2004-05 Chicago Bulls Season- Lost in First Round to Indiana

Sat Mar 05, 2005 4:15 am

Hello everyone, I'm a longtime NBA Live 2000 user, but a newcomer to the forums. Reading Andrew's Chicago Bulls franchise gave me the inspiration to start a season of my own, with game summaries, and stats. I am from the Chicago-area, and so am choosing my team to be the Chicago Bulls.

Here are the settings for my season:

-10 minute quarters (I get very realistic scores this way).
-29 game season
-All 30 NBA Teams, with updated rosters and the Charlotte Bobcats.
-Superstar difficulty
-No Computer Trading (only me against the real league)
-No Simming, I play all games + playoffs (If I make it! )
-I will trade if I feel the need & find a good deal
-Computer Assist On (Closer Scores- makes tougher games)

Also, a twist that I'm adding:
Because no one ever gets injured while playing in NBA Live 2000, even with injuries turned on, I'm going to make up my own. After every 8 games, I'm going to draw a random # from 1-15 (15 roster slots), and whatever number comes up, the corresponding player going from the Reorder Rosters Screen (with the topmost-player being #1, and down from there), will be injured until the next "drawing." This will add great challenge, as I'll have to cope with the loss, especially if I lose Kirk Hinrich or Eddy Curry
If I only have 13 players, but draw a number of 14 or 15, then I'm lucky, and no one gets hurt.

OK, here's my day 1 roster:

STARTERS:
C-Eddy Curry (great low-post scorer, average defender, rebounder)
PF-Tyson Chandler (average scorer, great defender + rebounder)
SF-Luol Deng (very versatile, good medium range shooter, can hit the 3)
SG-Ben Gordon (lightning quick, deadly 3-point shooter, average defense)
PG-Kirk Hinrich (great defender, good passer, good shooter, tough player)

(BTW- I know that Gordon and Chandler don't start for the Bulls in real life, but I like this better b/c it's more exciting)

BENCH:
Antonio Davis (good rebounder, good defense, good mid-range shot)
Andres Nocioni (tough, gritty, athletic, good “D”)
Chris Duhon (great defender and passer, struggles shooting)
Orthella Harrington (lesser version of Antonio Davis, but still very good)
Eric Piatkowski (3-point expert)
Jannero Pargo (good scorer, strong for a PG)
Adrian Griffin (veteran leader, great work ethic, good defender)
Frank Williams (practically glued to the bench: back up back up back up PG)

Stay tuned for game summaries, I'll post as often as I can. I've already played some games, so I'll post the first ones now...

You Got To Be Kidd-ing: Jason Kidd’s 30 Foot 3-Pointer Spoils Bulls Comeback

CHICAGO- After Bulls rookie Ben Gordon nailed a baseline jumper with 3.8 seconds remaining to put the Bulls ahead 105-103, the United Center crowd went bezerk. About 4 seconds later, they were deadly quiet.
That’s because New Jersey Nets all-star point guard drilled a 30 foot desperation three pointer that was nothing but net. Everyone was stunned, including Kidd. “I can’t believe it went in, but I’ll take it. It feels good to start the season on a high note like this.”
Kidd finished with 21 points and 16 assists, but was matched well against Kirk Hinrich. Hinrich was also impressive, with a well rounded stat line of 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 15 assists. Vince Carter was dominant, scoring 38 points, none of them ordinary. Richard Jefferson added 31, making for 90 points total for the Net's Big 3, or 85% of New Jersey’s total scoring.
It took big games from Eddy Curry (28 points), and Bulls rookies Ben Gordon and Luol Deng (19 and 21 points, respectively) to keep the game so close.
Bulls coach Scott Skiles was disappointed, but also took some good from this game. “New Jersey has some real weapons out there, and can really score. It was encouraging to see that we went shot-for-shot with them for awhile, but in the end, we couldn’t get a stop when we needed to.”

