Hey guys, I have decided to make an Indiana Pacers dynasty. Hopefully, I can keep updating it and such, and I hope that you guys will like the presentation. By the way, I am using EA’s default rosters because I don’t want to import anyone else’s roster right now. I am redoing the 2006 Draft too.

Indiana Pacers 2006 Draft Preview
Indianapolis, IN - The Pacers have a history of concealing who they really want in the draft. In previous years, the Pacers have even used subtle lies to try and get the player that they truly want. Even so, other league general managers consider the Donnie Walsh and Larry Bird as some of the smarter front office workers in the league. When asked who they were considering to draft, Bird said, “We are taking the best player that fits with our team and what we need, regardless of who else may be left.” From that statement, one could conclude that a better playmaker is needed and possibly some more bulk on their frontline, considering that starting PF Jermaine O’Neal missed some games last year and the reserves had a little trouble on deciding who would lead their offense. Shooting is also a concern for the current team.

Indiana Pacers in Training Camp - Preview
Indianapolis, IN - Everyone is breathing hard and sweat is pouring off of their bodies. Empty bottles of Gatorade litter their practice court. It is definitely the Pacers’ training camp again. When asked why the Pacers have so many players on the roster, head coach Rick Carlisle said “We’re in need of some competition and some more bodies in camp. We simply want to see who competes and works hard, as well as fit in well with the team. Obviously, we did not achieve the level of chemistry that we would’ve liked last year, but we’re trying to fix that right now.” The people that figure to be fighting for a spot on the Pacers roster include John Edwards, Orien Greene, Rawle Marshall, Josh Powell, J.J. Redick, and Daniel Gibson. “Every spot is up for grabs right now, not just for those players.” said Johnny Davis, one of the Pacers’ assistant coaches. “In addition to the skill of the players, we’re taking into account their character, effort, and their chemistry with other players. Admittedly, some of these guys showed that they don’t belong.” Larry Bird, who sat in at one of the Pacers’ recent training sessions, said, “We already have some plans in the works to help this franchise head towards the right direction.” We can only wait and see what happens to the Pacers.

Indiana Pacers - Transaction Update
Indianapolis, IN - The Indiana Pacers have completed numerous transactions this summer. The Pacers have signed draft picks SG J.J. Redick and PG Daniel Gibson, as well as exercised their options on SF Danny Granger and C David Harrison. In addition, they have signed and traded SF Peja Stojakovic to New Orleans/Oklahoma for C Andrew Betts. Also, they have signed PG Orien Greene, and traded PF Austin Croshere to Dallas for SG Marquis Daniels. In a separate trade with Dallas, the Pacers have traded PG Anthony Johnson for PG Darrell Armstrong, Rawle Marshall, and Josh Powell. PF Maceo Baston was also signed by the Pacers. Lastly, the Pacers have signed SF Sean Lampley and PG Jimmie Hunter.
My take on the Pacers summers (with even more moves possible)? The Pacers are trying to bring in extra bodies into camp to fire up the competition level, as well as find out who they really want to keep on the team. This summer, the Pacers should be trying to eradicate the bad memories from the “Malice at the Palace” incidence. Even so, the Pacers may decide that talent is better than character, and keep some of their current pieces. All in all though, the roster is still not set in stone and may see more changes.

