10/28/09 - Pierce's 37 leads C's Past Cleveland

Image

The Quicken Loans Arena fell silent after a fantastic performance by the Truth sent their team on a losing streak to start their season. Kevin Garnett managed to prove his critics wrong by putting up 12 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks, proving that he hasn't missed a step due to his injury late last year. Perkins also put up an impressive 7 rebounds and unusual 8 assists, showing that this year, the Celtic front court will be a forced to be reckoned.

Pierce also proved to be an underrated defender, as he kept King James down to only 12 points. However, Lebron made up for his lack of scoring by averaging 7 rebounds and 8 assists, passing to Delonte West and Mo Williams, each with the hot hand and averaging 24 and 27 points respectively. On the boards, both Shaq and Ilgauskas proved to be a force, putting up a combined 24 rebounds. When asked about the loss during the postgame interview, coach Mike Brown assured fans that their were still 81 games left in the season and that they were "still in for a very special season".

10/29/09 - KG earns double-double in home opener

Image

The Celtics would not be denied in the TD Banknorth Garden last night as a pumped KG led the team to their first home win and a 2-0 start to their season. With 24 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks, the Big Ticket led the C's to a 14 point lead in the first quarter, one in which they would sustain for the entire game. Paul Pierce also had a fantastic night on both sides of the court averaging 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals and blocks, only behind KG in scoring. Rajon Rondo once again had a great passing night with 9 assists along with 4 points and a rare block.

The Bobcats struggled to do much on the offensive end, as none of their players managed to make it above 20 points. However, both Chandler and Diaw managed to dominate the boards with 12 and 13 rebounds respectively. Among his 12 rebounds, Chandler managed to score 19 points, averaging a triple double almost matching the fantastic performance of KG. During the postgame interview, Larry Brown praised the duo of Perkins (who also averaged 9 rebounds) and Garnett for "their dominance on the boards" but was also proud of how well his own duo fared against them.