GAME NOTES

The Bulls played very veteran-like for such a young team, recording 29 assists while only turning the ball over 8 times. New Jersey was also very efficient, with 25 assists to 8 turnovers.

Four Bulls rookies made their debuts today, all in impressive fashion. Ben Gordon, the #3 pick overall, scored 19 points and added 3 assists, #7 overall selection Luol Deng scored 21, including 10 in the first quarter. Second round selection Chris Duhon, out of Duke, had 2 points, 2 assists, and a steal in 8 minutes of action, and Argentinan forward Andres Nocioni had 6 points, 3 rebounds, and a block in 11 minutes.

Kirk Hinrich struggled offensively, enduring a 3-10 shooing night.

CHI 103, N.O. 91
Balanced Attack for Bullies: Six Players Score in Double Figures in First Victory

CHICAGO- The Bulls got their first win of the season last night against the lowly New Orleans Hornets the Detroit Pistons-way: balance. Six players scored in double figures and two were one basket away as Chicago rolled from the second quarter-on to a relatively easy victory.
After the first period, the two teams were tied at 21 in a defensive battle. But the Bulls bench in the second quarter outscored the Hornets 30-18, and while Chicago led by as much as 18, New Orleans could never get within 7 points the rest of the way.
The Bulls bench outscored their opponents’ bench 36-11, led by Andres Nocioni’s 14 points, Orthella Harrington’s 10, and Antonio Davis’s 8. For the starters, Eddy Curry led all Bulls scorers with 19 points, and Luol Deng chipped in 15. Tyson Chandler had a great outing as he dominated the glass with 12 rebounds, scored 12 points, dished out a surprising 5 assists, and rejected 3 shots.
New Orleans struggled throughout the game, as their leader and best player Baron Davis endured a 7-21 shooting night, including a miserable 3-15 from three-point range. Only two Hornets showed up to play last night: P. J. Brown and rookie J. R. Smith. Brown was a beast in the paint, shooting 11-16 from the field, scoring 22 points, and hauling down 14 rebounds. After Smith came shot a dismal 4-15 in the first half, he went 8-16 in the second, finishing with a game-high 28 points.
About midway through the fourth quarter, Smith got really hot and started torching Bulls rookie Ben Gordon, who is about 5 inches shorter than Smith. Chicago coach Scott Skiles made a critical lineup change: he moved starting small forward Luol Deng to the 2, and brought in Andres Nocioni to take Deng’s spot and the 3, sitting Gordon down for the remainder of the game. Deng, at 6’ 8”, was able to lock up Smith and prevent him from taking over. It was just another plus in a game full of plusses for the Bulls.

GAME NOTES

The one area where the Bulls struggled at times last night was in taking care of the basketball. They committed 22 turnovers, a number that was way to high for coach Skiles. “Those turnovers were driving me crazy- I mean, that’s totally unacceptable for an NBA team, and I know the guys know it.”

Game 3

CHI 98, IND 80
Bulls Dominate Pacers: Lead By as Much as 23 Points in Rout

INDIANA- Offensively and defensively, the Chicago Bulls dominated a very good Indiana Pacers team at Conseco Fieldhouse last night. The Bulls were clicking on all cylinders- they shot 52% in the second and third quarters, when they put the game out of reach by outscoring Indiana 60-36, while holding the Pacers to 35% shooting. At times, the game was one everlasting fast break for the Bulls, who controlled the tempo despite being on the road.
Everyone who played, scored, and veteran guard Eric Piatkowski was sensational off the bench, as he scored 21 points in an 11-minute stretch. Ben Gordon didn’t miss much, going 7-9 from the floor for 16 points, and Luol Deng shot 50% en route to a 14 point outing.
Defensively, the Bulls had 18 steals and 11 blocks. Tyson Chandler had 4 steals, and 3 others had 3. Antonio Davis blocked three shots off the bench, and Orthella Harrington had 6 rebounds. If not for a late Austin Croshere three pointer, Indiana would not have even reached the 80-point mark that they finished at.
Indiana looked out of sync for much of the night. Their offense was extremely sloppy, as they committed a season-high 22 turnovers, including 8 in the fourth quarter. For a veteran team, this number is very surprising.
“That was embarrassing out there. I’m glad the game is over, and I’m sorry the fans had to watch such a pitiful showing,” Pacers Jermaine O’Neal stated afterwards.
Indiana coach Rick Carlisle added, “Give Chicago a lot of credit. They came in here, controlled the tempo, influenced their will, and dominated the game. We looked like we didn’t belong out there on the court with those guys. But, trust me, this won’t happen again.”
If these teams do meet again, it will be in the playoffs, and a much better showing from Indiana is to be expected.

