INDIANA (AP)- From tip-off, new comers, Eddy Curry, showed early signs of a new future as he scored the teams first point from an assist from Jon Fajardo. Indiana dominated with their big men as O' Neal and Curry were too hot to stop from the field. Neither Horford or Pachulia could really stop them. O' Neal and Curry combined for a total of 29 points (Curry- 12 & O'Neal- 17). Off the bench, another big man contributed and performed well, Darko Milicic seemed to have came out of his shell and played all out basketball as he scored 15 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists. For Indiana's sake, let's hope Darko can keep those type of numbers every game!
From the backcourt, it was Dunleavy and Fajardo who carried the load as Dunleavy had a game high, 18 points while Fajardo had 12 points along with 12 assists giving him his 3rd double double of the preseason. Other players like, Granger, Tinsley and Daniels struggled as they combined for a total of 7 points with Tinsley adding 6 assists.
On Atlanta's side of the ball, there were not a lot of big points from their key players. Joe Johnson finished with 12 points, Josh Smith finished with 6 points and 7 rebounds, Horofrd had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as he had the teams high. The Hawks just could not find a way to answer to the combo of O' Neal and Curry which is probably the reason why they lost. Mike Bibby contributed to the load wih 10 points and 6 assists but obviously was not enough to put away the Pacers who seem to be on a roll as they finish the preseason with a 5-2 record.
Curry had his best start with Indiana as he had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals! If he keeps this up, Jermaine can be looking at another run at the title.

This is interesting and developing nicely.
Good luck!
POINT GUARD: In this battle we will see old school versus new school as Jason Kidd will go head to head against rookie, Jon Fajardo. Despite Fajardo's youth, he certainly has shown a lot of maturity during the preseason and most definitely has the leadership mentality which reminds a lot of of people of Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Kidd, on the other hand, has the huge advantage being he is a 15 year veteran and knows the game from the bottom up. This will be a key matchup in the game. Can Kidd or Fajardo stop each other from getting hot?
SHOOTING GUARD: This will be an odd match-up. It seems as if Avery Johnson will put Jason Terry as the starting shooting guard. No problem with that- only Mike Dunleavy is 6'9"! Look for the Pacers to go to work with Dunleavy early. However, if Terry has an advantage over Mike, then it would most certainly be his speed, if he can catch Dunleavy off his feet, then Terry just may have a chance in this match-up. But I highly doubt Dunleavy will allow a 6'2" point guard out play him.
SMALL FOWARD: We have the 6'7" Josh Howard against the 6'8" Danny Granger. In this match-up we pit two excellent defenders on each other. It will be hard to say who has the edge but whoever it is, they will have to play with every inch of the body in order to get something started because neither players will give up easy shots.
POWER FORWARD: And now we come to the heart and soul of this match-up. Dirk Nowitzki against Jermaine O' Neal. Both leaders of their team and both the heart as well. It will be a hard task for O' Neal to stay with Dirk because of Dirk's versatility. He can shoot the three and pretty much everywhere he wants to on the floor which puts the Pacers' insde game in danger. Dirk will have a semi-hard time guarding O'Neal because of O'Neal's size and energy. If there is a match-up to watch, THIS wouldbe it.
CENTER: Another old versus new school match-up. We have the up and coming Eddy Curry against the defensive minded Erick Dampier. Dampier will look to shut Curry down but can he do it all game with Curry's size? Curry on the other hand won't need to worry about Dampier on the offensive end, if Curry can box Dampier out and prevent him from getting boards, then Dampier is pretty much a nobody on offense. Curry versus Dampier, who do you think will win it?
PREDICTION: The Mavs have the more coherent team and have the best probability to win. Dallas over Indiana.
INDIANA (AP)- What a way to kick off the regular- a home opener nonetheless- than by winning by double digits! That's exactly what the Pacers did as they began their season with a whole new roster and a whole new attitude.
In the 1st quarter it was Indiana's big's that were doing the hard work as Jermaine O'Neal and Eddy Curry were on a rampage. Granger later joined in on the action as well as Dunleavy. Jermaine O' Neal had Dirk on lock for the entire first quarter as Dirk only scored 4 points and had 2 boards. Fajardo gave himself his first career high 12 assists with 6 in the first quarter alone.
In the 2nd quarter, the Mavs came back shooting with flying colors! Jason Terry got on a roll as he scored 15 of his total points in this quarter to give the Pacers only a 5 point lead. Dirk started showing signs of being hot as he nailed keys shots that would tie the game up eventually. However, that tie would be the closest thing to a lead the Mavs would get.
As the second half began, It was the Pacers' bench that took control. Being led by Ike Diogu, the Pacers got on a 11-4 run which would ultimately put them up by 14 ending the 3rd. In the 4th, the starting unit came back out for a little more action as they had a 7-0 run before Coach O'Brien brought back out his bench. Shots later, the Pacers ultimately won the game and now have a 1 next to their win column as they start the season 1-0!
