X's NBA2k6 Story [Pseudo Update *17/7/06*]

X's NBA2k6 Story

I got the game a couple of weeks ago for my XBox 360 & have been very impressed. I have decided to start an Association & am keen to get into the thick of things. Whilst this isn't my usual NBA Live dynasty, it is what it is. Sometimes I'll show more pics, sometimes I won't. Sometimes there'll be more updates, sometimes there won't. I'll continue doing it whilst it remains fun. Hopefully I'll keep this one rolling until NBA2k7 comes out but we'll see how it goes. Like always, I like to keep a record of my dynasty to keep a track of what is going on. Hopefully a couple of you might enjoy it. Any questions or queries, please fire away.

SETTINGS:

Season Length: 29 Games
NO Preseason Games
Trade Deadline ON
Owner Firings ON
CPU Trades ON
Play-off Format: 3-3-3-3 (I was tempted to go 3-5-5-5 but went with best of 3)

SUPERSTAR Difficulty
Sim Quarter Length: 12 minutes
Sliders: My Own (will adjust as time goes on to promote realism)

THE MAN IN THE HOTSEAT

Image
As per usual, Watson hadn't ironed his shirt, so his swish suit saved the day

After injuries & inconsistent play cut short his playing career in Europe, Andrew Watson looked ahead towards the challenges that would face him off the court. Watson couldn't have been happier as in only 2 short years he had earnt himself a front office position for Italian giant Benetton Treviso. With his contact expiring in 2005, he looked to re-up with the team that had given him an opportunity to not only play the game, but be involved with it after he was done. Unfortunately Benetton's owner didn't want to pay Watson his market value & still considered him a bit of an intern, at the ripe young age of 24. Since he didn't have many other options, Watson was going to accept his measly offer until an unexpected call came through from his agent.

Hornets' owner Ryan Lantz, a renowned tight arse around NBA circles, was shopping for a new GM, a cheap one at that. Offering well below NBA market value, Lantz could not find any takers. So he looked towards Europe & had heard a little about a former kid, a good kid, business saavy at such a young age was going to re-sign with Treviso. Lantz thought that he could finally run the team as he wanted, using young Watson as a puppet for him to run the team as he wanted it run.

Watson hung up the phone from his agent, he had just accepted his dream role. He had always dreamed about being an NBA GM, he just never thought it was possible. Whilst the money was low for the importance of the role, it was still well above what Benetton was offering. Sure there were doubts whether the Hornets' situation was a good one, considering Hurricane Katrina & all, but this was too good an opportunity to pass up. As he dozed off, he had left a notepad on his bedside table with some illegible scribble reading:

    Year 1 Goals:
    1. Bring in personnel to support coach Byron Scott & develop young talents like draftee Chris Paul & up-and-comers like David West.
    2. Look to add more talent, at the right price of course.
    6. Spend the team's money wisely & keep that tyrant owner off my back.
    4. Surprise the league & all my doubters.

THE TEAM & OWNER

Image
The team that Watson inherits is a joke & it's owner might not be willing to spend the $$$'s required to bring this team back into prominence

THE COACHING STAFF

Image
Scott is secured for another 2 years at a relatively cheap price, so he'll likely get given some leeway, especially considering the roster he's working with

Image
In the last year of his contract, Carter is solid, but not the sort of teacher that these young Hornets require, nor the strategist that Scott probably needs behind him

Image
Forrest has a big year of travel ahead of him. He probably needs some help though as an elite NBA team needs top class scouting. Anything less wil just not do

Image
Keep P.J.'s old legs together & everyone will be happy

Sorry for pic quality....will try to improve if possible  That's all for the updates today, I'm going to get into the Association right now....will post team's roster & other info in coming days....

enjoy

Is that an LCD screen? and I take it that it's a 360 association? Good luck (Y). Oh and keep J.R for a few years, boy can he grow to be a superstar. I traded him off to Orlando in my dynasty and after 3 years he's an all star

yep will do, especially with Chris Paul & David West....they are underrated, especially West, so I want to bring them to where they're at by season's end, or somewhat closer....

can you tell me what effect practices have? is it just for game-by-game stat increases?

