My franchise with Denver Nuggets (04/05 rosters)

Thu Feb 24, 2005 9:13 pm

I started a franchise with Nuggets yesterday and I thought I'll post game recaps & stuff like that in here. It will be more interesting to me too if people are reading this and I hope it will be interesting to you too.

Anyways I have played 4 games so far and I've lost one of them. I play with 10min quaters and superstar level. I played the first two games with all-star level and won them both with ease so I switched to superstar
Here's my roster:

C M. Camby 76 overall
PF K. Martin 77
SF C. Anthony 81
SG V. Lenard 72
PG A. Miller 72
---------------------
6. E. Boykins 69
7. NENE 69
8. B. Russell 66
9. D. Johnson 66
10 D. Harvey 66
11. R. White 66
12. G. Buckner 65
----------------------
IR N. Tskitishvili 64
IR F. Elson 61

I picked Donnell Harvey from the FA pool to substitute Martin beacause he's better than Elson. I'm also thinking about trading Miller for another PG because he's only getting 2.5 assists per game. Maybe I'll trade Camby as well.

game 1 - IND 75:95 DEN
game 2 - NY 67:128 DEN
game 3 - DEN 90:75 UTAH (switched to all-star lever before the game)

game 4 recap:

NOH 73:70 DEN

After winnig Utah by 15 points I was confident I'll win the Hornets. It was by far the most interesting game of the season. I won the first quater 20:18. It was a close 2nd quater as well. Only Anthony played good on the offence as the others only scored a few times. I substituded Lenard for Johnson at the start of the third because he only scored one point in the first half. Johnson came in and scored 11pts and with the help of Carmelo we managed to get a 12 point lead. With 3min left in the last quater we were still ahead by 9. Then out defence collapsed as the Hornets made a 12-0 scoring run leaving us behind by 3. Lenard managed to tie the game with a nice 3pt shot with only 33.5 sec remaining. Martin fouled Brown who nailed both freethrows. 15.7 sec we were down by two and I was still confident that we'll win the game. But then we failed to score and we had to foul. 3.5 sec remained as Brown was on the line again. As I hoped he missed the first, but got the second. I took my last time out and Lenard was going to take the last shot. He missed as we lost our first game of the season.

Anthony scored 24, Martin 14 points and grabbed 16 boards. Camby only scored once nut collected 15 rebounds.
Brown was POG with 17points & 7 rebounds

Record: 3-1

game 5 recap:
DEN 75:81 NJ

First of all I want to say that this was a very depressing game. I wanted to brake my keyboard in half and throw the comp out of the window.
I managed to keep pace with the Nets in the first quater witch I actually won 20:17 but then things really got out of hand. My defence was really bad and my offence wasn't good aither as I lost the second quater 9:24 shooting only 15% (4/26). Lenard had a bad night again without shooting any points in the first 3 quaters and the bench players were bad too. Everyone was playing very bad exept Carmelo who scored 42points (31 in the 2nd half) and grabbed 9 boards. He was the POG as well. 90% of the passes that went inside to the big men were intercepted. I starter a comeback in the 2nd half with Anthony and with 5min left in the final quater I was only down by 5 points. I still managed to lose as Carmelo was blocked twice by Carter. Those baskets could just gotten me the win.

Stats(DEN):
C. Anthony 42points 9rebs 2blks 2 stls
K-Mart 12 pts 12rebs
M. Camby 10pts 16rebs
A. Miller 6ast 10stls

Record: 3-2

This was a comlete walkover, something we needed after the two recenr losses.
Nuggets took the lead early in the game and kept it untill the end. The bench players got a lot of minutes as I wasn't shy giveing them some much needed play time. It was nice to see everyone playing good.

