Slam Rookie Diary-Issue#7:Streak Over

Postby Null17 on Sun Mar 06, 2005 2:05 am

BACKGROUND INFO:
Thought I'd give this another shot. This time I made small updates to Andrew's latest rosters and released some players based on real life. I used the Bobcats then I simmed through the first season. I only re-signed a few of my players plus I got Devean George through free agency. I got the sixth pick which was projected to be the second pick then i edited the database made some changes to it and changed my rookie into me. I'll be a 5'10" point guard who's fast and shoots well, although this might be the opposite of my real self in terms of skills and playing style. I also added an inch to make me a litter taller. I'll use player lock on my character and turned the user substition frequency to 50. That way I won't be too biased when it comes to player rotation. The whole dynasty will be viewed through the eyes of my character via the Slam Rookie Diary. This way I won't have to get into details too much.

SETTINGS:
Team: Charlotte Bobcats
Skill Level: Superstar
Quarter Length: 6 Min
Sim Quarter Length: 10 Min
Sliders: Default (except fatigue and user sub freq set to 50)
Rosters: Andrew's latest as of this post + a few updates
Simulation: Regular
Games: 82
Schedule: NBA
Playoffs: 7-7-7-7

STANDING:

ROSTERS:

PF E. Okafor
SF D. George
SG G. Wallace
PG. S. Ravago

Bench:

ISSUE #1 by Spencer Ravago
Hey, what's up! Spencer Ravago here, rookie for the Charlotte Bobcats. I'm a 5'10" point guard from the Philippines. I was the sixth pick even though I was projected to be picked second. I was probably picked a little later than expected because of my height. Doesn't bother me too much though, Charlotte's a developing team and I feel that I can contribute more here.

Right now we're in the middle of training camp, the teams been focusing a lot on shooting and conditioning. Most of the guys on the team are hard workers especially since they finally have the chance to show what they've got now that they're getting more minutes. We're just hoping to get a better record than last year. Yeah we're realistic, it's not like we're gonna win the championship after two seasons in the league.

Oh yeah, I also just signed a deal with adidas and I'll be wearing the Game Day Lightnings during games. I hear that they're gonna integrate me to the "Circus of the Guards" campaign. That means I'll be with Arenas, Bassy and Chauncey. Cool. I think I might be able to show the new ads by next issue.

Well, that's all for now. Catch you next ish.

A good idea for a story, Null (Y) . Just be careful not to get injured or there won't be much to write about except rehab...

haven't really thought about it that way coco, don't really visit other people's dynasty's much. i do remember you doing a diary thing before i think, so props for you on that one (Y) i guess i unconciously copy some people's ideas. if so, sorry about that. I just wanted something that'll make it easier to update my dynasty. doing the usual game recaps are too tiring

all good, good luck with this. I found it odd, that ur were starting a rookie diary not to mention talking about an adidas ad (when i just put up a nike ad)
Since you don't visit other people dynasties much, i found it weird how our ideas were so close together. Since they were both original ideas?right?
u should check out my little dynasty to see what i was talking about.

no big deal, i think i saw your nike ad as well. but the ad idea was because i was picking out a shoe to wear then i picked out the gdl then i thought i could use that for my dynasty. the circus of the guards thing is a real ad btw. i'm just gonna edit the real one to put my character in. it won't be an original ad like yours. plus i'm not claiming all my ideas are original coz i might have been influenced by the few dynasties i checked out once in a while so just feel free to say something if you feel you should be credited. i know how it feels to be ripped off. besides i don't think my dynasty's gonna come out as detailed as yours. i'm too lazy to do that. i doubt it's even gonna last as long. ISSUE #2 by Spencer Ravago
Hey, it's me again. Just got home from a home game against the Bulls. We lost but it was a good game for me and all I can say is that the team is improving. We still have a 0-3 record but compared to our first two games, this one was great. Our very first regular season game was against the Wiz and we got we got beat by almost 15 points. I had a hard time in teh court only getting about 10 points plus my passing wasn't that great either especially for a point guard. Our second game was in Miami and oh boy that was hell. We lost by almost 20. It was hard to contain Shaq and Wade plus they had a lot of shooters. My performance wasn't something to be proud of either. The Bulls game, however, was a welcome improvement. I finally got to score. I dropped 23 on the bulls. My passing still sucked though. Emeka was able to get a double double with 10 and 10. We were quite happy as we lost by less than 10 this time even if it was just the Bulls. Hey, we're the expansion team remember? I was able to do my first dunk as an NBA Player in this game too. Here's a picture.
Image
Later on in the game, I was able to dunk again. It was a great feeling especially since we were playing at home. The crowd erupted when they saw the little guy dunk.

Oh yeah, before I forget, here's the adidas ad I was talking about

Image

They just slapped my face in the old ad with the original 3 players of the campaign. Now there are 4 members in the Circus of the Guards. Anyway, that's it. Have to go. Hope my team continues to improve and hope to see you again next issue

ISSUE #3 by Spencer Ravago
Hey there. Just got back from rehab. Yeah, rehab. I injured my back late in the 4th quarter during our last game which was in Dallas. I was going for a layup and a bunch of Mavs sandwiched me to oblivion. Ok, I'm exagerrating a little bit. It's not that serious though. The doc says that I'll be a hundred perfect by our next game. I was lucky we had a long break before our next game. It's gonna be against the Celts by the way.