GAME NOTES
Kirk Hinrich struggled shooting the ball once again, going 4-13. “I’m not worried just yet. I know I can shoot, so it’s just a matter of keep shooting and getting into a rhythm. The guys are doing a great job stepping up, and haven’t needed my offense so far.” Hinrich isn’t struggling on all facets; he’s averaging 12 assists per game, and playing great defense.

excellent! :D a live 2000 franchise! :D Are you using my roster? If yes, comments on players' ratings are VERY welcome :D

And for injuries, have a look here, it's a bit easier to simulate injuries with it instead of rolling a dice

I'm using my roster, that I've been keeping up-to-date for a couple of years now, on my own. (I think it's just about perfect to the real NBA). If you want my ratings for any of my players, just ask- I'm happy to share what I've rated the players.

And, I'll check out that injury generator- how does it work???

only the preview works, but it's enough, everything's explained on the page

Captain Kirk to the Rescue- Bulls Go “Animal” on Wolves in Furious Comeback

CHICAGO- “Our guys were out there like wild dogs, playing with reckless abandon. It’s a coach’s dream,” Bulls coach Scott Skiles said after he witnessed his team stage a miraculous comeback against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the United Center last night.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Wolves were starting to pull away, as every minute or so they added a few points to their lead. With a little over a minute left, they held an 8 point cushion. But the Bulls came up with clutch baskets in between what Kirk Hinrich described as “animal-like” defense. All five Bulls were everywhere as they full-court pressed the Wolves, and forced 8 Minnesota turnovers, most before the Wolves could even reach halfcourt. Chicago clearly had the momentum, as their fans were ready to tear off the roof, getting louder with each basket and each steal. It was a sight to see.
“I’ve been really struggling with my shot, and I was again through three quarters tonight,” Hinrich explained. He was 2-12 going into the final period. “So, I was real mad, I was riled. I gave it all I had, and it was good enough to get the “W.” In the fourth quarter, Hinrich scored 15 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
The Bulls are now showing that they can play defense, as they have held their last two opponents to well-under 100 points. This is something they must keep sharp if they are to reach the postseason for the first time since the Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen-Phil Jackson era.

GAME NOTES
Bulls rookie Ben Gordon, who was named the NBA’s Rookie of the Week for the first week of the season, continued his solid offensive play with a 7-15 shooting night, including 4-6 from downtown. He finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Eddy Curry, never known as a strong rebounder, had a career-high 12 first quarter rebounds, and finished the night with 17. He downplayed it, saying “That’s just because the Wolves couldn’t hit anything in the first.” He was right about that- Minnesota shot 5-24 in the opening period.
Reigning MVP Kevin Garnett was a veritable force in the paint through the first three quarters, but fell silent in the fourth, largely because of Tyson Chandler’s solid defense. “KG” had 21 points and 17 rebounds. Chandler had 4 blocks in the game.

