Pistons rally, but don't have enough in end
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) --
Rip Hamilton scored 26 points and 4 steals for the
Detroit Pistons, but it wasn't enough, as the
Boston Celtics defeated the current Eastern Conference champions.
The final score was 123-114 for
Paul Pierce's team, who had 30-7-7.
LaFrentz got injured after a collision with Ben Wallace
"We had a great fourth quarter, but they played better defense than us,"
Flip Saunders said.
Ricky Davis and
Dan Dickau scored 31 points apiece for the Celtics, when
Ben Wallace had 17 points and 7 rebounds.

Wallace outduels Yao
HOUSTON (AP) --
Ben Wallace had 26 points and 12 rebounds in 10-for-12 shooting to lead the
Detroit Pistons to a 130-107 win over the
Houston Rockets.
Jason Maxiell again showed his quality play: 16 points and 5 assists.
Yao Ming led Houston with 33 points, followed by
Tracy McGrady and
Rafer Alston (21 each).
"It was a really nice game," Maxiell said. "We finished it in the 3rd."
"Well, a 23-point loss is never good," McGrady added. "We need more work."

Defensive Pistons slow down Mavericks
DALLAS (AP) --
Rip Hamilton had 19 points in 6-for-7 shooting and led the Pistons to a 108-93 win over the Mavs.
Jason Maxiell again broke 10-point barrier and scored 14.
"We did an outstanding job of taking care of the ball,'' said Hamilton.
"We got outworked and outplayed in every facet of the game,''
Dirk Nowitzki said. He got fouled-out in the beginning of the last quarter, but scored 32 points.
Josh Howard added 15 points for Dallas, when
Jason Terry only had 6 against
Chauncey Billups's 18.
