BEHIND THE SCENES

Chapter 1: A New Era (Of Incompetence)

Nobody knew why he was there. Sitting at the back of Madison Square Garden on draft night was 19 year old Liam Washburn, a man no taller than 5'11" (with shoes, on a good day) with no chance of being selected.

Nonetheless, Liam applied for the draft after a season at UW where he barely played after making the team as a last-second walk-on. When telling his teammates and coach of his intent to enter the draft, he was met with laughter. After 60 selections, the least regarded prospect in the entire draft was not taken. When asked by one of the few reporters still there after the draft, he joked "I couldn't get the paperwork done to change my name to Anthony Davis before the draft".

Of course Liam knew he wouldn't get drafted. He saw the first general manager he recognized, praised the Spurs, and after five minutes had an internship with a real NBA team. "You know, I hate to be this cynical, but if we hired Don Nelson, we'd get a top five pick and inflate the value of our bad players."

"Don't try your luck, kid."

The next few months seemed to fly by, and before Liam knew it, the NBA season was tipping off in a couple weeks, and he had just been named assistant general manager. Coming in early with donuts is the key to climbing the NBA corporate ladder it seems. The team owner tossed him a pair of keys.

"I get a company car?!"

"Not exactly."

Liam wrode out of the arena that day on Javale McGee's old segway.

Liam and the GM were having drinks and watching a pre-season game. "You know Liam, I think this just might be a playoff team."

"Really?"

"No."

Hype this... I think the team is Washington

You might be right, they're pretty incompetent :P

Excited about this one. Is it going to have a similar format to Brick by Brick (ie: simmed regular season)? Because I found that to be really effective and there was a lot of potential for longevity if NBA 2k13 wasn't so good.

If it's Washington, you should sign Birdman (if he's a free agent) and reunite him with Nene :)

Just use my same NLSCer app from last time if you can, or if I feel inspired to I'll make a new guy.

Looking forward to this one. I already PMed you about the NLSC profile. Well, if it's Washington, then you will definitely have to face some losses. Still ,Beal is the kind of player I think you can develop well (I remember a story where you had Eric Gordon and made him an All-Star ... is this right or am I confused?)

Re: Lamrock's NBA 2K13 Association (obviously a working titl

Wed Nov 07, 2012 5:15 am

dare, I knew everybody would think that, but no, it's not Washington.

badreligionau, I like 2K13 a lot better than 2K12. As such, I'm probably on pace to play each team once, then switch to the Brick By Brick format for subsequent seasons. I ended up playing quite a few regular season games in the final season of Brick by Brick once the multiverse was created though.

Cavs4872, Looking for new players in this, sorry. I've been using the same set of draftee profiles since 2K10. Would love to have you again as a participant though!

hova-, EG was good, but it was all Baron Davis until the big man 3pt glitch ruined my Clippers story. I did make Beal an all-star though.

I currently have 7 NLSC profiles on file. There will be 10 NLSC players in the 2013 draft. For the next spot in the draft (if you have your profile in, please don't answer), which team am I using? (hint: not the Wizards)

I'm torn between Portland and Golden State. I'll say its Portland.

Dammit I was hoping I'm wrong, I'm planning to use this team. Also I think Thierry was going to use this team as well

Don't let me stop you. Portland is the best association team this year, and I just so happen to be a fan. Couldn't resist. :P

Lillard is a beast! Love those underdog guys from small schools, who just tear it up. My favorite for ROY and is he can keep up his play, he can get it.

I think two Blazers stories can coexist... In any case, I always have a Plan B  Good luck man!

Blazers Hold On Against Lakers Behind Aldridge's 40
Portland 101, Los Angeles 100

October 31, 2012 - The Trailblazers entered their season opener against the new-look Los Angeles Lakers as overwhelming underdogs. However, LaMarcus Aldridge and company had different plans. Portland came out of the gates with far more energy and took a double digit lead in the first quarter.

Kobe went to work, and the Lakers' dominant rebounding kept them in the game. With Steve Nash struggling and surprisingly in foul trouble, Portland was able to hold on to their lead, trailing just once by one point in the third quarter. LaMarcus Aldridge was dominant throughout, sinking the game-sealing free throw and scoring 40 points on incredible 16-20 shooting.

Kobe and Dwight Howard had very good outings for the Lakers, but received little help from Pau Gasol or their bench. The Blazers meanwhile enjoyed very solid play from rookies Damian Lillard and Meyers Leonard. Portland starts the season 1-0 and will travel to Oklahoma City for their next game.

WEEK ONE - Oct. 31 - Nov. 4
Record: 1-2 (1-2) | T-4th in division

The Portland Trailblazers season opened with a huge win at the Rose Garden over the new-look Lakers. However, things went south as they hit the road, losing close games to the Thunder and Rockets. LaMarcus Aldridge has played well though, averaging 27.7 points and 10.3 rebounds through three games.

11/2/12 - Trail Blazers 97 @ Thunder 102
Blazers Fall To Thunder Despite Valiant Effort

The Portland Trailblazers lost their first game of the season against the much maligned Oklahoma City Thunder, but one can not place the blame on Aldridge, who nearly posted a 20-20 game. OKC jumped out to a strong lead in the first half but couldn't put away the Blazers until the fourth quarter. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 29 points.

POR [1-1] 21 23 27 26 | 97 | Aldridge: 22 pts, 19 rebs
OKC [1-1] 25 30 19 28 | 102 | Durant: 29 pts, 8 rebs

Blazers Go Cold In Fourth, Fall To Rockets
11/3/12 - Blazers 96 @ Rockets 102

Despite very solid performances from Aldridge, Batum and Lillard, the Blazers couldn't get it done in Houston. After falling behind early, Portland hung in there to take a lead in the third quarter. However, the Rockets outplayed them in the fourth, forcing Portland to take outside shots.

Houston was up by 11 with 40 seconds left, but some very spirited play cut the deficit to 4 with just 10 seconds to go. Unfortunately, the Blazers luck from three ran out and the Rockets would hold on to win it 102-96. Jeremy Lin had a sensational game, overshadowing teammate Kevin Martin's 35 points with a near triple double.
