New York suffers second straight defeat as the Rockets win it after OTNew York @ Houston/122-127November, 2008
HOUSTON (AP) --
Yao Ming lead the Rockets to their 3rd straight win as they defeated the downgrading Knicks in Overtime. The game will stay remembered by the crushing 2 handed dunk by Chandler. The dunk sent T-Mac to the ground.
The Rockets were leading most of the game, mostly because Yao who led them on his shoulders with 38 points and 15 rebounds. The Center spot is proving to be a big problem, as
David Lee, our current center, is way too short for that position. He couldn't guard Yao the first half, as he picked up 4 fouls. Lee eventually finished the game with 16 points and 11 boards. The key to success for Houston was their high shooting percentage. They shot 57 percent from the field, and 42 from beyond the arc.
Tracy McGrady scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half, helping Yao to lead the Rockets to the win. But it wasn't all that simple. In the fourth quarter the Knicks role players woke up.
Danilo Gallinari scored the teams last 9 points as he gave them the lead 111-96 in the 4th several minutes before the end. But Yao sparked the Rockets as tehy then went on a 13-0 run, being behind just by 2 points 2 seconds before the end. As the Rockets had the inbounds (timeout) in offense, all players were trying to keep Yao away from the basket, they tried so much that they have forgotten about
Carl Landry who sneaked past the defense and hit the open layup with 0.6 left on the clock to send the game to Overtime.
In Overtime,
Shane Battier lead the Rockets to their 6th win of the season, as he scored a total of 20 points in the whole game. "It was a very tough game, if we didn't have Yao, I doubt we would win"- Shane said. The Knicks have a lot of things to worry about as they travel to Dallas, to try and stop the 7-foot sharpshooter
Dirk Nowitzki.
