Lost Legacy | Prologue

PROLOGUE
It was a game at home, everyone at the Toyota center was silent. The Rockets were trailing by 2 points with 9 seconds left on the clock. It was their possession, they inbounded it at halfcourt. The ball was given to Lin, the whole starting five was on the court. They moved the ball around until it was eventually given back to Lin with 3 seconds remaining. He passed it to Harden who was wide open, he shoots it with less than a second left on the clock. It counted, and went it. It was one of Harden's best moments of his career.
The crowd was cheering, all the all players on the bench was in awe. Harden has just hit the game-winning shot right at the buzzer. The whole team ran to hug him. It was like nothing to him, since it was still the pre-season. They still had 82 games to play at the start of the season. Kevin McHale said that he would be given more minutes because of this game, and that he saw lots of potential in him.
"Whatever." Harden said.
The Rockets finished the pre-season without a loss at home or on the road. The owner was glad, But he felt like the current GM, Daryl Morey, wasn't doing much and was doing any good. The team's wins were because of McHale and the team itself. Morey wasn't always there when you needed him. He has been arrested several times, once was accused for the use of drugs, Alexander didn't know why he didn't fire him yet.
Hakeem Olajuwon was watching the game at his home, sitting in his big, comfy, sofa. He was happy about the the Rocket's development as a team. He missed playing for them, remembering all the things he had achieved in that team. He sighed, grabbed the bottle of wine, and drank it straight up. He sat back, switching the channel to HBO. He fell asleep after a couple of minutes. He woke up and noticed that his phone was ringing, it was an unknown number.
"Hello, is this Hakeem Olajuwon?" said an unknown man.
"Yes, may I know who this is?" he replied.
"I'm the owner of the Houston Rockets, I'm sorry for bothering you but I need to tell you something important, perhaps we could meet somewhere."
"I know you, you're Leslie Alexander right? I would agree but I need to know what we'll be talking about."
"We're thinking of signing you as our new GM, only if you accept. We'd understand if you'd rather not."
"The new GM for the Rockets? I think I would I'll accept even without us meeting."
"That's great, we'll contact you as soon as possible. We'll be in touch."
"Yes, thank you for calling."
