Rate my roster

Postby Filipe R. on Wed Jan 21, 2009 10:18 pm

I started playing in Association mode with Memphis. I made a couple of changes in the roster and made the playoffs in the first season. In the second season things were not going well and i made severe changes to my roster and now my starting five is:

PG Michael Conley
SG OJ Mayo
SF Rudy Gay
PF Emeka Okafor
C Dwight Howard

I am quite happy with my starting five, its a young team with a great future ahead. The problem is the remaining roster, since i do not have quality substitutes. To make things worst the morale is low, the chemestry is 0% and the substitute players are missing every shot. The other players are:

PG: Chris Duhon (3.5M salary)
SG: Rashad McCants (6.0M salary)
SF: Jeff Green (3.5M salary)
SF: Donte Green (1.1M salary)
PF: Jialian Yi (3.2M salary)
PF: David Lee (7.5M salary)
PF: 2009 Rookie (2.0M salary)
C: Brook Lopez (3.2M salary)

Can you give me some help. Do i have a quality bench? What should i do, keep this roster and wait that the performance gets better. Make some trades and improve the quality of my roster? I can trade Conley + Lee for Devin Harris and a 1st draft choice.

Thanks for your help

First, how you get Okafor, Yi, Duhon and the others?

Second, a lot of trades ALWAYS affects your chemistry, while less trades, more chemistry, that's ethic

Pretty nice starting 5, but your bench is a mess

You have too many guys on the bench that could start on other teams. Try to get real role players who dont care about playing time and can step in and help you. The Harris trade would be a good one since you get rid of Lee who doesnt like sitting on the bench and Conley who is clearly worse than Harris.

Thank you for your answers.

It is difficult to wrap up the changes in my roster, since i am in the second season and have made a lots of changes. SInce the Grizzlies had cap room available of 13M i signed with several free agents well rated (Livingstone, Magloire, and two more) and started to make trades. Besides these free agents i traded in the begining of the first season Lowry, Jaric, Buckner, Walker and Crittenton.

I brought in Nelson, Chandler, McCants, Pietrus, Okafor. Since Milicic was playing bad and was upset with his role i traded him for Nene.

In the begining of the second season i traded Pietrus for Julian Wright and Rasual Butler, Nene for Bogut, Gasol and Rasual Butler for Batum and a 1st and 2nd picks and finally i signed with Millsap.

Once more the team was having an average season with eight wins and eight losses and i changed a lot my roster:
Gay, Bogut, Millsap for Dwight Howard and a 2009 rookie
Chandler and Batum for Lee, Jeff Green and Duhon
Nelson for Yialian, Brook Lopez and a Rookie
I trade Nets rookie for Donte Green
and finally i recovered Gay by giving away , Arthur and Wright to the Magics

It is easy to understand why chemistry is 0%.

I am not so sure about Conley trade. I have been training him and he has improved a lot, besides he is younger and cheaper than Harris. I think i will wait for the offseason to trade Lee for a 1st draft pick, which will give me room to pick a good SF in the free agency period.

Any other comments, suggestions to put in order my roster

Man

You're the Donie Walsh of videogames...

An Advise: if your team is 8-8 don't rush to trade, try another strategy, of move your lineup, make one minor trade (maybe a scoring guard from the bench) but now that your chemistry is 0 your team will play far from beauty, if you see that they fail easy shots, you know why: CHEMISTRY

Just to update my association.

I made the playoffs. In the first round i beat the Blazers 4-1, then the Lakers 4-2 and in the Conference Finals the Rockets 4-1. Now i am playing the NBA finals against the Bucks and I am leading 2-0.

I am playing amazingly well, however i have some irritated players that are lowering the roster's morale.

Brook Lopez -12, Lee -4, Jeff Green -5 and Yialian Yi -7.

Do you think i should keep these players or should i trade them in the offseason. I can not give them more playing time that they are getting neither a different role, since my starting five is quite good.

I have some ideas for trades, for example bring in Noah and Speights (both 76'ers players) for Lopez and Yi;
Trade Conley + Lee + Green for Chris Paul;

Alternatively i can trade the players for top5 1st draft picks. This would give me some cap room and i think rookies would not be unpleased for being role players and play at least one quarter per game.

Any suggestions?

u almost have a allstar starting 5 and a damn good bench. At least 5 of your benchies are Starters in other teams, so definitely they wont be happy playing 2nd fiddle.

I think getting players that are laid back should help you more as they are 'laid back' and complain less. For eg players like Thabo Sefolosha, Kwame Brown, Kendrick Perkins, Larry Hughes, Gerald Green, Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas I find are good players to come off the bench and they are usually happy with playing less than 15-20 minutes per game.
