CAN THE BOBCATS BREAK THROUGH THIS SEASON?

Associated Press-Charlotte,NC., November 2, 2005 - The Charlotte Bobcats enetered the NBA last year as the league's newest expansion team. They suffered a fough season last year ending up with the 5th and 13th Picks of the NBA Draft in New York, but their winds may be changing to a new revolution in Charlotte. With the addition of Raymond Felton and Sean May from last year's UNC Championship Team, was one of the best things that Bobcats could have done.
"It is one of the best things that we could have done! Taking two teamates from UNC that played together in the Championship Game and won it all. I can smell success in the air!" said Bobcats Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff. Also joining the Bobcats was Alan Anderson from Michigan State who led them to the Final Four before losing to Illinois. The Bobcats looked loaded at every spot on the floor. Here is our summary of each player on the roster:

Brevin Knight G 5' 10"
The main question about Brevin is....Can he co-exist with Raymond Felton? New School meets Old School. Look for a little rivalry for minutes here. Brevin Knight has been on of the best in the NBA at dishing the ball averaging over 9 assists per game last year. If he can keep getting his teamates involved, Charlotte will do very well this year.

Image

Raymond Felton G 6'1"
Great all around Point Guard with a awesome jump shot. Great passing ability and very quick. Look for him to push it up in the open court. Comming off a National Championship Year with UNC along with UNC teamate, Sean May, look for him to be dumping the ball into the post to Sean May along with dialing it up from long distance.

Image

Gerald Wallace F 6' 7"
This guy has mad ups! He will throw it down in your face. He usually does not like to drive it in alot but look for him this year to be averaging over 15 PPG. He is a crazy dunker and is one of the Best Dunker in the NBA. His major weakness is his outside shooting. Doesn't have much of a outside game but get him within 15 feet of the bucket and from there in it is money for him.

Image

Emeka Okafor F/C 6' 10"
If he plays like he did when him and Ben Gordon won it all in the NCAA Championship a few years ago, Watch Out! The only disadvantage....No Ben Gordon. He has got the size along with the skill, but the real question is.....Can he stay healthy with his back along with being a good Free Throw Shooter.

Image

Primoz Brezec C 7' 1"
The Bobcats only real true Center that has the body and skills for this. He is still a little young, but he is developing into one of the best Big Men in the league.

Image

The Bobcats Bench
One of the weakest benches in the NBA. Dont expect very big production out of the bench. Most of the bench is still developing their game and still trying to make the transition from college to the NBA and they have been in the league for what about 3 to 4 years? They need better players!

ImageBOBCATS SEND KEVIN BURLESON TO FAYETTEVILLE OF THE D-LEAGUE AND RELEASE KAREEM RUSH

Image Image

Bernie Bickerstaff announced today that the Bobcats are sending Kevin Burleson to the NBDL's Fayetteville Patriots. "We want him to develop into a good Point Guard for our team, so we sent him there to give him playing time and a chance to mature. The step from the college level to the NBA is big for some players and for Kevin, it was a huge step, but he has handled the pressure well and I am looking for him to be part of the future for this team." commented Bernie after the Press Conference

Also, the Bobcats released Shooting Guard Kareem Rush today also. "He just was not producing for this organization. He is a good ball player, but there has been alot of times when he has not had a shot and forced the ball up the court which caused us to turn over the ball more. It is a great move for the Franchise, but we also wish Kareem the best," added Bickerstaff.

Now that the Bobcats have a few open spots on their roster, they could make some strong moves and try to improve their bench. Here are some possible targets for the Bobcats:

Amir Johnson 6'9" PF

Great athletic and leaping ability. Short stint with the Pistons, but has sown that he can get up and down the court very well and could be a key to the Bobcats bench. This kid, if given the right training, could end up as one of the league's Best Ever Power Fowards.

You can't really, just a storyline thing I presume.

And all you folks saying he'll be 41-41, etc.... he's playing a 29 game season, as noted in his very first post. Reading comprehension FTW

BOBCATS STUN BUCKS ON OPENING NIGHT AT CHARLOTTE ARENA

CHARLOTTE 90, MILWAUKEE 70

Image

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) -- The Bobcats with help from Emeka Okafor and rookie, Raymond Felton helped overcome Michael and the Bucks in a 90-70 decision. NBA Rookie, Raymond Felton had a career high of 22 points and 12 of them coming in the final quarter.

"They did a great job of defending us in the first three quarters of the game, but we overpowered them in the final minutes of the game. This win really shows that we can be a tangible and possible make the playoffs this year." said Head Coach and GM Bernie Bickerstaff.

