Milwaukee Press Conference 29/9/05

A small media crowd begins to gather at press conference, held today for the Milwaukee Bucks. Today fronting the media will be new radical general manager Adam Johnson to answer a few questions, set rumors straight and let the fans know what there in for this season.

New Milwaukee General Manager Adam Johnson takes the stand for the first time in his short career. To begin with Johnson wants to discuss the roster that has been released for the upcoming season, imparticular the recent public scrutiny that has been recieved regarding Illasoya taking position on the court, and Joe Smith being benched. The rumors have been rife in the past week that Smith may even be traded, or released by the Bucks. Johnson begins by saying that he would never say never, however, the Bucks are in the rebuilding process...and for that to be sucessful you have to give youngsters court time. That position will be rotated between Smith and Illasoya, Desmond Mason may even get that position from time to time. He plans to change the starting five on more than one occasion during the season, to find that so called recipie for success.

A reporter from Sportcenter places her hand and asks the question about just who will he hope are the main foundations in this "recipe for sucess", who is this franchise going to be built around for the future? Johnson responds quickly, he points out the obvious Michael Redd, arguably the best shooter in the NBA, along with Andrew Bogut who will one day hopefully be the face of the Bucks. To assist them T.J Ford, Desmond Mason, Jiri Welsch and Bobby Simmons will all be vital.

A young male reporter places his hand in the air, and asks just how far Johnson thinks the Bucks can go this season. Johnson takes a while to think, and says that this season is not going to be about going all the way, because realistically thats quite a way off. This year is about creating a team that will begin a revolution for the Bucks, and create long term sucess. Johnson thinks that the roster he has taken over could very well be the start of something, however, to be honest the team has plenty of stars, but lacks a superstar. And that is all part of a plan to develop the Bucks into a legendary line-up.

The woman from Sportscenter asks another question, this time, is Johnson worried about the "lack of depth" in the Bucks line-up. Johnson responds, in an honest fashion and says it could become a potential issue, and isnt going to hide the fact that recruiting may be needed to compete with sides such as Miami and Detroit. Over time some of the fringe players may find different homes, but wants to create a main structure. He says he hopes Redd, Bogut, Simmons, Welsch, Mason, Ford and Illasoya are around for years to come. Thats not to say other players on the roster won't be, but would like to add a few other players to that list.

A middle aged man from the Milwaukee Times asks the question just how much is this squad relying on its younger players this year? Are the Bucks going to be humiliated? Johnson seems a little fired up, and simply states that he believes in his team this season, and for as long as he is around. And although an NBA Championship is a long way off, he does not believe this team will be the cellar dwellars this year.

Johnson finishes the press conference on that note and thanks everyone for coming. All questions will be answered on October 10th when the action gets underway....

From that passage, I kinda feel how professional this dynasty can be...
Question from Bangkok: How will you see the future of Andrew Bogut, based from the summer leagues?

I agree about the Illasoya thing, IMO you should start:
C Gadzuric
PF Bogut
SF Simmons/Mason (you should decide after a couple of games)
SG Redd
PG TJ Ford
Gadzuric at C is more than just a biased pick, he's a very talented defender and rebounder and you can train him offensively.

Milwaukee 2005-2006 GM's Roster Review Leaked!

Postby magik on Wed Oct 05, 2005 2:06 pm

All staff, the following is a review I have put together of our roster, what our side needs to become a success, the players that are playing for there contracts this season, as well as the players that I have really high expectations of for the following season. This is an internal review and I wouldnt expect it to be leaked.

The Foundation
[Michael Redd] Seen by many as the face of the Milwaukee Bucks for the following season, I couldn't agree more. No doubt he will be our franchise player for the upcoming season, and I am expecting high numbers from Redd, on both ends of the court. I have nothing but praises for Redd, who is the foundation for the rebuilding the Bucks into a supreme dynasty.

Important Players
[Andrew Bogut] High hopes for the number one pick from last seasons NBA draft. Although not expecting superior numbers this season, I hope he can assist the team on and off the court. Long term Bogut will be vital, as he will no doubt be the future of Milwaukee.