CHI 100, POR 88
One Extreme to the Other- Bulls Go from Frozen First Half to Scorching Second

PORTLAND- The Portland Trailblazers led the Chicago Bulls 40-36 after the first half. This would be a good quarter of scoring for a Phoenix Suns game, but the two squads yesterday simply couldn’t put the ball in the basket very often during that half. Chicago shot a combined 14-52 in the half, a miserable 27%, and Portland wasn’t much better, going 16-50, or 32%. The Bulls were also just 1-13 from the three point line.
But coming out in the second half, the Bulls’ offense kicked into high gear, as they scored 64 points while making 22 of their 44 shots, a great 50% mark. Literally, it was night and day for them offensively. Coach Skiles remarked, “Yeah, I let the guys know at halftime that they were going to be running until they fell down tomorrow at practice unless I got some energy in the second half. Maybe that wasn’t the reason for it, but fortunately they picked it up and really played a great second half of basketball. Especially Luol, he caught fire and led us.”
Bulls rookie Luol Deng, who Skiles is speaking of, had a game that exactly mirrored his team’s. Deng was scoreless in the first half, and was really struggling, but in the second, it was another story altogether. He scored 26 points in the half, and was especially scorching in the fourth quarter when he dropped in 16 big points for the Bulls, without a miss: 5-5 FGs, and 6-6 free throws. Kirk Hinrich had a similar game: he was 0-6 in the first half, but was 5-8 in the third and fourth quarters combined.
The Bulls were able to pull out a convincing 12 point victory in large part due to Portland continuing to struggle shooting the ball, albeit at a better percentage than in the first half (19-47, 40.4%). Some of their players really shot poorly: Nick Van Exel was 6-26 shooting and Damon Stoudamire was just 4-16. “We shot ourselves out of the game,” Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said.

GAME NOTES

Blazers big man Vladimir Stephania played very well off the bench, scoring 8 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Also very active was Portland’s starting small forward, and Chicago-product, Darius Miles. Miles filled the stat sheet with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 30 minutes of action.

Too Much Kobe- Bryant Scores 25 in First Half, 39 After 3 in Lakers Win

CHICAGO- Bulls rookie shooting guard Ben Gordon is finding out how difficult it is to start in this league, especially at the position where he’s faced with the task of guarding the opposition’s best scorer most of the time. Last night, he got his first taste of Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.
All Kobe did was score 41 points, including 25 at halftime and 39 after 3 quarters of play. “I didn’t do well against him,” Gordon admitted after the game. “He’s got that mix of talent, work ethic, and determination that make him extremely tough to stop.”
In the first half, the Bulls came out strong, and led 49-47. They lost control of the game in the third, however. The Lakers outscored them by 14 points, 34 to 20. Bulls coach Scott Skiles switched Kirk Hinrich onto Bryant defensively in the quarter, but it didn’t do much.
Hinrich did lead the Bulls offensively, though, scoring 23 points on 10-23 shooting. And this was after going 1-10 in the pivotal third quarter. “I’m trying to get more consistent offensively, and I was in a rhythm to start off the game. But in the third, I couldn’t hit anything. And then in the forth, I was hitting again. Don’t ask me what it is, ‘cause I don’t know. All I know is I’m gonna keep on working on my game, and all this inconsistency won’t last forever.”
In the fourth quarter, the Bulls tried to make a rally, but kept turning the ball over, a total of 7 times in the quarter. It got to the point where coach Skiles did a rare 5-man substitution with 1:22 left in the game, and the Bulls down by 10. All in all, it was a disappointing finish to what was a promising start.

GAME NOTES

Tyson Chandler played very well against L.A., his hometown. He said, “I always get pumped up against the Lakers, ‘cause I know my homeboys are watching…” Chandler put up 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.

Despite Ben Gordon’s struggles defensively, and with shooting the ball, he sets career highs in rebounds and assists, with 7 and 9, respectively.

Lamar Odom scored 23 points, and Luol Deng had 17.

