Seattle Sonics in Phoenix (Game 1 - October 31st)
O'Neal - THE UNSTOPPABLE
First game for Seattle Sonics. A bit nervous start. Phoenix took the lead immediatly.
"We just couldn't keep up! The injuries were killing us tonight!" - said the new GM of Seattle.
Wilcox got injured for the rest of the game.
It wasn't so bad because Marshall really had a good game but however Marshall got injured too. And when he came back, he had lost the spark. Luckily none of the injuries were serious.
By the time Shaq had fireworks! Dunking, blocking, rebounding! Not Collison, not Wilcox, not Marshall, not Petro, not Swift, not Elson could stop him. He was unstoppable. So he earned the games MVP title.
"We stopped Nash but it's not a big consolation." - GM of Sonics told us.
Really! All what Nash made was the first three-pointer in the game! He really had a nightmare.
Bell did a nice job in scoring. It was a while while Seattle could think something how to contain Bell.
Amare wasn't himself today also. Looked like Sonics did their homework and managed to cover Nash and Amare but forgot about Shaq.
Durant had a good first game. Team-mates gave him the ball. It paid off.
He scored 24 points (3/6 from downtown). However GM was a bit surprised by another player.
"Well Jeff (Green) had a really good game! His high percentage shooting is really outstanding! It gave me some things to think over. Because putting him as a starter not Donyell, was a hard decision for me. But it paid off! " - smiled the coach.
Green had 17 points 8/11 field goal shooting.
"Well we had hope in the half 'cause we were loosing only by 4, but you saw what happened! The third quarter... We never could "stand up" again! " - said the coach.
Terrible ball handling skills resulted in ton of turnovers. (9 for PHX and 24 for STL)
Here is the boxscore:
