Season Length: 82

I will be doing a 4 game summary for most posts, but because 82 isn't divisible by 4 (without remainder), the post before and after the All-Star break will be 5 game summaries. I will also hopefully post monthly recaps and some news from the draft, rumor mill etc. every now and then.

The Thorn has been removed - big change in The City of Brotherly Love

PHILADELPHIA -- In what has been a surprise turn of events, Rob Thorn, now the ex-general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, was given the boot. After a rebound .500 season after a dismal 27-55 record in the 2010-'11 season, Rob Thorn was sacked for unknown reasons. The new general manager of the Sixers, a seemingly unknown man from Australia, was seen entering the Sixers headquarters in Philadelphia earlier today. A few hours later, he emerged alongside Joshua Harris, the majority owner of the team, and Adam Aron, the CEO. Aron announced the change in staff today, to what seemed to be a startled bunch of news reporters. After Thorn brought Collins in to coach the team, the team went from a 27-55 record to a perfect .500, going 41-41 throughout the season. The new general manager, Ryan Macdonald, commented on the direction he is heading with the club.

"The roster will involve slight changes, which will most likely be made towards the trade deadline. The roster that I can work with is very good, it is young, and full of potential. We have 3 solid guards who will be stars for years to come, a dominant, yet still young forward in Iguodala and some budding stars in Thaddeus (Young) and Spencer (Hawes). I won't be looking to make many changes, as this team is still rebuilding towards another championship. We have some good core players, and not many older players. We also have some expiring contracts that can be used up to sign young stars in Free Agency at the end of this year. Overall, it's definitely looking good."

He also commented on the change in staff, prospect scout Jim Jordan signed a 6YR/1.00M deal, Geoffrey McKinney was also hired on a 6YR/1.00M deal and James Graham was fired to make way for Tyson Cheeks, who has signed a contract exactly the same as the previously mentioned staff. Macdonald stated that the Sixers want as much out of the upcoming draft as possible, and these big changes that were made were done to accommodate this ambition. Only time will tell whether these changes have been made for the better, or for the worse....

4 Game Summary - Games 1 to 4

Sixers kick the season off in style

PHILADELPHIA -- The 76ers didn't waste time impressing their fans, dominating the visiting Miami Heat with a superb 102-90 win over one of the top ranked (on paper) teams. Jrue Holiday was the star of the show, going 11 from 16 attempts on his way to 28 points. He went 3-3 from deep, and amazingly, this was all done off of the bench. He achieved this stat line in a mere 18 minutes. He also had 4 assists and 2 steals. Spencer Hawes played primary big man for the Sixers, grabbing 11 boards and blocking 4 shots. Brackins also had a solid session coming off the bench, grabbing 5 boards and 2 steals in 8 minutes. Thaddeus Young, Lou Williams, Spencer Hawes and Iggy had double figures when it came to points, Young with 19, Williams with 16, Hawes with 14 and Iggy with 10. On the other side of the ball, Chalmers and Lebron James had a solid game. Chalmers had 27 points on 10-23 shooting, and also chipped in with 8 assists and a steal. Lebron had 24 points on 11-19 shooting, and had 10 boards and 2 steals. One stat that really killed the Heat was the lack of rebounding on their behalf, with only 28 rebounds for the Heat versus 40 for the Sixers, the second chance baskets really killed the Heat. Accuracy also let the Heat down, they were 39-85 compared to 45-84 from the field.

Stats:
Points: Jrue Holiday (28), Mario Chalmers (27) || Rebounds: Spencer Hawes (11), Lebron James (10) || Assists: Louis Williams (5), Mario Chalmers (8) || Steals: Louis Williams (3), Battier/Bosh/James/Wade (2) || Blocks: Spencer Hawes (4), Dwayne Wade (4)

Player of the Game: Jrue Holiday - 28 points, 4 assists and 2 steals

Other Games
Sixers vs Atlanta - 111-122 L
Sixers @ Indiana - 100-102 L
Sixers @ Washington - 101-92 W

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently sitting at 2-2 after 4 games. The Sixers have a tough 4 game schedule ahead, taking on the Pacers and Cleveland at home, and then going on the road to take on the Knicks in a division rivalry match, and then on to Oklahoma City to verse the Thunder, a very solid team. The feature game for this set of 4 will be against the New York Knicks, a must win game to be competitive in the division. The Knicks are currently sitting at 1-3, and will probably be 2-4 when the Sixers take them on at Madison Square Garden. They will be looking to win against Washington and put up a fight against the Bulls. The next summary will also include games against the Pacers, Oklahoma City and Cleveland.
