[07] Houston Rockets [2-2]: Roy, Aldridge blaze past Rockets

Sun Dec 30, 2007 8:16 pm

Houston Rockets

Note: This'll be my second go-around with this as my older file got corrupted.

I'll be using updated rosters (accurate as of 12/30/07, meaning Korver is with the Jazz) so the rookies in Live 07 (Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Randy Foye, etc) will be sophomores for my first season. And rookies Kevin Durant, Greg Oden, Mike Conley will be in the game. Real life injuries will not be included and as such Greg Oden, Elton Brand, Shaun Livingston and Mike Bibby will not miss out on a lot of action.

I'll try to do per game recaps and at the end of each week, I'll do a weekly recap to cover the league's action. At the end of each month, I'll be posting top 10 league stories, some of which I will be making up. Stories will most likely be noting the following: a particular team on a roll, trade (or FA signing) rumours around the league, coaching changes, chemistry issues and maybe even discussing the top rookie prospects.

I'll only be playing the 4th quarter of 2 possession games so if the game recap isn't very detailed or there are no screenshots available, that means I didn't play the game.

Golden State Warriors (1-0) @ Houston Rockets (0-0)

Rockets fall in home opener

The Golden State Warriors are riding on the momentum of last year's playoff run. After exacting revenge against the Utah Jazz in an opening night win, the Warriors walloped the Rocketson Houston's home opener 98-78. The Warriors are now 2-0 to open the season, with both wins coming on the road.

The Warriors enjoyed a balanced offensive attack as all five starters scored in double figures, led by Baron Davis' 20 points and Mickael Pietrus with 16. Al Harrington continued to stuff the stat sheet as he scored 11 points, 6 boards, 6 dimes. He also was active on the defensive end, pocketing 2 steals and turning back 4 shots.

The Rockets were led by 22 points apiece from their one-two punch, Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming. Chuck Hayes led the game in rebounds as he hauled down 15.

NEXT UPDATE: Game 2 vs Minnesota Timberwolves.

Sorry for the lackluster update on the home opener, I simmed first three quarters and it was a blowout so I decided not to play the game hence, not a lot of pics and no game descriptions. Find the links for the boxscore in the first mention of each team in the article. I'll be inserting highlight pics in that manner when I do get to play a game. So hopefully you'll be able to catch that in the Game 2 update.

Minnesota Timberwolves (1-0) @ Houston Rockets (0-1)

Rockets bounce back, blow out Timberwolves

The Timberwolves have shown us they can score, but the defense forgot to show up tonight. Despite having six players score in double figures, the T-wolves gave up way too many points against the Houston Rockets and lost 124-97.

The Rockets were led by Tracy McGrady's great all-around game, as he scored 30 points, dished 6 assists and pulled down 8 boards. Yao Ming did not miss a beat and finished with a respectable stat line of 28 points, 5 boards, and 3 blocks. Not to be overlooked is Bonzi Well's line off the bench, 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

Rookie Aaron Brooks, after struggling mightily in his first game of the season, scored 8 points in 14 minutes of action and seems to be gaining more confidence.

The Timberwolves were led by Al Jefferson's 17 points and 7 rebounds, and Randy Foye with 15 points, and 6 assists.

Phoenix Suns (0-2) @ Houston Rockets (1-1)

Rockets keep Suns winless

In the opening minutes of the 4th quarter, the Rockets struggled on their offensive execution, managing to score only a single point in the first 2 and a half minutes minutes of the quarter. The Rockets kept close with the help of their defense giving up only 5 points to the explosive Suns during their offensive drought.

The Rockets' defense broke apart and gave up a 6-0 run while the offensive drought continued. McGrady threw one down over the Suns' Amare Stoudemire to end the Suns' 6-0 run, firing up the crowd. And a few possessions later, he threw down a similar slam dunk on the open floor and the crowd roared even louder, keeping the Rockets in the game.

The Rockets kept with the up-tempo pace of the Suns and finally took the lead via a T-Mac 3 pointer with 5 minutes left in the ballgame. The lead was shortlived as Barbosa canned a three to put the Suns up by 2. McGrady quickly tied the game after making 2 free throws off a Stoudemire foul.

