Raps Interim GM Resigns
Toronto Raptors interim general manager Wayne Embry resigned this morning following the end of the NBA regular season. The Raptors once again missed out on the playoffs after another poor losing season.
Embry was hired after Rob Babcock was fired in January. Despite continuous talks to persuade Embry to stay on as the permanent general manager Embry officially stepped down as the interim GM but will remain as an advisor to the new GM.
The Raptors job looks very appealing thanks to Embry, Embry made some good moves during his time as GM:
Jalen Rose to New York in exchange for Antonio Davis.
Aaron Williams to New Orleans in exchange for cash.
Eric Williams + Raphael Araujo to Milwaukee in exchange for Jermaine Jackson + Ervin Johnson.
Kelvin Cato to Atlanta in exchange for Atlanta's 1st Round Draft Pick (2006)
Embry rid the team of the larger contracts of Jalen Rose, Eric Williams and Aaron Williams in exchange for the expiring contracts of Antonio Davis, Jermaine Jackson and Ervin Johson, aswell as removing 'bust' Araujo from the team. Embry's final move on trade deadline day involved signing FA Kelvin Cato (wavied by Detroit) and trading him for Atlanta's highly projected draft pick.
The look for a new Raptors GM begins, sources are linking Suns highly regarded President + GM Bryan Colangelo.
(
Embry will remain as an advior to the new GM.)
