Skinner (56)
C: Jamal Magloire (63) / Samuel Dalembert (54) / Todd MacCulloch (51)

Iverson wanted to play the point since Malone came in town, to let him play in the pick and roll offense he is used to. Magloire gives the Sixers a young big man for the future, who will learn from Malone (or so we hope), while Lynch gives them a defensive stopper who will clean the glass. The also get a much needed back-up point.

SACRAMENTO KINGS :
PG: Mike Bibby (67) / Dan Dickau (50)
SG: Doug Christie (66) / Joe Johnson (62) / Anthony Peeler (52)
SF: Peja Stojakovic (73) / Jim Jackson (61) / Gerald Wallace (57)
PF: Chris Webber (86) / Tony Massenburg (50)
C: Vlade Divac (67) / Scot Pollard (58)

The acquisition of Dickau might seem minor, but it allows Joe Johnson to play his natural 2, instead of having to man the point guard duties behind Bibby.

WASHINGON WIZARDS :
PG: Larry Hughes (64) / Juan Dixon (55) / Chris Whitney (54)
SG: Jerry Stackhouse (78) / Steve Blake (52)
SF: Marquis Daniels (54) / Jared Jeffries (52) / Jarvis Hayes (52)
PF: Jermaine O’neal (85) / Christian Laettner (57)
C: Kwame Brown (64) / Etan Thomas (54)

While only minor changes were made, Daniels is already a way more potent scorer then Haywood will ever be. Plus, the guy's a rookie.

Rumour has it... pt.2

Cleveland’s main summer acquisition, Ron Artest, might be shopped some place else before he completes his first season with the team. Same thing for Alston.

Denver is said to be open for offers for anyone not named Anthony or Terry on the roster. Nene and Camby are the most targetted players.

Milwaukee has been looking around for places to shop Desmond Mason. The swingman is actually averaging only 10.1 ppg, good for 5th on the team. According to rumours, Joe Smith might have to follow him.

Phoenix’ point guards, all-star Stephon Marbury and summer acquisition Bobby Jackson, are both reportedly asking for trades from the Suns, even hough it haven't reached the medias yet. The team would be willing to trade them if they can get good assets.

Seattle’s Radmanovic is said to be looking for some new place to call home. Brent Barry and Rashard Lewis are other players that could change team to help the team’s record.

Washington would not make a surprise if it made a few moves before the deadline. The Wizards, with an abyssmal 1-11 record, are looking for ways to get a high level scorer for Hughes and Stackhouse, and it is said that they could include Juan Dixon in a deal. It is unknown though if they are open to offers about their rookies, Steve Blake and Jarvis Hayes.

Right now, I'm looking to make a few changes in the near future... I'm looking to get rid of Tayshaun Prince, Mehmet Okur, Michael Curry and Corliss Williamson. I think it can get me a few good role players. Here are the players I target, from the most interesting to the less interesting.

-Damon Jones (53, PG-SG), of the Los Angeles Lakers (2.0-1.5-1.4-0.5-0.5, 23.5FG%, 10.5mpg) is a tremendous shooter, who could help late in the game or in stretches were Barry ain't finding the net.

-Gerald Wallace (57, SF), of the Sacramento Kings (1.3-1.5-0.2-0.1-0.1, 26.3FG% in 9.1mpg) has some exceptionnal potential, and will be huge in a few years if he receives enough minutes. He's just a pain in the ass if you lack shooters though!

-Samuel Dalembert (54, C), of the Philadelphia 76ers (3.3-5.2-1.2-1.0-0.2, 64.3%, 16.8mpg) has so much potential you can't believe it. Awesome rebounder and shotblocker pays off for his raw offensive game. A few practices with Dikembe and Ben can't hurt I guess.

-Vladimir Radmanovic (58, SF-PF), of the Seattle Supersonics (6.5-3.3-1.2-0.3-0.3, 43.8FG% in 17.8mpg) has great range, and can split up the floor. In fact, just the fact he got range makes me think it's a good idea to get him.

-Loren Woods (52, PF-C), of the Miami Heat (1.1-1.2-0.4-0.1-0.1, 44.4FG%, in 4.5mpg) has some decent upsides, and do not need a lot of minutes to be effective.

If ever you guys have some more ideas, about players I might spot or trades I should have other teams make (or myself for that matter), or any comment (this place is getting dead...) please post about it!

Today's game: vs 2-6 Rockets

Today's game features the Detroit Pistons, who are visited by the Houston Rockets. Both team are coming off multiple losses in a row, and each team is looking to put an end to his.

HOUSTON ROCKETS :
PG: Steve Francis (87) / Moochie Norris (55) / Mike Wilks (46)
SG: Cutino Mobley (69) / Adrian Griffin (51)
SF: Corey Maggette (73) / Bostjan Nachbar (46)
PF: Eddie Griffin (66) / Mo Taylor (57)
C: Yao Ming (75) / Kelvin Cato (57) / John Aemechi (46)

Average 88.9 ppg (27th) on offense and 94.1 (27th) on defense

Best player: A very threatful three headed monster is constituted of Francis (17.8ppg, 8.2rpg, 5.1 apg), Yao (17.5ppg, 9.0rpg, 2apg, 1.63bpg) and Maggette (17.0ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.6apg). No other Rocket is scoring in double digit.

PS: For your info, Detroit is 7th in Offense with 98.8 and 14th in Defense, with 94.1.[/i]

Rockets surprise Detroit; Francis prove rumors wrong

It was supposed to be an easy win for Detroit's poor record. What happened, nobody saw coming.

Houston never trailed, clinching a 104-91 victory, despite being heavily outrebounded (51-36). The main differences? Houston got to the line 30 times (without missing a single one), and shot better (47.3% to 38.9%).

The first half in itself wasn't in any way good to watch. The Pistons just kept on fumbling, helping the Rockets lead 49-37 at halftime. Seomthing happened during halftime though, since when they came back, Ben Wallace dominated the paint, which was Yao's place since tip-off. Of course, that fueled his teammates, cutting the deficit to as little as 3, but never getting the lead. Obviously, the 7-6 phenom got Wallace away from his place, and helped Houston get the score to 70-58.

In the last one, the Pistons tried to outrun the other team, but they were unable to do so with enough effectiveness to come back and win it.

I think that was an awesome play: Barbosa beating two defender on a single crossover!

I never did it before, and I think it ROCKS!

Think it was a good jam, wanted to show it... I wish I could do movies.

Just a picture I absolutely loved.