Now enough about that. Let's talk about something more uplifting. Like our first two wins this season. We won 2 of the 4 games we played since the last issue (Chicago, Maimi, New Orleans and Dallas). We got a win against the Bulls 44-50 . That was a fun game. There were alley oops from all over. I was picked as the player of the game by the way, 15 points 5 boards and 10 assists. The assists aren't that amazing though since I also got 11 turnovers that game. Emeka got 9 points and 3 rebounds while Primo had 10 points and 8 amazing blocks. Here's a picture of an alley oop dished out by Gerald Wallace to yours truly

Image

Miami wasn't a bad game either even if we lost. The reason for that is we didn't loose as much as our first encounter. We reduced the deficit by less than 10 this time. Then there was New Orleans. We beat them 54-47 in their home court. I got player of the game honors again with 15 points 6 assists and 6 steals. Emeka got 10 points 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. I think Birdman Chris Andersen injured his leg in that game. I don't know if it was serious though. After the Hornets was the Mavs. They beat us senseless with 49-64. Then of course I injured my back. Too bad though, we had a good start in that game even getting the lead a few times. Funny thing was they were pitting KVH against Emeka and of course Emeka ate him whole. Jason Terry exploded during that game. He dropped 22 points to be the eventual player of the game.

Oh yeah, we got new teammates. Malik Allen and Jahidi White got traded to Seattle for Robert Swift. Then we signed Robert Horry for two years. Yup we got two Robert's now. Swift seems to be doing pretty well guarding the paint very well. He got 8 points in the Chicago game and he always gets a lot of blocks. He got a couple of oops from me during the Bulls game. Here's a picture of one of them.

Image

I heard that Manu Ginobili of the Spurs got injured. Seems like he's gonna be out for a while with a sprained thumb. Hope you get well soon Manu.

Anyway, that's it. Need to rest my back for a while. Need to be in great shape for the Celtics game. See ya!

ISSUE #4 by Spencer Ravago
What's up everybody! Just came back from our game against the Nets. That was probably the best game of my career so far, even if my whole career so far is ten games. I broke a lot of my personal records, career-high 25 points, 8 boards and 10 steals plus I also dished 7 assists. If only I was a little taller and can block I would've gotten a 5 by 5 or something. The whole game was a point guard battle. It was me and JKidd doing our best against each other the whole game. He dropped 22 points on us. In the end, we won 70-62. 'Meka scored 10 points while Primo dropped 11. I was looking forward to that game too since I wanted to see Vince Carter doing one of those highlight dunks we're used to seeing on TV. Too bad all he did was mostly jump shots. I don't remember a single dunk from him that game. I think he got 10 points in that game. Before this game, we went to Boston, where I played my first game after rehab, and then Cleveland to meet LeBron and the Cavs. We went to overtime in Boston. I thought we were going to lose that one but in the end we won 76-72. Both teams wore dark jerseys in that game because we weren't informed that Boston wanted to wear their green/black alternate jerseys. Good thing our team colors were different or else it would've been one confusing game. I got 19 points and a career-high 13 assists in that game while Emeka dropped 15 points and 9 rebounds and Gerald Wallace, oh boy, got 14 points and 7 blocks and he's playing the two guard, folks. Paul Pierce and Marcus Banks were carrying the Celts the whole game with 19 and 20 points apiece. Here's a nice photo from the game.

Image

I don't think it really does that Devean any justice though. You guys should've seen it in action. He made a 180 reverse two handed jam off a lob from me. Check out how high he jumped. That really surprised me. I though he was just going to do a straight up dunk. I think we did that again off another break. I just don't remember if it was the same game or if it went it or not. It's dunks like these that made me wonder why he's not dunking more often. Now on to Cleveland, we lost that one. Too bad, it was a close game with a final score of 54-51. LBJ was the player of the game with 18 points. Emeka had a bad game he only got 6 points and 4 rebounds. Primo, on the other hand, was a monster in the paint. He got 10 blocks.

I just checked out some stats from NBA.com. Ray Allen was leading in points per game with 22.8 points. And people were saying he was only playing better last season because it was his contract year. Elton Brand and Carlos Boozer are tied for most boards per game with 10.8. Our team owns the blocks department though. Primoz, Emeka and Gerald, yes Gerald Wallace are all in the top 4 blocks. What's surprising is that Emeka only came in fourth with 2.6 while Brezec was first and Wallace second! They got 6.1bpg and 4.0bpg respectively. Baby bull Tyson Chandler came in third with 2.62. Another surprise, I was leading the league with 4 steals per game and second in the assists department with Tony Parker with 6.4 assists per game after Sam Cassell who has 6.5 apg.

