Phoenix Suns - Rising From The Nashes (NBA 2K13)

Postby nickmailau on Sat Oct 13, 2012 2:41 pm

I am 17 years old, I enjoy writing, and I especially enjoy basketball. NBA 2K13 is easily the best basketball game I have ever played. I have owned NBA Live 06-10 and NBA 2K11-13, and loved all of them. I hope you enjoy my Association as much as I will.

New-look Suns open season with 114-110 win over the Golden State Warriors

After a blockbuster trade sent Phoenix's favourite Sun Steve Nash to their neighbours in Los Angeles, many wondered how the Phoenix Suns would perform without their inspirational leader. Gone were the days of the 7 Seconds Or Less era, and of the pick and roll that kept Phoenix at the top of the Western Conference for so long. Gone, were the days, of the long haired Canadian racing down the centre of the floor with a big man on one side and a three point shooter on the other.

A month ago, however, Suns coach Alvin Gentry remarked: "The guys are excited. We'll have a full month to get ready, before our first game against Golden State. You have got be in really great shape, and play the basketball you've been playing your whole life. We're going to be up-tempo", perhaps suggesting that once more we would see the Phoenix Suns run-n-gun their way through the NBA.

The Suns did exactly that as they opened the 2012-13 NBA season with a high-scoring win in a Pacific Division matchup with the Golden State Warriors.

Phoenix took control early as they ended the first quarter ahead 32-25, behind returning point guard Goran Dragic's 8 points and 6 assists. In a scene reminiscent of the previous season though, the bench would struggle in the first half of the second quarter, and though the starters would make an 8-0 run to end the half, Golden State would still win the quarter 25-24. Phoenix remained in the lead at the half, up 56-50.

Golden State weren't done there though. They dazzled in the third, hitting shot after shot on their way to a 36-21 third, with the majority of the points coming in a 18-2 run in the final five minutes. Phoenix's bench struggled to defend against the Golden State barrage, and Golden State's hot hand continued to begin the fourth quarter, with coach Gentry forced to call a timeout only a minute into the fourth. This proved to be a masterful move however, with starters Dragic and Beasley coming on to lead the way for a 37-24 fourth quarter and the 114-110 win.

The Sprite Uncontainable Game award went to Warriors rookie Harrison Barnes.
The Jordan Brand Player Of The Game award went to Suns point guard Goran Dragic.

KEYS TO THE GAME
-Jared Dudley was extremely efficient, playing 34 minutes (second only to Goran Dragic for the Suns) and putting up a +/- of 23. He put up 12 points on 5-7 shooting, and was 2-2 from the three point line. He also picked up 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks and 0 fouls to cap off a good night for the seventh year player out of Boston College.
- Michael Beasley went 5-5 and 4-5 from the free throw line in a 14 point fourth quarter, leading a Suns comeback after trailing by 9 at the end of the third.
- Shannon Brown was a key contributor off the bench, putting up 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in twenty one minutes.
- Harrison Barnes led the attack for Golden State, with 31 points (14-22 from the field) and 8 boards.
- Stephen Curry struggled to find his shot, going 3-15 in his first game for the Warriors after being injured for much of the 2011-12 season. The fourth year player, and former All-Rookie First Team selection did manage to pick up 11 assists.

I saved some video from the game on to my PS3, but I can't get online on it. Hopefully I'll be able to get some footage for the next game, or at least some pictures.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get saved replays from my PS3 to my laptop without having to upload it to Youtube from 2K13 itself?

Beasley hits game-winner at the buzzer; Suns defeat Pistons 102-100

The Phoenix Suns are now 2-0 for the 2012-13 season after a nailbiting win over the Greg Monroe-led Pistons.

Phoenix got out to an early start, hitting 5-5 three pointers in the first quarter on their way to a 29-21 lead, led by two each from point guard Goran Dragic and forward Michael Beasley. Like the previous game however, Phoenix's bench struggled to maintain control over the game, and when starters Marcin Gortat and Goran Dragic were substituted back on in the 3rd minute of the second quarter, they clung to a 31-30 lead. They would help to restore order to the game, and a late flurry from both teams had the scores in Phoenix's favour at the half, 53-49.

The Suns downfall in the second half was the lack of boxing out on the defensive end, and would give up 18 out of the Pistons 22 offensive rebounds in the second half alone. After a quite first half, Greg Monroe would explode in the third, scoring 12 of his 16 points in the third quarter. The Suns held only the slimmest of leads going into the fourth quarter, up 74-73.

The Suns bench started the fourth quarter, with only Wesley Johnson and Shannon Brown having scored any points for the second unit (12 and 8 respectively). Detroit would take their first lead of the match with a Tayshaun Prince bucket, and would hold the lead until the final minute of the game. By this time, starters from both teams were on the floor, and a Rodney Stuckey turnover with 44 seconds left in the game would lead to a Scola steal and a Goran Dragic layup on the other end, tying the scores at 100-100 with 38 seconds left. Again the young Pistons team would lack composure late, and after Tayshaun Prince missed a desperation heave with 14 seconds on the clock, the Suns had a chance to win the game.

After a timeout, the Suns ran an isolation play for Michael Beasley at the top. Beasley jab-stepped twice, pumpfaked and drove left, putting up a 21 footer at the buzzer over Prince's outstretched arm, and hit the shot.

The Suns were only the fifth team in history to hit 15 or more three pointers against the Detroit Pistons.

The Sprite Uncontainable Game award went to the Suns for their run in the first quarter.
The Jordan Brand Player Of The Game award went to Suns power-forward Luis Scola.

PHX: 102 (Beasley 26, Dragic 25, Scola 19)

KEYS TO THE GAME

Michael Beasley had perhaps the best all-around game of his career, with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Not only did he hit the game-winning buzzer beater, he continually sparked Suns scoring runs, not only through his scoring but also through the distribution of the ball.
Goran Dragic carried on his terrific performance against the Warriors with another spectacular one against the Pistons. Along with Beasley and Luis Scola, Dragic was the only consistent threat for the Suns all night, and he scored 25 points to go with his 11 assists and 4 rebounds.
Wesley Johnson was the Suns leading scorer off the bench, hitting three 3-pointers and collecting 8 rebounds (including 5 offensive).
The Suns three leading rebounders were all wing players: Jared Dudley, Wesley Johnson and Michael Beasley (11, 8 and 7 respectively).
Brandon Knight played a solid game, leading the Pistons with 22 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Rodney Stuckey played a terrible game, scoring only 4 points. He did play terrific defense against Jared Dudley and Shannon Brown, who only scored 12 points between them.

Thanks man, I'm a huge fan and they've put a fun team together this year so I thought I'd document my progress rather than just playing. And yeah, been trying to get KMarsh some playing time, but both games so far have been close ones, so no garbage time for him yet. Though the way Telfair has been playing, he might just get some court time soon.

Thanks again. "Nothing like a catchy title to attract the viewers" said a broadcaster somewhere.
