The Hornets select Julian Wright with the 13th pick in the NBA Draft.
(NEW ORLEANS AP) -- We're certainly not in Kansas anymore! That was probably
Julian Wright's first thoughts after being selected 13th overall by the New Orleans Hornets. To many Kansas Jayhawks fans, it came to a surprise that the top 10 prospect slid down to #13. Hornets General Manager
Jeff Bower, had to jump at the chance to pick him up. "He has skills that can be used in so many ways." said Bower "He’s able to take a defensive rebound and turn it into a transition opportunity with his (ballhandling) and ability to make plays for other people. He’s able to go into the post, and that’s something you’ll see more of as he gets more comfortable with his offensive game, that continues to get better. The thing that’s also important is when you go back to his high school career, he’s played minutes at the point guard position as well. This is a player we can remember watching in the McDonald’s All-Star Game as a high school senior. We were quite amazed with his skills back then. Now to have him join our franchise two years later is really a positive, positive thing."
There were a lot of other good prospects the Hornets could've gotten. But Hornets Head Coach
Byron Scott made it clear why they drafted Wright. "The first thing about the kid is he’s going to make guys better and make us a much better passing team when he’s on the floor." said Scott. "And he can score in the low post, either with his right hand or left hand. He’s got a tremendous first step and is very explosive getting off the ground. There are a lot of little things he does well that are going to help us overall."
"It's a big step going from college to the pros." said Wright. "But Coach Scott and the rest of the Hornets are gonna help me progress as a player."

JULY 2007
Hornets sign G/F Morris Peterson.
(NEW ORLEANS AP) -- The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have signed guard/forward
Morris Peterson as a free agent. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
“Morris was our top free agent target this summer, so this is an exciting day for the team and our fans,” said General Manager
Jeff Bower. “He is a reliable veteran scorer who can stretch the defense with his three-point range, which is exactly the role we were looking to fill.”
Peterson (6-7, 220) holds career averages of 12.0 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting .421 from the field, .782 from the free throw line and .371 from three-point range in 542 games. He has played his entire seven-year career with the Toronto Raptors and averaged 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 71 games.
“I’m looking forward to having Mo on our team this season,” said Head Coach Byron Scott. “In addition to what he brings to us on the court, he exemplifies the type of high-character individual that can help us build a positive team environment.”
Peterson’s best statistical season came in 2005-06 when he averaged 16.8 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting .436 from the field, .820 from the free throw line and .395 from three-point range in 82 games. He has averaged double figures in scoring in four of his seven NBA seasons and has played in at least 70 games in six of his seven seasons (competing in all 82 games four times).

Chris Paul, David West and Morris Peterson start preparing for the upcoming season.
(NEW ORLEANS AP) -- The Hornets have finally reached the new era. An era without
Larry Johnson,
Muggsy Bogues or
Alonzo Mourning. That was one of the most dominant Hornets lineups in their team's history. This year, they have begun the rebuliding process after spending their previous seasons in Oklahoma. "It's great to be back in New Orleans!" said Hornets foward
David West. "Hurricane Katrina damaged a lot here, so we had to move to Oklahoma. The time has come, and we're back in New Orleans. Our team's doing a lot of charity work for the homes that were damaged in the Hurricane. But I can't wait until we head onto the court and hear that cry of the Hornets fans I haven't heard in a long time."
"Being back in New Orleans, shows a lot has happened since Katrina" said Hornets guard
Chris Paul. "I played my all when we were in Oklahoma, but now since we're back in the original city, I'm giving everything I got to get our team and the fans a playoff spot!"
"The NBA and the Hornets have done a lot of charity work for the people affected by the Hurricane." said new Hornet
Morris Peterson. "The city is amazing, and the people are so nice. It really lifts our spirits that the people were able to overcome a lot in the last few years. Getting on the court for the first time in New Orleans, it'll be an amazing feeling."
