Top Storyline --- Battle of New York to Open the 2012-13 Season
Brooklyn, NY - Due to the warning of Hurricane Sandy, the Nets didn't even know if they'd play their home opener tonight.
While that ceased, Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith made it rain in the gym anyways, combining for 52 points and 6-of-12 shooting from deep to notch a
95-85"It's one game out of 82," Carmelo Anthony said. "We just need to keep looking forward, and not getting to attached to the first win."
Still, it must feel good to grab the first win of the year, especially when it comes with the bragging rights of New York, but will it be that way when they meet on December 11th?
Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 35 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds, including 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Amar'e Stoudemire put in 18 points and 9 rebounds, and J.R. Smith added 17 points to the scoring sheet.
Iman Shumpert played his first game following the Torn ACL injury that he took in Game 1 of the Playoffs against Miami, and he was
very rusty; 6 points on 3-of-11 shooting, and he admitted to it in the press conference following the road win.
"I have some kinks I gotta work out," Shumpert said. "My defense is back top-notch, but my offensive has some work to do following the torn ACL."
As for the Nets, Deron Williams, Marshon Brooks, and Kris Humphries were the only players worth promising games, as Williams had 21 points, Brooks had 10 points, and Humphries stuffed in 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Joe Johnson was very disappointing in his first game, 13 points, despite 9 points coming in the 4th, and he shot on 5-of-15, shooting far too bombastic. They have to rebound, which will be a good one, facing a decent Raptors team.
As for the Knicks, they battle a brutal month, of all Playoff teams the first two weeks, including the majority of their tough games coming on the road.