Game 7

CHI 104 MEM 97, (O.T.)
Bulls “Bear” Down on Grizzlies- Solid Defense in Overtime Key to Victory

MEMPHIS- Despite being on the road, the Chicago Bulls controlled the tempo of last night’s game against a tough Memphis Grizzlies squad. When the Bulls felt like running, they ran: Ben Gordon popped in 11 points on 4-5 shooting in the first, and Kirk Hinrich added 8 points and 2 assists to open up the game.
In the second quarter, when both teams were struggling with shooting the basketball and rebounding became critical, supersub rookie Andres Nocioni snared 6 boards, including 3 on the offensive glass. Thanks to this, Chicago was able to hold down a 46-45 halftime lead, which they felt comfortable with. “At the half, I knew, and I think the guys knew, that this was a very winnable game for us,” Bulls coach Scott Skiles remarked afterwards. “We were able to influence our will on the game.”
The second half mirrored the first, with a good-shooting third quarter and a gritty, fundamentally sound fourth quarter. Eddy Curry was doing whatever he wanted in the low post, en route to an 11-19 shooting, 23 points night, and Kirk Hinrich got hot from the outside in the fourth quarter. He scored a season-high 33 points, with a much better FG% (.480) than he had been shooting at for the season.
Despite all of this, the Bulls could never put the Grizzlies away, and Memphis always found an answer to any Bulls run. They had four players score 15 or more points, led by shooting guard Bonzi Wells’s 23. When the Bulls had the last possession in the fourth quarter, with the game tied at 90, Hinrich missed a jumper at the buzzer that would have won the game, but instead forced overtime.
Fortunately for the Bulls, this is when they stepped up most. They scored twice as many points (14 to 7) as the Grizzles, and held them to just 3-13 shooting, or 23%. Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello concluded, “I thought we gave a nice effort tonight, but just came up short in the end. The Bulls are a gritty team, and will be a contender in the end.”

GAME NOTES
Tyson Chandler’s game showed the kind of player he is: struggles offensively (he was 0-7, 0 points), but masterful defensively (11 rebounds, a season-high 7 blocks).

Game 8

MIA 95, CHI 93
Skid Marks From the Diesel- Shaquille O’Neal leads Miami to relatively easy victory

MIAMI- The Miami Heat defended their home floor well against the Bulls last night, dominating the first three quarters, and then holding off a late Chicago rally to clinch victory. They were led by their two superstars, Shaquille O’Neal, and Dwyane Wade, who filled up the box score with their well-rounded play. Without injured backup Michael Doleac, O’Neal recorded 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 big blocked shots, and Wade contributed a game-high 26 points, to go along with 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
Wade commented after the game: “We’re very confident on our home floor, with our great fans behind us. They gave a real energy boost tonight, which enabled us to pull out an early lead, and hang on in the end.”
The Heat started off, well, hot in the first quarter, shooting 54% en route to a 33-22 advantage. The Bulls could only shave 2 points off that lead by halftime, and then fell further behind as they trailed 76-63 after 3 quarters of play. Shaq was especially tough, going 5-5 in the first quarter alone, 10-17 overall, and holding Eddy Curry to just 10 points in the game.
Going into the final quarter, Bulls coach Scott Skiles made a few changes to the lineup: he pulled struggling and winded starters Luol Deng and Tyson Chandler for Andres Nocioni and Antonio Davis. The Bulls made no substitutions in the fourth, as they finally found a unit that challenged the Heat in Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon, Nocioni, Davis, and Eddy Curry.
Chicago rallied all the way back to within two points, thanks to the mad-man play of Hinrich and Nocioni, who were everywhere defensively, and helped force the Heat’s 8 turnovers in the quarter. However, with about 35 seconds left, and the Bulls trailing by 2, Nocioni threw an errant pass to Eddy Curry that was picked off by O’Neal. Dwyane Wade canned a 17 foot jumper on the next possession, and that was the ballgame.
In a game that they never lead, the Bulls learned that they need to play competitively for four quarters, not one, to have a chance to go anywhere this year.

