PROVING THEM WRONG - A Dallas Mavericks Association

Image

As he sat in his office banging away at his keyboard, A file on a young man caught his eye. Donnie found himself impressed by the resume of this "Manager" - so impressed that after looking further on, He quickly got on the phone.

"Mark here. What's on your mind?"

"Mark. it's Donnie. you gotta check this guy out - William Reynolds. He's been bouncing from league to league, taking jobs concerning Basketball Operations. CBA,NBL,PBA - Everywhere he's been, he's gotten results. This man's eye for talent is incredible and -"

"Lemme cut you off their Donnie, it's 3'o clock in the morning. could you kinda get to the point already?"

"Hire this guy. Let's give him a shot on the big stage - I just know it Mark. This guy's going to be brilliant."

"Alright, Let's discuss this later. When we're both completely awake alright?"

Days Later

"Hi, you must be William Reynolds - you probably know me already, but I'm Mark."

"Pleasure to meet you sir. I'd hate to be rude but you called about a job offer? I'd like to get to that as soon as possible."

"Right, right. I'll make this as quick as I can. Donnie recommended you to me, and I've seen your body of work. To be honest, I'm not really sure about this move but you're what? 33?"

"I'm 27 sir."

"What the hell? 27? What did you do, start at 5?"

"My father coached at the NBL. He handled front office activities for the teams he coached as well - He's taught me most of what I know and got me started on scouting when I was 16. I branched out from then."

"Hmm. 16 huh? You're an interesting kid. To be honest, I didn't know a thing about you before Donnie brought your name up. I still don't know much about you right now - But I think you're going to be an interesting addition to the team. We'll get further in to negotiations in about three days - that good with you?"

"That'd be great."

Assoc. Settings

Season Length: 29 Games
Playoffs: 1-1-1-1
Quarter Length: 8 Mins
Difficulty:All-Star(No, I'm really not all that good  )
Game: NBA 2k10(PC)
Roster:Kova's Free Agency

I'm gonna be honest right now, I'm not really all that good with photoshop and all but I'll try to make up for the lack of epic graphics with recaps as detailed as I can come up with.

This assoc starts somewhere in the offseason before Brendan Haywood and several other key free agents have signed. I decided to go for 29 games and 1 Win Playoff Series so that I can play through the full season without losing interest about 40 games in. I've started working about an hour ago and should post my first deals and recaps by tomorrow morning(I'm from the Philippines btw).

"Hey, you must be William Reynolds. Glad to finally have you on board - Good timing too. Off-season you know? Anyway, most of the major free-agents have signed but I think we still have enough assets to acquire enough pieces to push us over the top."

"Glad to be here too Donnie, I do agree with you - I do think we have enough pieces to take in a major talent but we'll probably lose two of our five starters by the time we're done but I think we'll be significantly better having done so."

"I'm listening, Uhm what should I call you?"

"Will should be fine. As I was saying.."

Mavericks complete sign-and-trade for Hawks' Joe Johnson

Joe Johnson was all smiles yesterday as the Hawk completed a sign-and-trade deal that would ship him along with Maurice Evans and returning Maverick, Josh Powell to Dallas. Said Joe Johnson, "I loved Atlanta and I appreciate the support and chance to lead that the Hawks have given me, But being in Dallas gives me the ideal situation of making money while I think, giving me a better chance to chase a title than with the Hawks." The Hawks acquired Jason Terry whom they drafted in 1999 with the 10th overall pick, former All-Star Shawn Marion, French Big-man Ian Mahinmi and a 2010 2nd round Draft Pick.

Quote Donnie Nelson, " We are saddened to lose Jason and Shawn who both were integral in last year's 15 game winning streak. But we couldn't give up the chance to pick up a second star to stand beside Dirk."

Mavs acquire DeRozan, Evans from Raptors

The Mavericks continued to make moves, sending J.J. Barea, DeShawn Stevenson, the recently acquired Maurice Evans and a 2010 1st round Draft Pick of to Toronto. They recieved the Athletic Demar DeRozan and veteran Reggie Evans in exchange.

"We're very excited to have added Demar to our team. We here at Dallas think that his ability to get to the rim will open up many options for our Mavericks and his upside is too great to overlook. We look forward to having him here for many years to come." said Donnie Nelson of the trade.

