“ Mitch Kupchak told the Lakers today that he would be stepping down as GM. He said he will be retiring indefinitely to deal with family issues. In the meantime, Jerry Buss and the Lakers have spoke with Portland Trailblazer assistant GM Lance Kingston. No word as of yet if he will be the hire, but sources say an agreement could be reached by later this week."

This is all so new to me... I mean, being an assistant is one thing, but running the defending champs with no help? I was actually kind of hoping I wouldn't get the job. I was comfortable in Portland, and even more comfortable in my job as assistant. I mean.... what does Jerry Buss want to hire a 33 Year Old GM Assistant for? Well... I guess it is what it is and its time for me to shape up. If I didn't want the job, I shouldn't have went to the interview... and I shouldn't have negotiated a deal. This may not be what I want, but it's what I need and in order to get comfortable again I have to succeed here.

Phil : Lance... its Phil (Jackson)
Lance : Hey, how you doing Phil?
Phil : Good, good..... I was just wondering if you've been able to take a look at that cap yet?
Lance : Um.... I was actually just un-packing Phil, I haven't had a chance yet.
Phil : Don't you have an assistant for that?
Lance : Um.. Yeah, I do... but he doesn't start until tomorrow?...
Phil : Alright.... when you have time..... sometime today,... take a look at the roster and salary cap. We need to straighten some things out. Im not liking some of the play right now in summer camp and it looks like we'll need to place some people on the block and see if we gain some interest from around the league.
Lance : You think making a trade this early is smart? I think we should hold back until at least the season starts.
Phil : No, no.... were not going to trade anyone.... but we need to see whats available for later down the road.
Lance : Ok... I'll take a look today and give you a call back.
Phil : Ow... I won't be here.
Lance : ?? So.... I will call you tomorrow?
Phil : Nah... call me back tonight and leave me a message... I'll check it when I have time. Were taking a 4 day break from camp, and myself and Bill Walton are going white water rafting, hiking, and camping up in the Cascade's. Its a spiritual retreat,.... I'll see ya when I get back.
Lance : Sure...??
Phil : You should come sometime.... what are you doing tonight?
Lance : Im un-packing.... and looking at the roster?
Phil : Oh... yeah, well its to bad your busy, these spiritual retreats are a blast,... there a real eye opener. Maybe next time when your not so busy you can come.
Lance : Yeah.... sure thing Phil... ??

Is it just me or is that guy fucking weird? I knew he was a little out there.... kind of a hippy.... but I didn't know I could get high by just listening to him talk. *Breaths in, Breaths out*.... ok... now to get back on track. I have to finish unpacking and then take a look at the cap / roster and find players we can move..... looks like a long night.

Good luck with this one man. Do you really wanna trade anyone? This is a championship team -> no need to make any moves imho. Just play and win!