[Desmond Mason] Will be depended on, as one of the upper ranked players on the team. Hoping his versatility will take a lot of the pressure off Redd. Mason is capable of putting up big numbers, and this season we will need them more than ever. Potential future superstar.

[Bobby Simmons] Big recruit from the Clippers, last years most improved player, hoping he can continue to improve wearing a Bucks jersey. Probably very similar to Mason, as he will be a much required player for the future.

[T.J Ford] After missing all of last season a lot of hope is coming from Ford to assist this team. Is hoped to put up some high scores from time to time this season. Will no doubt enjoy a lot of court time this season.

Mid Ranged Players
[Ersan Illasoya] I have been criticised not only by the media, but internally for the faith I have put into Illasoya. He has potential, and I feel if developed properly can be efficient. Only time will tell whether or not Illasoya is the real deal, as I believe he can be.

[Dan Gadzuric] Capable of grabbing some big boards, primarily will be back up for both Bogut and Illasoya. Will be given plenty of oppurtunity over the season, and may end up competing with Illasoya for a position in the starting five. There is potential written all over this kid.

[Jiri Welsch] I'm a big fan of this kid, immediatley won't be given plenty of court time. Only reason being is the depth in the small forward/shooting guard positions. May receive some minutes later in some games. Hoping he gives us plenty with the court time he gets, so he can be used more and more.

[Maurice Williams] Back up for TJ Ford at the PG position. Will get some court time over the season and is a strong player to come off the bench to cover Ford. Hoping he will be a consistent bench player for the Bucks.

The Fringe
[Toni Kukoc] Veteran of the game now, will recieve bursts on the court but not expected to be a main player. Still expected to be helpful from time to time. Hoping he can assist the younger guys develop and have a big season as it may be his final season.

[Charlie Bell] May be given a bit more court time this season, hasn't been used often but does have potential. Will be given the opportunity to shine occasionally. Will be back up to Ford and Williams at PG position.

[Reece Gaines] Back up for Redd, hasn't had much court time in the past. May be given a bit of trial time but won't be a necessity. Will be interesting to see how things pan out.

Playing For Career

[Joe Smith] Must put up some big numbers when given court time. Getting older now and with Illasoya, Gadzuric and Bogut all young big men mediocrity will not be accepted by the big man. Unless there is some big numbers this season may find it to be his last.

[Ervin Johnson] Will recieve little court time, very much a veteran now. Will be his last season with the Bucks.

Wishlist from other teams

[Tyson Chandler] Recently resigned with the Bulls, however I am still keen to speak with Chandler. Won't come cheaply, however will be looked at during, or after the season. Would be a definite starter depending on how Illasoya takes this oppurtunity given to him.

[Andre Iguodaila] Definitley wont be given up easily by Philly, but still very high on the wishlist. Would be great back up for Redd, but also capable of playing the small forward position. Philly may be given an offer in the future, but for the time being Iguodaila is just being watched very closely.

[Kyle Korver] Another Philly player being looked at very closely. Can knock down three's like there is no tomorrow, a very exciting young prospect. Maybe within reach if we can post the right deal to Philly. We will continue to look at this young prospect.

[Anderson Varejo] At the moment we are keeping an eye on Varejo, as another young big man for the future. Which is the most important thing that we need for the time being. Will be looked into at a later date, depending on other prospects.

[Darko Milicic] May be a surprise for everyone for me to even mention this name. Disgruntled Detroit big man Milicic has not had very much luck in his career so far. However I would like to give the man an opportunity with the Bucks as a back up big man. An offer may be made very soon.

After the leak of the Bucks '06 Roster review rumours have been running rife around Milwaukee. Not only about who is going to dominate the Bucks this season, but also which players will actually still be around by the end of next season...the following are quotes received from magazines, news papers and television hosts regarding the Bucks for the following season.

From Slam Magazine, Oct 2005 Issue
"All doors have been rattled in the Bucks by the leak of this high profile report, the most interesting thing to note is that Joe Smith, a long term Bucks player is basically playing for his career in the eyes of new GM Adam Johnson. This must shatter Smith's confidence. Rumors are flying around that he is very upset by the remarks, word has it that Smith may be seeking a new home to finish a career. A potential thought may be that Smith will find a new home in Detroit, in exchange for Milicic. Time will only tell...."