Stats(POR):

News around the league

Sacramento trades B. Jackson to Bostaon for R. Davies
Denver trades E. Boykins to Chicago for L. Deng
Denver trades B. Russell and R. White to Clevland for E. Snow and I. Newble

K. Garnett was player of the month

As some of the contracts were running out I started looking for trades. When I saw I could get L. Deng for E. Boykins, I didn't hesitate for a moment. Now I needed a back-up PG now so I traded Russell & White for Snow & Newble.

game 7
DEN 108:104 CHI

game 8
DEN 115:90 SAC

The first quater started off very good. With only 2 minutes played, we were leading 11:2. Sacramento then found their game as they won the quater 22:27.
We won the 2nd quater 31:21 as we out-rebounded our opponents 18 to 8. Deng and Johnson played well to get us a 5 point lead in the end of the first half.
Much like in the first, we started the third quater with a nice scoring run. Our defence was good and with the help of Carmelo, Lenard and Martin in the offence, we managed to get a 17 point lead in the end of the 3rd. Miller had a good quater as he made some steals and quick lay-ups. He finally scored 10 points and made 6 steals.
My starters only played for a few minutes in the last quater as I mainly played with my bench players. It payed off as the cap finally grew to 25.

D. Harvey showed a good game with 5 points 3 boards and 2 blocks

C. Anthony was POG with 28 points and 11 rebounds

News around the league
(DEN) D. Johnson <---> T. Best (NJ)
(LAC) K. Kittles <---> M. Harping (UTAH)
(DEN) T. Best & N. Tskitishvili <---> A. Mckie & W. Green (PHI)

after the depressing loss to Phoenix, the Nets offered a trade witch included Travis Best for DeMarr Johnson. I did a lot of thinking with this one and I finally agreed because of two reasons:
1) I was playing Johnson as SG since Deng was playing SF. Johnson was too big (6'9'') to be a SG and also lacked the abilities of a SG.
2) Best's overall was 70 and DeMarr's 66.

I accepted the trade and started looking for a SG who would substitute Lenard. A. McKie was perfect for the spot but I needed to throw in someone else. So I gave Tskitishvili and took Green.

My new rosters:

STARTERS

C #23 M. Camby--6.4points--12.1rebounds--1.8blocks
PF #6 K. Martin--12.2points--10.5rebounds--2.1blocks
SF #15 C. Anthony--31.1 points--6.7rebounds--2.5blocks
SG #1 V. Lenard--17.8points--1.4steals--2.4assists
PG #24 A. Miller--6.2points--6.6steals--3.6assists

SUBSTITUTES

SG #8 A. McKie--6.6points--2.6assists
SF #9 L. Deng--10.4points--4.6rebounds
C #31 NENE--6.6points--7.9rebounds
PG #20 E. Snow--1.6points--1.7assists
PF #44 D. Harvey--1.7points--4.7rebounds

USUALLY DON'T GET TO PLAY :P
F. Elson
I. Newble
W. Green

I think I now have a disent team and most lickley I woun't make any more trades (unless they offer me something I can't refuse).

PS. Finally a comment. Thanks. I'll make my recaps more interesting and spice them up with pics and videos.

that move works ALL the time when you're isolated. shaq's unstoppable using that move..... you'd have to master his FT shooting of course.

i find kyle korver (70 overall) one of the better 3pt shooters in the game.
you ripped off philly in the best-skita/mckie-green deal.
boykins for leng is better for chicago i think. nocioni can play SF and boykins is a better PG than hinrich/duhon/gordon.
sac is crazy to trade bjax for ricky davis.

you're crazy to use the nuggets. they suck.. you lost to the HORNETS for cryin out loud....
lac got better with harpring, who'll help out at SF.

Fri Mar 04, 2005 12:01 am

well I have this thing for Nuggets. I ALWAYS use Nuggets when I start a new fracise.
Boykins's and Russell's contracts were running out and they might deside not to sign. Russell has also played for over 10 years and might retire. Deng on the other hand is a rookie and will develop. He's a good rebounder and good inside and has a nice jump shot.

game 10
MIA 95:105 DEN (OT)

I new this was going to be a thogh game. We needed to win as our record was 6-3. I desided to start NENE instead of Camby becaus he's stronger and fould be a better opponent for Shaq.

