Recap:

1st Quarter:

The Clippers started out slow, missing easy shots, leading to an early Kings lead of 17-9. Corey Maggette also got 2 quick fouls within the 1 1/2 minutes, sidelining him the entire quarter. With Rebraca off the bench, Rebraca and Brand led an offensive charge to trim the lead to 17-16, bringing together a close game, with the help of tightening defense against the Kings on the inside. With quick plays drawn up by both teams, the Kings led 21-20 at the halfway point of the quarter. The game remained close, with the Kings leading 27-26 with 2 minutes left, they held off the Clippers 35-29 to lead ending the 1st. The Clippers attempted every shot in or next to the paint the entire quarter, while the Kings shot evenly between the paint and the perimeter.

1st Quarter Stats:

FG%: Kings 13/24 (.542), Clippers 11/21 (.524)
3pt%: Mavericks 1/5 (.200), Clippers 0/0 (-)
FT%: Kings 8/9 (.889), Clippers 7/9 (.778)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 11, Mike Bibby 9, Shareef Abdur-Rahim 6, Walter McCarty 4, Kenny Thomas 4, Bonzi Wells, Jason Hart 4

2nd Quarter:
Playing starters at the start of the quarter, both teams made a lot of shots, but neither team was able to build up a hefty advantage, with the score at 53-47 halfway through. With Corey Maggette back in the game, he took his 4th foul near the end of the 2nd and had to be sidelined once again, kept in the game after the 3rd foul to take a risk. At the end, the Clippers climbed back within 1 point for the last part of the 2nd thanks to great shooting, but was unable to take a lead, due to its number of turnovers. This left the Kings ahead 63-62 at the half.

2nd Quarter Stats:

FG%: Kings 12/26 (.462), Clippers 14/19 (.737)
3pt%: Kings 0/5 (.000), Clippers 0/1 (.000)
FT%: Kings 4/4 (1.000), Clippers 5/8 (.625)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 22, Corey Maggette 13, Mike Bibby, Shareef Abdur-Rahim 10, Ron Artest 10

3rd Quarter:

The Clippers quickly opened its first play of the 2nd half with Mobley's drive towards the basket, earning him two free throws and the first Clippers lead at 64-63. But the Kings raced back, capping a 11-0 run from down 66-65 soon after to bring the lead to 76-66. Minutes later, after having a fatigued starting team, the Clippers switched to their bench with 7:30 to play, though leaving Brand in the game while the Clippers were down 80-72. The Kings simply opened up a bigger lead, leading 89-74 by the halfway point. A frustrated Mike Dunleavy Sr. sent his starters , minus Maggette, back into the game at that point. While the Kings were able to expand the lead to 17 at one point, the Kings ended the quarter up by 10, 102-92. As usual in the game, only the Clippers frontcourt found any success, primarily through Kaman and Brand. The Kings were able to score in more ways.

3rd Quarter Stats:

FG%: Kings 15/26 (.577), Clippers 12/29 (.414)
3pt%: Kings 1/7 (.143), Clippers 0/0 (-)
FT%: Kings 8/10 (.800), Clippers 6/12 (.500)

4th Quarter:

The bench, along with Maggette, began the 4th for the struggling Clippers. After keeping the Clippers from dropping further, Kaman, Mobley, and Livingston came back at the 8:47 mark, and Maggette took a rest, with the Clippers down 113-101. Dunleavy filled the frontcourt gap by putting Brand and Maggette back in the game with 6:37 to play, Kings still up 117-104. Pumped up, the complete starting lineup, which had barely played with each other in the game at all, went on a run and gun 8-0 spurt, with the help of solid defense through blocking and rebounding, to cut the lead to 117-112. The Kings quickly called a timeout to try to slow the momentum with 5:04 left in the game. After a Mobley to Kaman alley-oup, Bibby finally hit a 3 pointer to end the Clippers' 12-0 run, with the score at 120-114. The Clippers simply answered that with more baskets, and Brand's 2 free throws tied the game up at 120-120 with 3:26 to play. Forced to play perimeter and 3-point shots, the Kings did so, regaining the lead at 125-122, but the Clippers bounced back off a crowd-pleasing windmill dunk by Corey Maggette with 1:31 to play, to lead 126-125. This was the first Clippers lead since the beginning of the 3rd quarter, and they increased it, expanding it to 131-125 before another Kings timeout, with 1:06 to go.