GAME NOTES

After averaging 11.2 points per game in his first 5 contests, Kirk Hinrich has scored 23, 33 and 23 points in his last three games, respectively. His scoring average is now at 16.9 ppg.

I like the way you highlight some stats by using bold font or smileys :) But I'm definitely convinced that a bunch of screenshots would provide a nice touch to your dynasty (Y)

Thanks for the compliments. :)

Nah, I'm gonna stick to no-screenshots.

It's going to be like a great book- you'll see it in your head, and use your imagination, because the summaries are going to be good.

Stay tuned, I'm going to make some GM decisions soon... :)

Well, now that it's been 8 games, I'm going to reflect on how the season has gone so far.

Here's an analysis of my starting 5:

EDDY CURRY

SCORING GAME-BY-GAME: 28, 19, 14, 16, 12, 8, 23, 10 AVG: 16.3 HI: 28
REBOUNDING GAME-BY-GAME: 9, 4, 7, 17, 10, 7, 13, 11 AVG: 9.8 HI: 17
ASSISTS GAME-BY-GAME: 2, 1, 4, 1, 1, 2, 3, 4 AVG: 2.3 HI: 4
BLOCKS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 3, 2, 3, 2, 1, 1, 5 AVG: 2.3 HI: 5
STEALS GAME-BY-GAME: 0, 1, 3, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1 AVG: 0.75 HI: 1
TURNOVERS GAME-BY-GAME: 4, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 4 AVG: 2.8 HI: 4

Double Doubles: 4
Observations: Eddy has played well overall, and has produced with consistency. He’s had monster efforts in different areas in different games, but hasn’t put them all together into a dominant game.

TYSON CHANDLER

SCORING GAME-BY-GAME: 10, 12, 2, 6, 5, 16, 0, 4 AVG: 6.9 HI: 16
REBOUNDING GAME-BY-GAME: 7, 12, 7, 7, 9, 11, 11, 8 AVG: 9.0 HI: 12
ASSISTS GAME-BY-GAME: 3, 5, 3, 1, 2, 1, 3, 1 AVG: 2.4 HI: 5
BLOCKS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 3, 1, 4, 3, 3, 7, 0 AVG: 2.8 HI: 7
STEALS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 1, 4, 3, 0, 0, 2, 1 AVG: 1.5 HI: 4
TURNOVERS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1, 1, 4 AVG: 1.5 HI: 4

Double Doubles: 2
Observations: Tyson is on the floor for his defense, and so has surprised with 3 double-digit scoring efforts in the first 8 games. His rebounding is very good, but can still get better. He should be averaging 10-plus boards per game. Also, Tyson has done a good job of protecting the basketball- his 1:1 steals-to-turnovers ratio is excellent for a big man.

LUOL DENG

SCORING GAME-BY-GAME: 21, 15, 14, 12, 26, 17, 2, 8 AVG: 14.4 HI: 26
REBOUNDING GAME-BY-GAME: 4, 5, 3, 8, 7, 5, 3, 3 AVG: 4.8 HI: 8
ASSISTS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 1, 0, 0 AVG: 1.5 HI: 3
BLOCKS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 1, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1 AVG: 0.5 HI: 2
STEALS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 0, 0 AVG: 1.13 HI: 2
TURNOVERS GAME-BY-GAME: 0, 5, 0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 0 AVG: 1.4 HI: 5

Observations: Luol started off the season producing big numbers on the offensive end, but has faltered in his last two games. He’s been rebounding the ball well, but not racking up the number of assists that he’s capable of. Look for his assists-per-game average to rise during the season. He’s also protected the ball well; 1.4 turnovers per game is something the coaching staff can live with.