In the first two and a half minutes we managed to get a 11:4 lead. Then Heat found their game and with 5 minutes played it was 13:12. It was a close game almost til the end of the quater. D. Harvey (turn out he's a mean mad dunking machine :D ) made two dunks and McKie added two 3pt shot as we won the first quater 29:21.

http://www.hot.ee/piskvat/harvey.jpg
D. Harvey against Wade

Heat managed to tie the game early in the 2nd quater. This was a close quater as we were tradeing baskets most of the time. It was like a dunk contest for the whole quater as all the players showed-off their jumping and dunking skills. Shaq tried a windmill but missed (download the video to see this). In the end of the first half it was 47:49 to the Heat.

Third quater was a 3pt shootout. we were down by 5 in the end of this one.

We managed to catch up with the Heat and stayed with them in the 4th. Shaq made his windmill in this one (you can see it in the same video).
With 1 minute to go we were down one. Vujanic made 2 FT's. Lenard then hit a three. Miami missed and Carmelo made a 2pt shot. Wade got blocked but then jumped at the loose ball, turned and made the deep 2 with a fade away. It was tied 94:94 and we were going into OT

We got posession and Anthony made the 2. He sinked another one on the next posession. Lenard helped with a 3pt shot and it was enough to win.

Anthony was POG with 37points, 4 boards and 11(!) blocks.

After this game I was offered a trade. Ilgauskas for Camby. I accepted because Camby wasn't helping us offensefly shooting just under 7ppg.

game 12
DEN 108:105 DET

We won the first quater by 12 thanks to Lenard who had a terrific night shooting 26 points. Ilgauskas also felt like at home getting 15 points and 8 rebounds. It was more of a cat and mouse game afterwards.

Odom had foul trouble early in the game. He was forced to sit out 9 minutes in the first and 7 in the secend quater. Lakers still won the first quater 24:29.

After a close 2nd quater the Nuggets got a 12 point lead and kept it till the end. Odom had a terrible game and Bryant only shot 15 points. Divac was the man who punished Nuggets on both ends of the court as he shot 16 points and grabbed 17 boards. It wasn't enough to take on the Nuggets who won the game by 15 points, setting their record at 10-4, witch is only good enough for 6th in the Western tho.

Rookie Loul Deng had a terrific night with 10 points, 6 boards and 4 blocks. Substitute Donnell Harvey helped the Nuggets with 7 points and 12 rebounds.

After winning the Lakers, the Nuggets took on the local Clippers. It was a close game from the start as Clippers leaded until the 4th quater. Brand, Maggette and Harping were a real pain as they put together a real show for the fans. E. Brand was one of the key players for the Clippers scoring 12points and grabbing 17 boards. K. Martin responded with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. He was also woted Player Of the Game. It seems tradeing K. Kittles for M. Harping was the thing to do as Matt scored 18 points. He also got 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Maggette helped with 25 points. The Nuggets still managed to win, mainly thanks to V. Lenard's 3 pointers in the 4th quater. He finished with 25 points and 4 boards. Carmelo added 30 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks while Ilgauskas got 16 points, 14 rebs and 6 blks.

Because I'm playing with 28 games per season, the next game will be THE ALL-STAR GAME. I'm also going to play the rookie game. Stay tuned.

Sun Mar 06, 2005 3:18 am

the screenshots give a great touch to your franchise (y) Looking forward to seeing updates soon! :)

Sun Mar 06, 2005 6:14 pm

hah... maaan keep up the good work... i am just looking forward to see your next relations... dont forget about some replays ;)

oh... and on what roster update do you play? do you play on simulation or arcade? what caused that jump in socring? i mean in the first games on superstar you had some minor scores and now you rarely go under 100? practice? trades?

Sun Mar 06, 2005 10:48 pm

I play with jwill2's rosters. It's not finished tho, some minor things like years pro and stuff like that are out of date but I'll edit them myself.
I play with simulation.
Practice, trades and I set the quater lenght to 11min - I think that caused the jump in scoring.
I didn't play the rookie game but I did play the All-Star game. I'll do an update on that soon. I'll add some pics and a video with some highlights. Btw whats your speed when you download the videos?

Sun Mar 06, 2005 11:02 pm

where can i get jwill2's rosters?

what do u mean "rookie game"? i thought there is no such thing in nba live 2001...

and i have some nice transfer rates while downloading your movies (even 70kb/s once... but generaly something about 25kb/s).
