BOBCATS TRANSACTIONS

Bobcats Trade Maggette to Detroit for Ben Gordon

Bobcats Looking To Improve From Horrible Prior Year

Charlotte, NC -- The Bobcats, formerly the Hornets, aren't doing to well. After struggling last year, and receiving the humiliating title of lowest winning percentage, Charlotte wants change. With the addition of young swingman Michael Kidd Gilchrist, they have potential. After a great NCAA career, 'MKG' is ready to bombard the Charlotte culture, and make it into a winning one.

"I, um, don't know what it is like to lose, or lose much. It isn't what I'm use to. I want to win, and we can't win unless we change, which we will this season. I'm just going to do what coach says and learn from him." reported after practice., Michael seems hungry and willing to fight for supremacy.

Without Corey Maggette, MKG could slip into the starting line-up, which might not be a bad idea. His combination of grit, athleticism and leadership could propel the Charlotte Bobcats to marginal success. It will be an uphill battle, but it surely is possible, but will require a whole team investment.

Ben Gordon has basically dropped off the face of the earth, playing for the Pistons and struggling to get minutes. Remember Gordon? Just a few years prior he was lighting up the Celtics while he was in a Bulls uniform, and brought a winning mentality to a very young team. Ben has been hitting the gym hard, according to Mike Dunlap - "Ben is getting stronger, he is shooting more and more and is looking to get into the starting line-up right away." said coach Dunlap.

During practice, Dunlap noticed Ben's drive and passion, which was noticeably absent from his tenure with the Detroit Pistons. He isn't an athletic player, he can't jump incredibly high, but his stroke hasn't left him, albeit it is a little rusty. Even in scrimmages, he seemed much more focused and willing to defend, which he wasn't in Detroit, but certainly was in Chicago.

People will say he's just a Bobcat, he isn't good, he must feel terrible. Ben disagrees. Ben looks at this as an opportunity to win games, something Charlotte hasn't done in a long time. Ben may even be the focal point of Charlotte's offense, spacing the floor and hitting shots.

First game of the season!

Bobcats surprise in home opener

Charlotte was a dog that never gave up in a fight. In the first quarter, Charlotte was keeping up with Indiana and gaining a slight lead at the end of the quarter, up by four, but Indiana came out of the second and brought the hammer out with them. Roy Hibbert, Pacers big man, went on a tear, gaping the lead to nine as things looked grim. Near the end of the second Charlotte made a push, catching up, only down five. The second half was a different story, as Charlotte took over the fourth with Kemba's great ball distribution, and having very swift hands, stealing the ball 3 times.

Both teams played very hard until Indiana got exhausted in the fourth quarter, Charlotte's defense got much tighter, and Indiana's perimeter defense got sluggish, as Ben Gordon hit a few threes in the quarter. Early in the fourth, big man Byron Mullens went on a tear and steamrolled through Hibbert until fouling out early in the quarter, leaving with an impressive twenty points, six boards.

Team Blog Notes

Ben Gordon had a great shooting night. It wasn't an issue for him to turn it on and off, and he was hitting shot after shot. It was a difficult night for Paul George, watching Gordon rain in a few threes - Gordon had 26 points, and he knew he was hot. Apparently Dunlap and Gordon got along this game very well.

Byron Mullens showed that he has potential to be elite. Had a very solid game, set hard screens, scored off of them, was rather effective from inside, and even hit a three. Byron was livid after the foul called on him in the 3rd, and was given a technical, you can tell he was happy to be doing so well.

Kemba had a quiet game, silent but deadly -- 11 assists, 4 steals, 11 points. Very interesting numbers. Running the show was no problem for him, dishing out assist after assist after assist after assist to players who aren't great scorers is a feat for a player like Kemba.

I see the Andrew inspiration (well only with the score at the top pretty much). I'll be following because this is nice and organized, but can't promise I'll read the whole recaps.
