Lakers Last Five Can't Bring Them Back
Image
It was not a good night for the Lakers

The Lakers last five were emphatically better than their first five last night, almost bringing the team back from the brink against Minnesota last night.

The Lakers were down 25 at the last change, and Phil Jackson started the quarter with Sasha Vujacic, Laron Profit, Jumaine Jones, Ronny Turiaf and Andrew Bynum.

The Lakers closed quickly, but at no point did Phil Jackson ever loo tempted to put his starters, or even Just Kobe Bryant, back onto the court.

"The five that were out there were doing a better job in that quarter than the starters did in the first three, and I figured that if anyone was going to get the job done, it was that five."

But they didn't, and the Lakers fell short by eleven points.

In a blow for Minnesota, Marko Jaric succumbed to an injury in the first quarter and did not return.

The Lakers travel to Philadelphia in two nights for a Friday night game against the 76ers.

Lakers go Down to Rampaging Sixers

Andre Iguodala posterizes Brian Cook

The Los Angeles Lakers came to Philadelphia, but mentally they were back home, in Los Angles.

The Lakers have not had a home game in a while, and for many of them last night, at home would have been a good place to be.

They were torched at both ends of the court by a rampaging Philadelphia lineup.

Kyle Korver's 6-11 from beyond the arc helped the Sixers cruise to victory.

The Lakers looked gone for all money at quarter time, and despite Phil Jackson's best efforts, the team simply did not perform.

The margin was looking to be double figures at the main break, but Kobe Bryant made two steals and hit two huge three point bombs, one from two feet behind the stripe.

This narrowed the margin to just three, before the Sixers took control again in the third.

Samuel Dalambert had five blocks and was instrumental in keeping the Lakers out of the paint, which was the only place they looked like scoring.

The Lakers play Memphis, again away, on Monday, while the Sixers play the Clippers in Philadelphia on Sunday.

The Lakers and Grizzlies battled it out last night in a match in which many people displayed talent...and none of them wore purple.

It takes a lot for a referee to solicit a streetball match instead of an official NBA fixture, but that's what they did, until evidently someone told them off at quarter time.

There was not one foul or turnover blown in the first term, in true streetball style.

The Lakers only received one whistle their way in the second term as well, while the refs clamped down and got the Lakers into the penalty with fve minutes still remaining until the major break.

This was where the Lakers fell apart, and they never really got back into the contest.

They weren't helped when Lamar Odom decided to see how far he could get the ball to bounce off the back of the rim after a dunk.

He promptly got placed on the bench.

The last ten minutes or so of the match were the rubbish minutes.

The game was over and the entire Lakers bench stormed on and gathered at least three fouls each in that time, with Laron Profit inches away from fouling out.

Kobe Bryant tried to save the game by putting up three after three, but not one dropped in the final quarter, as the Lakers looked more and more like an under twelves team as the game wore on.

The Lakers play the Knicks at Staples Center in two days, and if they play then like they did today, expect New York to, surprisingly, actually look like a good basketball team.

The police have started looking for the hiding place of the real Phil Jackson, and are identifying the imposter currently coaching the Lakers.