In the 1st Quarter, the Bucks came out shooting over 60% from the field. Michael Redd scored 10 of his 12 in the 1st. AT the end of the 1st Quarter, the Bucks had a slim lead, 27-25 dispite Milwaukee's hot shooting.

But it wa a different story in the 2nd Quarter. Emake Okafor and Gerald Wallace combined for 30 points in the 2nd Quarter. The Bobcats held the Bucks to only 14 points in the 2nd Quarter leading to a 61-41 Bobcats lead at half.

The Bobcats kept up their dominance on their way to a 90-70 win over the Bucks in their season opener. Emeka Okafor lead the attack with 18 points and 9 rebounds followed up by Gerald Wallace's 16 points. The Bucks were lead by Mo Williams with 20 points while helped by Bobby Simmons 17 points.

There was a scare for both teams early in the 3rd Quarter. Brevin Knight drove into the lane and collided knee to knee with Michael Redd. They both hobbled off the court. Brevin Knight did not return to action for the Bobcats while Michael Redd returned, but did not inpact the scoring for the Bucks. Brevin Knight will have to miss a few games, but Michael Redd is placed under Day-To-Day.

On Thursday, the Charolotte Bobcats announced the signing of Lonny Baxter who had recently been released by the Houston Rockets. While with the Houston Rockets, he averaged 3.6 PPG and 12.2 MPG. He can provide short stints off the bench and provide quick scoring. He could also light it up from deep if given the light of day. He will wear the number 35 for the Bobcats

SINCE THE SEASON OPENER, BOBCATS LOSE 7 OF 9

CHARLOTTE, NC - Ever since Charlotte's Opening Night win against the Milwaukee Bucks, they have dropped 7 of the 9 past games. They offence has not been working very well and their defense has been pathetic. The Bobcats rand 29th in the NBA with defense and 30th with offense. "I would have never thought this would happen with the way we performed on Opening Night at home. I am seriously considering making some big changes with this team if they do not begin to pick up their play. It is nothing wrong with the players on this team, but its the way the play on the court. We just need to work harder!" commented head GM and Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff.

The Bobcats definatly need to put out some more offense. PERIOD! Emeka Okafor is averaging well over 18 PPG and almost 10 RPG. If he keeps up his stats, he could be a great threat, but he need players that can also come and score along with him. The only players that have been able to come along side and score are Rookie guard Raymond Felton and Veteran guard Brevin Knight.

Recently, the bench has been showing more activity. Alex Acker has been showing some good offense along with Melvin Ely in rejecting shots and grabbing rebounds. Matt Carroll is starting to develop inbto the NBA player that everyone expected him to be and Sean May is slowly adapting to the Power Forward spot.

Look for this team to change the way the do things on and off the court. The Bobcats next game is at home against the suffering LA Lakers. Game time is at 7:30.

BOBCATS BLANK KOBE'S LAKERS

CHARLOTTE 84 L.A. LAKERS 61

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) - The Charlotte Bobcats showed signs that this team has a very bright future and can be a threat to teams now. Especially with their win against the Los Angeles Lakers. Right from the start, it didnt seem like Charlotte was even playing basketball.

The Lakers had jumped out to a 12-0 lead early in the 1st Quarter, but Charlotte once again came up with some offence and even the score by going on a 13-3 run to put them down by two towards the end of the 1st Quarter. Gerald Wallace drove the lane and threw down a thunderous dunk with 2.9 seconds left on the clock to tie things up at 15-15 after the first quarter.

In the 2nd Quarter was a quite bit different. The Bobcats come out firing shooting over 60% from the field and going 3/3 behind the 3-Point Line. Gerald Wallace kick started his scoring by scoring 12 of his 19 Points in this Quarter. Emeka Okafor was a beast picking up 3 Blocks off L.A.'s Gurads alone and a huge one on Lakers Center, Kwame Brown, rejecting
the ball into the stands. By the end of the Quarter, goinginto Halftime, You could tell that Los Angeles was already defeated going into the Locker Room.

In the 3rd and 4th Quarters, it was much of the same, but the amazing stat of the game was that Emeka Okafor picked up 4 more Blocks and all off LA All-Star Kobe Bryant to give him 5 Blocks off Kobe Bryant alone. then, in the 4th Quarter, the Bobcats brought out Rookie, Alex Acker. When he came into the game, you could tell he had something to prove to the world. And that was that he could make it in the NBA. Scoring 12 Points in the final Quarter and dishing out 3 Assists, he made himself known.

"Alex was a good acquirement on this team. He brings his offence and defense we need.," commented GM and Head Coach, Bernie Bickerstaff. "If he keeps on playing the way he did tonight, against the Lakers, he will definitly have a spot on this roster next year."