On Sportscenter, Oct 6th 2005
"What we can tell you fans at home from this leaked report is that Michael Redd, Andrew Bogut, Desmond Mason, Bobby Simmons and T.J Ford hold the key to the future for the Bucks in the eyes of GM Johnson. And that this season Ervin Johnson and Joe Smith are playing for there careers! One must wonder how this report got public, and how much effect it will have on the team for the upcoming season."

Milwaukee Times, Oct 7th 2005
"Trade rumours are running rife in the town of Milwaukee, after a secret report was leaked to the media. According to the report Tyson Chandler, Andre Igudaila, Anderson Varejo, Kyle Korver and Darko Milicic are all being looked at by the powers that be at Bucks HQ. One must wonder if anything will come of this, and if any deals can go ahead. In other news from the report it seems Jiri Welsch and Ersan Illasoya may find themselves receiving big oppurtunties this season."

Hoops Magazine, Oct 2005 Issue
"Lets face it, the leaked report from the Bucks has made huge headlines. But one has to wonder, what GM Johnson has in store if the potential trades were to go ahead. I mean just who would be the trade bait? In the report he named all the quality players as must haves for the Bucks. Although it now looks as if Joe Smith may be traded off after this report was made public. But it may be hard to secure a decent player, due to his age, and the money the Bucks have him on. If any or all of these players end up wearing Bucks uniforms one has to wonder. The closest player linked to the Bucks is disgruntled Detroit power forward Darko Milicic. If he does end up in Milwaukee it may be good for everybody involved, it would give Milicic more opportunity, it may also stop the negativity that Detroit keeps receiving for signing him in the first place. It would also give the Bucks another young, tall player, which they are definitley lacking at the moment."

It is reported that GM Johnson will respond to the report, and the major publicity this report has received at a press conference tomorrow afternoon. Lets just wait and see how GM Johnson responds to all the negativity this report has received from the media.

Nice start to your dynasty! I've been a buck fan for ages and I was so stoked by them landing Bogut at #1.

I like the idea of trading Smith for Darko, probably noy overly realistic, but their salaries must be pretty close. I can't remember was Smiths is, but Darko's is approx 5mil per season cause I tried to trade for him in a celtics dynasty I've started. I would make this tried, and will possible do so in my Bucks dynasty once it gets underway.

I think you'll struggle to get Chandler and AI2, there both key components to their teams that would probably require Redd in exchange. Varejao is a solid prospect, I would have a shot at him as well if you can't get Darko or would prefer a more solid rebounder/defender than an all rounder.

Starting Ilyasoya will be interesting as he may be a little underdeveloped and fragile at the PF position. I would personally train him up as a SF to replace Kukoc when he goes. The type of player that can play both forward spots well and uses his all round skills and athleticism against opponents. Anyway should be interesting how he goes starting...

Anyway good luck man with the dynasty, I'll keep following this one.

Milwaukee Press Release Oct 7th 2005
This week, to my amazement the press got there hands on a copy of a roster review written by myself, which was only meant for the eyes of coaching staff and the powers that be in Milwaukee.

In the review, it had some information that was not meant for the eyes of outsiders, it included a mention of members from other teams that we would be pursuing in the upcoming season. Names like Varejo, Milicic, Iguadaila, Korver and Chandler were involved. To address this situation we are still interested in aquiring one, or all of the names mentioned, of course if we felt the deal would suit everybody involved.

Also to address the situation regarding Joe Smith, I have spoken to him and he has asked that we seek a trade for him immediatley. His wishes will be granted if we can recieve somebody of interest from another team. We are in the process of placing an offer to Detroit, but time will tell what will come out of that.

I would also like to take this oppurtunity to finalise the line-up for the preseason games, which will begin over the next couple of days. After much discussions along with the coaching squad we came up with a line-up we all agree will put all the other teams under pressure. We believe this could be the most young and exciting line-up in the NBA.