BEN GORDON

SCORING GAME-BY-GAME: 19, 11, 16, 18, 20, 9, 22, 20 AVG: 16.9 HI: 22
REBOUNDING GAME-BY-GAME: 2, 2, 1, 4, 8, 7, 6, 6 AVG: 4.5 HI: 8
ASSISTS GAME-BY-GAME: 3, 3, 1, 4, 5, 9, 5, 4 AVG: 4.3 HI: 9
BLOCKS GAME-BY-GAME: 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 1 AVG: 0.38 HI: 1
STEALS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 0, 3, 1, 1, 2, 0, 2 AVG: 1.25 HI: 3
TURNOVERS GAME-BY-GAME: 0, 1, 2, 3, 1, 7, 3, 2 AVG: 2.4 HI: 7

Observations: Ben has shown great scoring ability so far this season, and has been very consistent. He’s got double-digits in scoring in 7 out of 8 games, and 20-plus points three times. What has surprised the coaching staff is his versatility- he’s producing solid assists and rebounding numbers. What Ben needs to work on most is his defense and taking care of the ball.

KIRK HINRICH

SCORING GAME-BY-GAME: 8, 8, 9, 19, 12, 23, 33, 23 AVG: 14.5 HI: 33
REBOUNDING GAME-BY-GAME: 8, 1, 0, 0, 3, 4, 1, 3 AVG: 2.5 HI: 8
ASSISTS GAME-BY-GAME: 15, 11, 10, 8, 5, 6, 5, 5 AVG: 8.1 HI: 15
BLOCKS GAME-BY-GAME: 0, 0, 1, 0, 3, 1, 0, 0 AVG: 0.62 HI: 3
STEALS GAME-BY-GAME: 0, 3, 1, 7, 2, 5, 2, 6 AVG: 3.0 HI: 7
TURNOVERS GAME-BY-GAME: 1, 4, 5, 3, 3, 2, 3, 5 AVG: 3.3 HI: 5

Observations: Kirk has been very streaky this year. He started off the season in a shooting slump, but has caught fire in his last three ballgames, averaging 26 ppg over that stretch. However, his assists numbers have taken the opposite effect: he had 3 double-digit assists games to start the season, but hasn’t had one since. Overall, his great defense and potential for breakout games offsets his turnover numbers and cold streaks. He’s a key player to this team.

And now, some GM notes:

-I wasn't pleased with the team's showing against Miami- they dominated for the majority of the game, and despite the close end score, the Heat showed that they were on another level from us. The Bulls must improve somehow if they are going to get past these guys in the playoffs.

-I've noticed some disappointing trends in our games:
:!: horrible three point shooting- the team is shot a combined 27 for 107 in the first 8 games- that's 25.2% :x
:!: lack of free throw attempts
:!: too many turnovers- after 8 games the team has committed 124 turnovers- that's 15.5 per game

Something's gotta be done about this, or we can preorder our Hallmark sorrow cards and count on early summer vacations.

mmmm the 3 point problem is normal. since you set it to CPU assistance "ON"
lack of freethrow attempts?=lower foul slider=not getting enough low post shots
too many turnovers= needs a good PG= always let your guards handle the ball to pass

but a few trades will do you good. 5-3 record ain't that bad esp. with the bulls lineup your using (Y)

Yeah, 5-3's not bad, but I know we can be much better- a great team. We'll see what happens...

Reporter: "Ben, could you tell us what happened?"
Ben: "Well, uh, it was during practice yesterday...Coach had us into a real intense practice, and when Eddy went to the hole for a throwdown, I tried to stop him."
Reporter: "You mean, you tried to block an Eddy Curry dunk?"
Ben: "Yeah, man, I know, it's sounds crazy. But, I'll be alright, it's just a sprain."