Lots of major injuries happened lately. Ben Wallace is out with a sprained ankle. I think Amare is also out with something. Kobe is injured as well. Manu is still out. That must be why the Spurs are doing so bad. They're like third worst in the West or something.

Anyway, have to go. I need some shuteye we have to play against the Wiz again tomorrow.

first of all stop acting like its such an original idea. its not ok. any1 could think of it. i was gonna do a diary myself but then i thought itd be too hard... and hav u ever heard of rookie diaries b4? they actually exist in the nba bud. its not about the idea its about how its presented and told. so stop acting like it was "stolen" from you.

its already dropped?

nice start, in some way i feel i might of influenced some of your ideas.but as usual i get no credit. oh well good luck

i didnt say shit to u personally i just said u should stop attacking him... on his OWN damn dynasty.

sry for this post null17 but i refuse to let cocobee step on me just because he has a reputation and has been here. dont tell me to mind my own fucking business i wasnt in your business i was defending som1. anyways... moving on.

ur dynasty is great null i like ur 4th entry... congrats on the career high 13 assists and 10 steals  . i luv how wen i read it, it feels like im readin a real persons diary. very realistic :) keep it up. :D

its just luck i think. sometimes they do different dunks depending on the situation or ability. but yea that alley oop is crazy... impossible in real life tho, too bad about that. i dont think ive ever pulled 1 off in game but the comp has. wen the comp did that once on me i jus paused the game and stared at the screen gathering myself. thne i went to the instant replay and watched it 100 times lol

Mick: for some reason the comp doesn't play rush very much. sometimes he doesn't even get to play on certain games. rush and robinson are sharing some minutes. sometimes rush gets to play and robinson doesnt then on some games it's the other way around.

Shiva and coco: settle this somewhere else. as far as I'm concerned, coco seems to be fine with me doing the diary and shiva, i know you mean well but this would just lead to a flame war.

ISSUE #5 by Spencer Ravago
It's me again. Our team's been in a slump lately. Lost four straight games. First, it was the Wizards again who donned the retro blue bullets jersey. I was expecting them to wear the orange one but the blue one with the stripes seemed cool as well. Anyway, we lost to them pretty badly. 33-53 to be precise. Then it was the Knicks with 53-69. Only Emeka had a great game from our team. He dropped a season-high 24 points. Marbury also got 24. I only got 14 points and 5 assists. Here's a cool pic from the game that I found. Looks cool coz it's like a sequence type thing. It's from a great play I made. The picture's a little overwhelming but I'll try to narrate what happened so you'll get a better picture (no pun intended) of what happened.
Image
Anyway, it's starts off when I call an Iso. So, it's me and Stephon, 1 on 1. First, I tried to shake him with a little cross. I go from left to right. But nothing. He didn't fall for it. Then, I try to loose him again. This time, it worked. I then ran to the rim thinking, I was home free with Marbz gone. Spoke too soon. Kurt Thomas was in the paint. What'd I do then? I made a spin around him. Guess what? Mike Sweetney was there. Problem with him is. He was standing in front of me but he wasn't in-between me and the rim. So I just ignored him and flew to the hoop. After the Knicks were the Bucks. Michael Redd was unstoppable dropping 22 points. While our team couldn't score to save our lives. The leading scorers from our team were me and Emeka with only 13 and 14 respectively. We lost by 13 points with a final score of 58-45. After the Bucks, we were off to the Windy City. This game hurt the most since it was a close game from the start. But, for some reason, we were sucked so much in the fourth that we lost by 10. Ben Gordon was a monster with 24 points. He was doing everything on the offensive end. Dropping three's, slashing, midrange J's, everything. Hope we'll recover from this slump soon.

The first power rankings are out with Phoenix at the number one spot. Here's the top ten

1 Phoenix
2 Minnesota
3 Dallas
4 Indiana
5 Miami
6 Memphis
7 Toronto
8 Denver
9 Utah
10 Detroit

I'd say the biggest surprise this season is a VC-less Toronto in the number 7 spot. Worst surprise would have to be San Antonio at the 28th spot. Kind of unusual since they are always championship contenders for how many years now. I think they're getting the Timberwolves syndrome from last season. They have the same lineup from last season, Duncan is doing great but the team is loosing big time. Even we're doing a little better than them. We're in the 26th spot by the way. I also found out that the top candidates for MVP are Ray Allen, KG, Redd, Dirk and Melo. Ray Allen seems to be doing great especially since he leads the league in scoring. I guess he proved a lot of critics wrong. He's still playing great even after the Sonics re-signed him. Melo and LeBron seemed to have switched places with Melo now an MVP candidate and his team having a great record while LeBron and the Cavs are nowhere to be found.

I also bagged the East Rookie of the Month award. Pretty cool. I'm currently averaging 14.8 points and 6 assists. Clarence Fowler, who was the 9th overall pick by Golden State, is the West Rookie of the Month. Shooters Michael Redd and Ray Allen got the Player of the Month awards for their respective conferences. They pretty much deserve it with their great performances this season.

Anyway, have to go. For some reason were going to play the Heat tomorrow and the day after that. So, we have to get ready for the Big Diesel and Flash.