THE MAN IN THE HOTSEAT

Image
Watson is staunch in his approach that the building blocks must first be put in place before building an empire

OPENING DAY SIGNINGS FOR HORNETS

GM Watson didn't wow anyone with his first couple of signings in his new role. He signed veteran bigman Elden Campbell, who is back for another stint with the Hornets, and forward Ansu Sesay. Both were signed to 1 year deals at league minimum. Campbell is expected to bring in some veteran leadership for some of the younger players. Let's see if he can last the season though. Sesay was brought into shore up the forward spots. Sesay is a bit of a tweener but is rangey enough to possibly give the team some effective minutes every now & then. Still it's nothing to write home about for Watson.

HORNETS ADD DEPTH TO THEIR SCOUTING DEPARTMENT

In what is probably his biggest move to date, GM Watson signed Julius Davenport to a 5 year deal at $1M per year. Davenport is a former NBA starter from the mid-80s & since leaving the league has done a variety of consultancy work for various teams, but never committed himself to one franchise. With the money Watson waved infront of him, Davenport could not turn down such a lucrative offer. Davenport is considered a Master scout amongst his peers as he regularly finds diamonds in the rough & is not afraid to burst a few bubbles to get his job done.

GM Watson also signed another scout in Salvadore Terry to a 1 year deal at $350k per year. Watson has been previously linked to Terry when he played in Italy, & has now taken that relationship with him to the NBA. Terry has a solid feel of the European game & how it translates to the NBA, so his experience in international scouting should be invaluable.

With these two signings, Watson has filled out the Hornets' staff. If anything can be taken from these signings, it's that Watson strongly believes that the NBA Draft is an important tool in building a team. Information on prospects means power, and Watson will take any advantage that he can get over his opponent.

------

That's all for today....I'll head back off to try & finish the month of November....also, updated roster lineup at top of page

enjoy

Nice stuff, good signings with your scouts, get the Big Gun plus an international specialist.

I like the Sesay signing, i'm a fan of forwards that can play both positions. Campbell (you've got him as Elden Williams in your roster) on the other hand I possibly wouldnt have signed, although im a fan of using small ball line-ups and dont mind being a bit undermanned in the Big Bodies department

BTW your Fighting Irish Watch hasnt been upadted in a while...

Fighting Irish haven't played a game for 3 weeks due to byes & State of Origins....we got a game tonight & may have one or two new players who can play a little bit so that should help....Irish Update should be updated in next couple of days....

as for the changes, that scout isn't actually an international specialist, there ain't really specialist for different regions like Live....just different grades (Master, Good, Average, Poor)....just had to weave him into the story

I also like having combo forwards & before I signed Sesay, the team didn't really have any....I also tend to go smaller, having someone like David West....Campbell is solid in limited minutes....

btw, more roster movement in the future  gotta luv the Trading Block....makes trading so much easier & less painstaking :P

I guess this means that you won't be updating your Blazers dynasty anymore.

Oh well, I hope J.R. Smith is staying although realistically I think he's being shopped around.

I foresee an All-Star appearance by Chris Paul as well.

The Xbox 360 Version's menus look better than the Xbox version's. 2K6 is pretty fun, and good luck with this Association. I'll be reading it. I just started one of my own.Still, you should at least complete the playoffs in your Blazers Live Dynasty.

can't see Paul cracking All-Star in his 1st year, but we'll see....

as for J.R. Smith, he's with the team now....it's really a tough call whether to move him or not....at the moment he's not on the trading block....

as for my Blazers' dynasty, I still have the intention of going back to it in some shape or form....a wrap-up type thing....

yeah, the menus are sweet & easy to navigate through quickly....

will probably finish out playoffs in Blazers' dynasty & change ownership & sim out rest....