GAME 9

DEN 103, CHI 100 (O.T.)
Too Much to Overcome- Bulls Compile Disappointing Statistics in Loss to Denver

CHICAGO- Bulls coach Scott Skiles sounded like he was auditioning to be the next Bulls scorekeeper, as he explained why the Bulls lost a tight 103-100 overtime contest vs. the Denver Nuggets last night. “You wanna know why we lost? Lemme tell you- how about 19 turnovers, compared to Denver’s 6? How about 9-31 shooting from our starting backcourt? How about shooting 19 fewer shots than Denver? I mean, I liked our guys’ effort for the most part, but we need to be a more complete and consistent ballclub, without these mental lapses.”
It was a tough loss for Chicago, who fell victim to a Denver Nuggets team that didn’t make many mistakes, and whose super-sophomore Carmelo Anthony dominated with 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists.
The Bulls missed rookie phenom Ben Gordon’s 16.9 points per game- he’s out for the first of two games with a severely sprained left wrist. He injured it yesterday in practice, while inexplicably trying to block an Eddy Curry dunk.
“We did miss Ben out there tonight, but this was a game we could and should have won,” Curry stated. The Bulls did have an opportunity late in the fourth quarter to steal the game, when Andres Nocioni hit a 15 footer with 26 seconds remaining to give Chicago a 94-92 advantage. However, Denver got a few offensive rebounds on their final play, and were able to get Carmelo Anthony open. He had the hot hand all game, and didn’t cool off when he swished a 17-foot jumper from the right elbow at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra period, Denver rode their home crowd to a victory, simply showing more energy than the Bulls, who shot only 3-9 in O.T.

GAME NOTES

Bulls starting point guard Kirk Hinrich really struggled against the Nuggets. He shot a dismal 6-22 from the field, and committed more turnovers (5) than assists (4).

Veteran guard Eric Piatkowski started in place of Ben Gordon, scoring 9 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. “Obviously Ben is the future of this team, but I’m just happy to be able to contribute when I’m called upon,” he said.

GAME 10:

CHI 119, LAC 116 (2 O.T.)
Bulls Win Nail-biter in L.A.- Eddy Curry Carries Team With Career Night

LOS ANGELES- The Bulls and Clippers battled through regulation and 2 overtimes of intense basketball last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. “This was one heck of a game,” Scott Skiles remarked. “The fans definitely got their money’s worth tonight.”
The Bulls were led by Eddy Curry’s career-high 44 points. He simply dominated the paint, and L.A. was forced to double team him throughout much of the second half. “I was in the zone tonight,” Curry said. “I was in a groove, but more importantly, our whole team played big. I’m just happy we won.”
The Bulls were up 94-91 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and trying to put the game away, when Clippers sharpshooter Kerry Kittles drained a long three pointer to tie it up 94-94. Chicago missed on the other end, and L.A. center Chris Kaman hit a leaner in the lane with 8 seconds remaining, and the Clippers now possessing a 96-94 advantage.
The Bulls called a timeout, and then passed it in to Eddy Curry. Curry muscled his way in the lane, and was fouled while attempting a shot with 1.8 seconds left. Despite the intense pressure, Curry coolly sank his 2 free throws, tying the game once again at 96-96, and ultimately forcing overtime.
In the first O.T., Kirk Hinrich hit a baseline layup with 3 seconds left in the to put the Bulls up 107-105, but then Bobby Simmons of L.A. drained a 18 foot jumper with 0.3 seconds remaining to force another overtime. The home crowd went going crazy when the shot swished in, and it looked like the Clippers had the edge going into another overtime period with their home fans giving them support and energy.
This wasn’t the case, however, as the Bulls finally shut them down in the second overtime, holding L.A. to 33% shooting while the Bulls went 6-8 from the field. Eddy Curry continued to score at will in the post, Hinrich shot 4-4 in the two overtimes combined, and the Bulls hung on for a great win.

GAME NOTES
Ben Gordon is due back in the lineup in the Bulls next game. His replacement, Eric Piatkowski, once again played well with 14 points and 9 rebounds. In the two games he’s started, “Pike” has averaged 11.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg.

Chicago product Corey Maggette led the Clippers with 30 points.