Mavs end flurry of moves by Acquiring Travis Outlaw from the Nets

Disappointed by being overlooked by the upper class of free agents, The Nets decided to save their Cap Space for another year shipping Travis Outlaw to the Mavericks in exchange for the expiring contracts of Tim Thomas and Reggie Evans. The Nets also recieved the option to swap 2011 1st round Draft Picks with the Mavericks if the Mavs' pick falls in the Top 15.

I decided to post the deals that i had going on before leaving for the night.

@Houndy, I've messed around with a few Mavs Assocs, I've traded Terry reluctantly for most but I've never had Tyson holding out before. thanks, BTW.

@antho, That's what I plan on doing seeing as Kidd is likely to retire after this year. Managed to take in DeRozan to play along him in the future - I must admit, I'm rather excited by that back court duo. Thanks as well, hope my work strikes your fancy.

Mavs add forwards DerMarr Johnson and Nick Fazekas to lineup, send Rookie Dominique Jones and Center Alexis Aijinca to the Albuquerque Thunderbirds

ImageImage

After performing in a series of workouts - some of which Dallas stars, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd participated in themselves - DerMarr Johnson and Nick Fazekas were given two of the last three spots in the Dallas Mavericks roster. "I'm glad to be back in the NBA, especially with the team that brought me here in the first place. I'll do my best to make good of this second chance" said Fazekas minutes after the contract signing. DerMarr Johnson was just as excited, quoted saying " To be honest, I didn't even know they were considering me before I got called up for this. I mean, to get a shot while playing for one of the league's premier teams? That's just about as good as it gets."

Mavs Season Opener

Mavericks overcome Dirk's Struggles, beat Kings by 11

Image

80-91

Despite Dirk shooting only 7 for 21 from the field the whole game, The Mavericks kept there distance from the Kings almost the whole game with 3 of the other starters scoring in double figures.

Caron Butler showed what most thought he lacked for most in last year's series against the Spurs, taking it hard to the basket at just about every opportunity. Joe Johnson, though fully acknowledging that he will not be option number one in this team scored in a variety of ways, wrestling away a third quarter surge by the Kings which saw Dallas seem helpless in defending a series of alley-oops set by Tyreke Evans. Jason Kidd was the catalyst for the Mavericks' early breakaway - making good on his first three 3-pointers. He also worked perfectly with Centers Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood on the pick-and-roll where the Kings' lack of size was greatly exposed. The Centers combined 7 for 8 under the basket.

Rodrigue Beaubois made good of his time off the bench, hitting four straight shots after missing his first. Beaubois also had 4 assists. DeRozan and Outlaw both seemed to struggle in the set offense to no surprise as they haven't had the time to learn the offense, but both shined on their opportunities on the fast-break, displaying the speed and athleticism that Dallas coveted in them.

Dirk was not the only star that had his struggles that game. While shooting .500 for the whole game, Tyreke Evans shot only 3 for 10 from deep and seemed to settle instead of taking it hard to the hoop, disrupting the defense where Dallas seemed to have problems answering. Carl Landry shot 7 for 8 but struggled to get into scoring position for most of the game. Donte Greene and Samuel Dalembert both added 12 points for the Kings.

Jason Kidd gave a scare as he crumpled to the floor after challenging a Tyreke Evans drive with about 3 minutes left in the game, but returned to the floor with a minute left to close the game. Further information about the injury shall be disclosed as the information becomes available.

Re: Mavericks Defeat Kings, Kidd Suffers Injury - PTW

Postby kidgravity on Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:08 pm

Sorry for the late update. I had this game played earlier this afternoon but then my PC crashed and after I was done swearing my guts out, I was too tired to play it again at that time(I'm sick at the moment).

@Houndy, I've messed around with 'Nique a little but seeing as I've got most of my rotation spots locked up, I didn't want him getting pissed at me. so D-League for him right now. But I'll bring him up when he hits 66 or 67 overall.

@Durantula, Roddy has been awesome for me, although I've yet to get his jumper straightened out. Kidd is fully healed from the injury, just in time for the Memphis game, but I plan on giving Roddy a start - may be give him a shade under 3 quarters.