Indiana Pacers Finalize Personnel, Roster, and Other
Indianapolis, IN - The Pacers have finalized their roster today, as well as announce their new coach, general manager, and starting lineup. Rick Carlisle will take over as the head coach for the Indiana Pacers, and will later hire assistants and scouts. In addition, there will be a new Pacers General Manager, Johnny Li. He has watched the Pacers the last few years, and Donnie Walsh decided to hire him after former GM Larry Bird gave Walsh his consent. “I don’t need that much stress in my life right now, but I still want to be around this organization and basketball,” said Larry Bird, who has been moved to Assistant General Manager. “All I am going to do is advising Johnny on what moves to make, who to take in the draft, and who’s doing well or not so well within the organization” said Bird. When asked if any changes would be made to the roster, Li replied “As of right now, we’ll probably see how the team progresses and if need to make any tweaks to our roster. But then again, you never know. I’ll have to sit in on some practices just to see how the team is doing so far.” “He may not have the credentials that some people are looking for in a general manager, but I think he’ll do fine. Before he attained his current position, he was one of the team’s advisors, and often saw events unfold before they happened and suggested some ideas, but I guess Larry and I were too stubborn,” said a beaming Walsh. An anonymous source confirmed what Walsh said and also added that Li was a bit of a “behind-the-scenes guy.” Li has just hired Assistant Head Coach Rafael Perez, Assistant Carlos Gill, Scout Fernando Pardo, and Trainer Javier Rubio. Below, you’ll find an up-to-date depth chart of the Pacers. Click to enlarge the chart.
When Li announced the starting lineup, he gave his reasons on why the players were positioned where they are and about how much time in game will be granted to them. “He was very involved in the process of determining our lineup and minutes, he’s a very hands-on guy. We are definitely lucky to have him aboard our organization,” said head coach Rick Carlisle. When asked why they had two rookies and a sophomore currently entrenched in the small forward position, Li said “We think that Danny is a good fit right there. Last year, he showed us some great potential and had some great games. We were certainly very lucky to have gotten him so late in the draft. We believe that he can grow even more as a player and a person. As for Rawle, training camp and the preseason showed that he could handle playing bigger minutes than he did in Dallas. Rookies J.J. Redick and Daniel Gibson have also secured a spot on the team. “We think that they will be solid players and will contribute well to this team,” said Li. Lastly, C John Edwards, C Andrew Betts, PF Maceo Baston, SF Sean Lampley, PG Orien Greene, and PG Jimmie Hunter have been released by the Pacers. “We’re sorry to see them go, but they just weren’t what I had in mind for the Pacers of the future. We wish them luck in the future.” Li told reporters.

Indiana Pacers - Strategy and Predictions
Indianapolis, IN - Due to all the roster changes, fans around the league have been wondering what the Pacers’ game plan will be. Right now, I’m thinking that the Pacers will run a slower, half-court offense well suited to revolve around Jermaine O’Neal and Al Harrington. The lack of a consistent shooter will force the players to see more zone than they like, and for that, they may struggle a bit. Even so, there is an off chance that the Pacers will play faster, since their lineup is a little smaller with a 6’9” Harrington at the PF position and a 6’11” O’Neal at the C position. SF Danny Granger can score as well, and from what we have heard, has worked on his midrange and outside shooting. What about the backcourt? If Jamaal Tinsley plays well, the Pacers should do well during the season. Marquis Daniels should also be putting up solid numbers, now that he is getting the minutes he needs to improve. The bench should be solid, with rebounding machine C Jeff Foster and a big C in David Harrison in the post. PF Josh Powell played well in the preseason, but finding minutes and stats during the season will be much harder. As for the other positions, the Pacers are a little weak talent-wise. There is no way that veteran PG Darrell Armstrong should play a lot of minutes per game, even if he does provide the team with a lot of energy. PG Sarunas Jasikevicius was not too impressive during parts of last season, but should improve this year. SF/SG Stephen Jackson is coming off the bench as a sixth man this year, a role he should be well-suited for. As well as a new attitude (aside from the strip club incident), he seems to be doing better on the court. As for PG Orien Greene, SG Rawle Marshall, and SF Shawne Williams, they are untested, but should find some minutes if the players in front of them do not play well enough.
How will the Pacers fare during the season? The Pacers will win 40-45 games and will be eliminated 5 games into the first round of the playoffs. Their depth and talent (as well as health) is not spectacular, but Coach Rick Carlisle has often found a way to get the Pacers into the playoffs and competing for a few games. Quite simply, the Pacers need a better point guard or someone who can shoot the ball well to get further than they will.
