W (For realism sake I've decided not to post the true scores
but will tell you them if you ask.)
The Bobcats were more of a challenge than the Pistons (though some of you may find that insulting, but it was true). Trouble came from all angles whether it be from the inside via Mek and Brezec or the the perimeter via Felton, Rush & Carrol or from the mid range jumpers from Wallace even Knight was a problem (penetrating the paint and finding open team mates for shots). I think the coaching staff, team and even myself under estimated the Bobcats who too may be out to prove themselves this coming season. The Knicks beat the Bobcats by 13 points thanks to a late 4th quarter run. The Bobcats did well frustrating NY in the first two quarters even taking the lead at one point. The Knicks were in a bit of a jam when Curry left with an injury. But Frye worked hard downlow trying his best to contain Mek. Bottom line is the better team (NY Knicks) came out victorious at the end which is commendable for all involved.
NY: Crawford led the Knicks in scoring putting down 33 points and grabbing 2 rebounds. He was mainly an offensive force but other guards filled in the assist department of which he had zero assists. Franchise followed with a double double of 31 points and 11 assists which went a long way in keeping NY in the game prior to the 4th quarter run. Jalen Rose followed with 27 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. I like his all around play which teams looking to acquire him will benefit from. Marbury played well off the bench coming to score 22 points and dished out 3 assists. Channing Frye's play especially with Curry's injury impressed everyone. He delivered with a triple double of 16 points, 13 rebounds and an amazing 17 blocks. 17 blocks went a long way in both slowing down the Bobcats offensively and also containing Mek downlow. Q-Rich followed with 13 points, Curry prior to his injury scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Robinson scored 9 points and dished out 6 assists. Not bad seeing this is his first start and he was up against a much more experienced guard. This game told the management a couple of things about the team. They include
1. Never under estimate any team in the NBA.
2. Frye with good training will be a force to contend with downlow, his triple double has told us that he can do it all.
3. Robinson will need to work on hitting open shots but his amazing speed gives him and edge over slower guards.
4. Curry and Frye seem to be the only defensive forces the team has and as such this problem will be rectified in the regular season.
All in all a good game and congratulations to the players and coaching staff.
CHA: Knight led the Bobcats with 32 points and 12 assists for a double double. Knight used his experience to outwit Robinson and this can be seen when you look at their numbers. Mek was a monster downlow as predicted coming away with 24 points and 13 rebounds. It was a bit harder to contain him with Curry's departure but as stated earlier, Frye did his best. Kareem Rush followed suit by knocking down 22 points for the Bobcats, Felton added 16 points and dished out 5 assists, Wallace prior to his injury added 17 points, Carroll scored 13 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 7 assists, May chipped in with 12 points and 9 rebounds while Brezec finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds. These are some pretty good numbers on the part of the Bobcats and if they can improve on them, they just may give other teams in their division a good run for their playoff spots.
Note: Larry Brown has decided he will start along side Robinson, Jamal Crawford and insert Marbury & Francis at different stages of the game and see which combination works best. Q-Rich may not even see minutes at the SG but may reside as Jalen Rose's back up till further notice.