Travis Outlaw headed to Washington in Three-Player trade

Travis Outlaw has only had one game with the Dallas Mavericks under his belt. Unfortunately, he probably won't have a chance to add more for quite a while as he heads to Washington along with DerMarr Johnson in exchange for Nick Young. "Travis Outlaw was great for us in the game against the Kings, but when we saw the chance to add a young dynamic wing in Nick Young, we couldn't pass it up." DerMarr Johnson could not be reached for comments, but seeing as he was only added to the trade to make the numbers work(Dallas only had 12 Players at the time), DerMarr Johnson could be headed back to Dallas sometime mid-season or next season.

Mavs add Guard Fred Jones, Forward David Noel

ImageImage

The Mavericks added Fred Jones and David Noel to the lineup after opening extra spots following DerMarr Johnson's trade to Washington. Both were inked to 1-Year Minimum Contracts.

The Mavericks were also rumoured to be in talks with Fred Jones and David Noel to fill the back end of the roster. Fred Jones is a 6'2 Shooting Guard who last played in the NBA for the L.A. Clippers. He was also the 2004 Dunk Contest Champion. David Noel was last with the Dallas Mavericks in Las Vegas but signed with the Milwaukee Bucks for the rest of the year. he has not played in the NBA since.

Grizzlies can't overcome Mavs Size, Lose 78-92

Image

78-92

After a horrible shooting performance at Sacramento, Dirk bounced back in almost perfect fashion shooting 8 for 8 from the field but missing one from the charity stripe.

From the start, the Mavs went firing, leading by 15 at the end of the first. Rodrigue Beaubois got the start in place of Jason Kidd in efforts to rest Kidd's twisted ankle. Beaubois responded by making 4 from downtown and dishing out 9 assists. Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood locked up the paint, limiting the Grizzlies to 29% shooting in the 3rd Quarter while making good of their own shot attempts. Jason Kidd continued to nail his threes, making both his attempts.

Nick Young led the charge off the bench, scoring 15 points on 6 for 8 shooting, showing the speed and athleticism that was expected when the deal for him was made. Young abused the Grizzlies defense, taking it hard to the hoop and taking only one jumper the whole game. "Coach Rick just gave me the signal to go for it and I think I did well enough."

Rudy Gay lit up the scoreboard for 28 points. Mike Conley and Marc Gasol also hit double figures but the rest of the Grizzlies struggled to gain any scoring momentum. O.J. Mayo shot only 3 for 12, chucking threes like there was no tomorrow. Zach Randolph managed 3 from 8 but never really made his presence felt.

Jason Kidd is expected to reclaim his starting spot in the next game against the Orlando Magic.

Not to be a guy to criticize, but you should try keeping the Majority of Players. Only 6 of your 12 are from the original team. Well I did Trade away JJ Barea, want to trade Terry and Chandler, Marion and Stevenson, so we're even

I was trying to make out what the Mavs would be standing had they swung for the fences, throwing assets for the coveted second superstar. And I'm considering upping the difficulty - it seems to be getting a little to easy for me right now.

Mavs Ride Dirk's Near Triple-Double, Beat Magic[3-0]

Mavs ride Dirk's near Triple-Double, Beat Magic down the stretch

Image

93-85

After leading the whole game, The Orlando Magic faltered down the stretch, allowing the Mavericks' sharpshooters to rain threes en route to a 32-19 4th Quarter.

Vince Carter rained jumpers on the Mavericks for the first three quarters while Chris Duhon provided a spark off the bench for the Magic. Dwight Howard defended the paint, denying any easy lay-ups and drawing two charges on Joe Johnson at one point.

Tyson Chandler silently provided scoring, getting 16 off putbacks and feeds under the basket. But Dirk Nowitzki kept the Mavericks in it all game long, scoring inside and drawing the key double-teams that allowed Joe Johnson,Jason Kidd and Caron Butler to make threes on 5 consecutive possessions, turning it all around in the last few minutes of the game.

Jason Kidd's hot hand carried on from the previous games, hitting a pair of mid-range jumpers to start the game. Caron Butler meanwhile was cold for most of the game, starting 1 for 6, but hit a three and a contested lay-up in the fourth to seal the game for the Mavericks.

Vince Carter and Jameer Nelson both missed key three pointers that would have kept the Magic behind only by two, 1 minute left on the clock.