1-3-1 Zone had been harassing the Kings, but Bibby quickly put away a 3-pointer to trim the Clippers' lead to 3. In response, Brand made a layup with 44 seconds to go, to give the Clippers a 133-128 lead. Abdur-Rahim then drew a foul on Brand on the next play, and made just the 2nd free throw. The score was now 133-129 with 38.1 seconds to play, so the Clippers gave the ball to their best starting free throw shooter, Maggette. He was fouled by Ron Artest with 25.4 seconds left, and made both free throws to get a 135-129 lead. Hart responded with his own jumper out of a half-court man-to-man defense, and missed. Brand was fouled immediately after the rebound with 15.9 seconds to play, making both free throws. The Kings substituted Sampson for Skinner for the next play. Hart missed the final shot, and Maggette dribbled the time away as the Clippers win 137-129.

Phoenix, AZ (AP) - Last night, the Los Angeles Clippers played their first preseason game on the road.

SG - Cuttino Mobley
SF - Corey Maggette

C - Chris Kaman

PF - Shawn Marion
C - Amare Stoudemire

Bench: Kurt Thomas/Jim Jackson/Leandro Barbosa/Raja Bell/Brian Grant/Eddie House/Nikoloz Tskitishvili

Recap:

1st Quarter:

The Clippers opened the game with solid offense, posting up in the paint and going for easy layups, while playing solid half-court man-to-man on the Suns, forcing the Suns to make ill-advised shots in the paint as well as on the perimeter. And by stopping the Suns' fast breaking, the Clippers opened a 17-8 lead halfway through the quarter with Brand and Livingston leading the way, on 7/8 shooting in comparison to the Suns' 4/14. The Clippers starters continued their attack through the rest of the 1st, as no subs checked in. However, the Suns themselves came back to play, as Amare Stoudemire had many dunks of his own to respond to Brand and Kaman's presence in the paint. Still, the Clippers held on to the lead, 39-27, thanks to utterly amazing shooting %, and was hindered only by turnovers which led to many Suns' fast break points.

1st Quarter Stats:

FG%: Clippers 17/19 (.895), Suns 12/32 (.375)
3pt%: Clippers 0/0 (-), Suns 1/7 (.143)
FT%: Clippers 5/10 (.500), Suns 2/2 (1.000)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 15, Chris Kaman 10, Amare Stoudemire 8, Shaun Livingston 6, Steve Nash 5

2nd Quarter:

The Clippers, with their starters weary, opted to play their bench lineup against a rejuvenated Suns team, which outrebounded the Clippers and once again burned the Clippers in number of shots taken. With the Suns on the run, the Clippers' lead dropped to 44-38 at one point, but with 5:31 left to play in the 2nd, and the lead down to 50-45, the Clippers called timeout to bring back their starting lineup into the game. After the Suns closed to within 53-49, the Clippers went on the attack, using Brand as the go-to guy and playing aggressive defense against the Suns, forcing them to shoot difficult perimeter shots. This led to a 10-0 run to pull the Clippers ahead 63-49. The quarter ended with power forwards on the march, as Elton Brand had 23 and Amare Stoudemire had 14, in the key matchup of the game. The Clippers led 65-55 at halftime.

2nd Quarter Stats:

FG%: Clippers 11/20 (.550), Suns 12/30 (.400)
3pt%: Clippers 0/0 (-), Suns 2/5 (.400)
FT%: Clippers 4/8 (.500), Suns 2/2 (1.000)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 23, Amare Stoudemire 14, Shawn Marion, Chris Kaman 11, Corey Maggette 10, Jim Jackson 10

3rd Quarter:

Fearing another Suns run with Clippers' starters on the bench, the Clippers played a lineup of Kaman, Brand, McCarty, Mobley, and Cassell to give Livingston and Maggette to rest beginning the 3rd for two minutes. Sensing an advantage, the Suns quickly mobilized and cut the Clippers lead in half, 71-66. Even that wasn't enough, as the Suns continued a 11-0 run to take a 75-71 lead, their biggest lead of the night at that point. The Clippers were unable to make any shots, and even Brand's shots were rejected by well-timed blocks. With trouble shooting through the quarter, the Suns led 85-78 with 5 minutes to play in the quarter, and held on, leading by 11 at one point. The Suns led 103-93 at the end of the 3rd.