Yao blocked Nash's lay-up attempt on a fastbreak play and the Rockets would key in on a 6-0 run, taking the lead for good as the Suns came up short in moments where they could've tied the ballgame or taken the lead during the final minutes of the ballgame and have now fallen to 0-3.

McGrady was named Player of the Game as he led the team's rally in the 4th quarter by scoring 19 of his game-high 45 points in the final quarter.

NEXT UPDATE: Game 3 vs Portland

Mon Dec 31, 2007 7:30 pm

Portland Trailbazers (0-1) @ Houston Rockets (2-1)

Roy, Aldridge lead Blazers over Rockets.

Entering the 4th Quarter down 93-83, the Rockets made an adjustment defensively and quickly paid off in dividends. After stifling the Blazers in the first possessions of the quarter, the Rockets lived up to the maxim that says The best offense is a good defense, as they ran the floor after every stop and converted on a number of easy baskets, including McGrady going for a slam which made the crowd roar with excitement.

Portland would not let Houston gather up enough momentum for a run as LaMarcus Aldridge threw down a power slam, putting Chuck Hayes on the poster, to silence the crowd.

The Portland bigs had trouble with Yao Ming as the Rockets' Center man-handled Joel Przybilla, Channing Frye and rookie Greg Oden. Oden struggled in the high-profile match-up and would finish scoring only a point, hauling down 6 rebounds, and fouling out in 30 minutes of action against Yao Ming.

In one sequence, Channing Frye got a pass in the post from Brandon Roy, and he faced up, looked to dunk the ball but was blocked by Yao, Outlaw picked up the miss, fired a running jumper but miss and Frye would secure the offensive board. Frye went for a lay-up and again got blocked by Yao.

As much as the Portland centers could not stop Yao, Brandon Roy was unstoppable through the 1st 3 quarters, scoring 25 of his 32 points in those periods. When Roy was shut down in the 4th, Aldridge brought his A-game and prevented the Rockets from getting close.

The Rockets could not close in on the Blazers, however, and with 5 minutes left in the ball game, LaMarcus Aldridge silences the crowd with another powerful slam off the isolation against Luis Scola.

Yao Ming proceeded to burn the Blazers as he hits a turnaround jumper over Frye's outstretched arms. Scola would then draw a charge on Aldridge, as he tried to spin past Scola. McGrady would then convert a reverse lay-up against 2 Blazer defenders to cut the lead down to 6, with 4 minutes remaining in the ballgame.

The Blazers answered as LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy hit a pair of lay-ups to push the lead up to 10. The Rockets' offensive and defensive execution would falter the rest of the way, giving up another slam dunk to LaMarcus Aldridge, which put Portland up 122-110. Roy would proceed to hit the cold-blooded three with 1:15 remaining to douse all hopes of a Rocket comeback.

Brandon Roy was named Player of the Game as he turned in a solid effort with 32 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists as the Blazers won 125-112. Portland is now 1-1, Houston drops to 2-2.

Notes: Forgot to take a picture of Roy winning PotG so, I guess you'll have to make do without one for this update.

Hmm, 100 views and no one's even replying (that isn't me of course), might stop tracking this online as holiday break is going to be over soon and I don't want the pressure of updating something no one seems to be following.

You need pictures, or logos or player headshots or something. Otherwise it just looks ugly.. good luck

Looks like my old Blazer dynasty. Don't bitch about not getting replies, and take Chaser's advice.

SpaceFlare,
Yes. Listen to Chaser and Lamrock, put more images. The write ups are pretty good...better then mine ever were. If you need some kind of help with images/banners or w/e holla at me.

Ok, things have just taken a turn for the worse. Sorry for all those who've been following this, but I had to have my computer reformatted and as such I have lost all my files.

I have to discontinue this again. Sadly... I was enjoying this thoroughly actually. I might not do another one as university life, and other commitments might keep me too busy. I actually had the weekly recap nearly done by the time my computer decided to break.
