My Knicks Dynasty

I just started a knicks dynasty. The first thing I did was sim the first season, I didn't resign anyone and drafted a big man with the number 8 pick. I then traded Kurt thomas away for an expiring contract and a second round pick.

I simmed year two. I didn't resign anyone at the end of year two, drafted a pg with the number three pick and signed a few undrafted rookies for the minimum.

I simmed year three. I didn't resign anyone except one of my rookies, drafted a sf with the 12th pick and traded steph to the Lakers for a first round pick and brian grant. I then signed a few undrafted rooks to fill my roster.

I simmed year four and drafted a pf with the 5th pick in the draft and a center with the lakers pick (top 20) and a center in the second round. At this point I'm 18 mil under the cap so I sign Mickael pietrus, Maurice Williams and flip murray.

I like the idea of letting contracts expire and trading them. But Marbury for Grant is one contract for another. And I'd definately rather have Marbury.

Grants contract expired at the end of the season whereas Stephs had three more years on it.

Yeah I got crap for kurt and the draft that followed the Laker trade sucked as well so those picks didn't work out but I did have plenty of money and knew I would have a shot at mickeal. I had him in my last dynasty and he wound up getting defensive player of the year three times before he retired so I really wanted him.

Well it looks like I picked some winners! After being swept (by the Pistons) in the first round of the 2008 playoffs my team begins the 08-09 season better then ever. The knicks are 21-9 as of Jan 2.

All of my guards and sf's are three point experts which makes last minute runs a little easier.

I sim most of the season only jumping in at the fourth when I face a really good team. Last game I jumped in on was against the suns and I came back from 17 points behind only to lose by 8 points in OT.

I'm playing on all star 8 min quarters using Pared's sliders as posted by the future.

Well right now it's march 2nd and the knicks are 36-20. (I simmed most of the season and played 5 games (with 4 losses I suck )) but trouble is on the horizon.

First: Can a group of 2-5 year players advance beyond the first round regardless of their record?

Second: The team though deep and 2.85 million under the projected cap of 45.85 million has four rookies with expiring contracts including power foward Mike Sweetney, emerging star center Barney Dutton and clutch (6.9 ppg 41% three point shooting) sixth man Kjell Kozlov. All of this on top of the fact that superstar Pg Jim Cousey becomes a restricted free agent in 2010.

This will lead the thrifty GM of the Knicks Phil Jackson to make some important personal decisions.

Jackson has been quoted in the LA times as saying "we will win a championship in the next three years without spending half as much as Mark Cuban does to lose".

The New York Knicks have won 50 games this season (with 3 games yet to be played) for the first time in ten years.

In a frantic game against the league leading pacers (58-20) the Knicks came back from a 10 point deficit in the fourth quarter to win 82-94.

The rally was spurred from a steal by 5th year f/g Mickael Pietrus which lead to an easy layup for guard Jamal Crawford. After that the pacers became spectators as the fast breaking Knicks electrified Madison Square Garden with their uncompromising defense and high octane offense. The Knicks allowed just 12 ponts on 6 of 26 shooting in the fourth while shooting 11 of 23 and 3 of 8 from the arc.

Guard Jamal Crawford had 29 points (14 in the fourth) 5 rebounds 3 steals and 5 assists, Mike Sweetney grabbed a double-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists and three blocked shots.

The Knicks currently stand at number two in the east with a record of 50-29. The Pacers have a league leading record of 58-21 and the Pistons have home court over the Knicks with a record of 52-28.

Many analists project an early exit in the playoffs for the Knicks and with looming salary cap problems the future does not look bright for the Knicks or Phil Jackson.

Knicks make big changes in off season!

The New York Knicks (currently 15-5) have shaken things up after falling to the eventual world champion Indiana Pacers in the seventh game of the 2008 eastern conference finals.

Guard Jamal Crawford was traded for the expiring contract of Kerry Kittles of the Los Angeles Clippers. This move comes in the wake of several other unpopular decisions by GM Phil Jackson such as allowing free agents Mike Sweetney (rated 77) to sign with the Memphis Grizzlies and sixth man candidate Kjell Kozlov (rated 75) to defect to the Washington Wizards.

Knicks GM Phil Jackson is quoted as saying that these moves were necessary in order to facilitate the resigning of center Barney Dutton and guard Jim Cousey while staying under the league mandated salary cap of 46.34 million.

With a lot of unknowns, I don't know how fun this dynasty is looking man.