THE COACHING LINE-UP

HC- Terry Stotts AC1- Lester Conner AC2-Brian James

THE STARTING FIVE

C-Andrew Bogut F-Desmond Mason F-Bobby Simmons G-Michael Redd G-T.J Ford

IMMEDIATE BACKUP

6- Ersan Illasoya 7-Jiri Welsch 8-Toni Kukoc 9-Dan Gadzuric 10-Maurice Williams

MAY GET COURT TIME
ImageImage
11-Charlie Bell 12- Reece Gaines

Take note that Illasoya will start on the bench after much discussion, however look for him to be brought into the game early. It will all start in two days, I cannot wait, neither the fans for the beggining of a new era in Milwaukee, this is the start of the rebuilding process. Over the year I can guarentee some extremly exciting news on and off the court. To finish this note I would just like to say the Joe Smith incident will be finalised over the next couple of days, and we should hope to see some new talent bracing our roster shortly.

Take care Milwaukee fans, until next time

GM-Adam Johnson

I don't think Simmons can play the PF. Don't let him switch to a different position he can't play. Like him play his Natural Position. Good Dynasty.

Simmons has a bigger body and taller Im pretty sure and can play that game, but its up to you.

It is good though, that your starting D-Mase and Bobby (Y)

From Bucks.com
A BIG BUCKIN' UPDATE-The latest news and rumours from Milwaukee....
-Today in Milwaukee GM Adam Johnson called upon a press conference to discuss a new innovative idea the Bucks will be using this season. According to Johson this will give the players something to work for, and a reward for all the hard effort they have put in. To put it simply the best three players on the court for the Bucks will receive a vote...best on court receives three votes, second best two votes and third best one vote. Over the year the scores will be tallied, and at the end of the 82 games the player with the most votes recorded over the season will receive a $500,000 bonus!

-The rumours regarding the Joe Smith situation are in overdrive. The disgruntled veteran who was last week shocked to see comments made by the new general manager Adam Johnson has requested that he be traded from the Bucks. At this stage there has been some interest shown by other clubs, but not as much as one would hope. The teams that have shown interest include Philadelphia, Detroit, Charlotte, Orlando and Boston. Well this reporter can let all you guy's know that an offer from the Bucks has been placed to another team, and if this does go ahead it will give the Bucks a lot more hope this season. Just who is involved? Only time will tell my friends...

-Fans from all over the world are getting excited, its two more sleeps til Milwaukee's first pre-season game! The line-up was announced earlier this week, with Andrew Bogut, the aussie wonder boy starting for the Bucks! Other interesting things to note include Illasoya starting on the bench and the name "Joe Smith" nowhere to be seen, maybe another name will be added to the line-up before too long? Time can only tell...

-And finally for all you bookies out there, this reporter would just like to give his very own odd's on who will win the first Milwaukee Best Player Award in 2006. All though these odd's are purely a prediction and no doubt injuries, bad form and even trades may play a part in this...here is my odd's...

Image Michael Redd 3-1

Image Desmond Mason 7-1

Image Bobby Simmons 8-1

ImageAndrew Bogut 8-1

T.J Ford 10-1
Jiri Welsch 30-1
Dan Gadzuric 30-1
Tony Kukoc 50-1
Ersan Illasoya 100-1
Maurice Williams 100-1

Until next time, keep on Buckin' guys!

BUCKS MAKE TRADE WITH BOSTON
Milwaukee today came through with Joe Smith's wish to be traded away from the club. Smith's move is to the Celtics which he is said to be extremly pleased about. In return the Bucks receive Mark Blount who is also said to be pleased about the deal. He was quoted as saying "Milwaukee seems like the place to be at the moment, a lot of guys are getting oppurtunities to shine and now I'm a part of it, its a great feeling" As per team policy details of the deal were not disclosed.

BUCKS RESIGN FORMER PLAYER
The Bucks today signed Marcus Haislip to a two year deal. Haislip is happy to be back in Milwaukee and will more than likely take a position in the starting five. Another deal is also said to be in the works, only time will tell what will come of that. The team has had a good reception to both Blount and Haislip.