3rd Quarter Stats:

FG%: Clippers 12/27 (.444), Suns 18/29 (.621)
3pt%: Clippers 0/0 (-), Suns 1/5 (.200)
FT%: Clippers 4/5 (.800), Suns 11/11 (1.000)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 33, Amare Stoudemire 20, Steve Nash 19, Chris Kaman 17, Corey Maggette 16, Shawn Marion 16

4th Quarter:

Despite being down, the Clippers gave their starters a rest to begin the 4th, having their bench play first, buying the starters a good 1 1/2 minutes. The Suns led 107-95. The starters, despite making a strong effort to fast break, committed many turnovers in the process, and was unable to break the Suns' advantage. With 6:05 to go, and down 117-106, the Clippers decided to put their bench back into the game, to give the starters two minutes of rest for the final stretch. At the end of it, the Suns remained up 126-112 with 4:14 to play. Still unable to catch up, the Clippers continued to commit frustration fouls until the end of the quarter, losing 149-129.

While the Clippers hit 63% from the field, the Suns won off a hefty turnover and free throw advantage, hitting 34/34 from the line and forcing the Clippers to get 41 turnovers, stunning all observers of the game. Elton Brand's 44 points weren't enough for the Clippers, who suffer their worst preseason loss yet. The Clippers will have to be more careful with their passing and free throws in Portland on Tuesday to win again.

Recap:

1st Quarter Recap:

Both teams opened the quarter with power in the paint, as Ratliff and the Clippers frontcourt exchanged baskets. Thanks to Ratliff's offensive rebounding, the Blazers jumped to an early 12-8 lead within 3 minutes, with neither team really playing defense. Switching to a mix of zone, the Clippers led 17-16 at the halfway point, with the Clippers being led by Brand's scoring while the Blazers used a mixture of players to get their points. The Clippers kept a lead with 4 minutes left, up 21-20, and then put in their bench into the game for good after letting some bench players switch in prior to that. The Clippers' bench, pressing the points in the paint, were able to maintain a 29-26 advantage at the end of the quarter. The Clippers only committed four turnovers to the Blazers' five, a great improvement from the previous games.

1st Quarter Stats:

FG: Clippers 11/18 (.611), Blazers 12/28 (.429)
3pt: Clippers 0/1 (.000), Blazers 0/4 (.000)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 12, Sebastian Telfair 6, T. Ratliff 4, Corey Maggette 4, Cuttino Mobley 4, Z. Rebraca 4

2nd Quarter Recap:

Both teams fought to a virtual standstill in the first half of the quarter, as both teams attacked the rim and did so with decent success. While the Clippers struggled with rebounding and free throwing, they made up for by aggressive defense which forced the Trailblazers to miss many shots. As both teams rotated in bench players every few minutes to give a few starters time to rest, the Clippers kept a 39-36 lead with 5:52 to play. The Clippers then went on the offensive, shutting down any opposition in the paint through Brand and Maggette, and stunted the Blazers back on defense. Before long, halftime had arrived and the Clippers held a 60-49 lead.

2nd Quarter Stats:

FG: Clippers 12/20 (.600), Blazers 8/24 (.333)
3pt: Clippers 0/0 (-), Blazers 0/4 (.000)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 24, Darius Miles 12, Zach Randolph 12, Corey Maggette 11, Cuttino Mobley 11

3rd Quarter Recap:

The Blazers came out of the locker rooms ready to play, quickly chipping the lead to 74-69 within 5 minutes, with shots from the perimeter. The Clippers also had some difficulty hitting their own shots. The Clipper starters responded quickly with their own 10-0 run to take a 84-69 advantage with 4 minutes to go in the quarter. With 1:51 to play and the Clippers' lead at 90-77, Dunleavy put in the bench to play out the rest of the quarter, which shut out the Blazers for the final two minutes. The Clippers kept a solid 98-77 lead after three quarters.

3rd Quarter Stats:

FG: Clippers 14/23 (.609), Blazers 13/26 (.500)

Overall Leading Scorers: Elton Brand 36, Darius Miles 20, Corey Maggette 19, Cuttino Mobley 13, Zach Randolph 12, Sebastian Telfair 12

4th Quarter Recap:

The Clippers, returning with their starters, continued to the attack, and the game became a lost cause for the Blazers. By 7:41, the Clippers had withdrawn their starters after stabilizing a 111-83 lead, and the Clippers bench played the rest of the game. While the Blazers made a run early on and cut the lead down to 21 at one point, the bench struck back, and by 3:30 remaining in the game, the Clippers had taken back a sizeable 122-93 lead. With even the Blazer starters unable to make any gain on the clipper reserves, the Clippers won handily, 131-104.

Next?
