2k and Elite does anyone feel the same

Sat Aug 14, 2010 6:43 am

before I get started let me put this out there "I am totally a Live fan, I have been since it came out and it is the only game I have played" I have always disliked 2k and never even gave it a chance. I have argued with my brothers and friends for years that Live was the best. I first tried 2k in 08 and didn't like the dribbling controls. Well LIve had been getting kind of dull depth wise but I think 2010 was an improvement. I have been eagerly awaiting 2011 Live or now Elite. But in the meantime about 2months ago I said let me try 2k10 just to see.

I payed 2k10 and was utterly surprised it was actually a good game I think the dynasty and game depth was definetly better then LIve10 but don't really know which game i liked better gameplay wise. Simple and plain though I no longer can say 2k sucks it is a really good game. So I was anticipating all of the info coming out for both games. I love what Elite is doing with the controls I think it will make for a better game. But once I seen 2k say they had Jordan and him playable. Then you could have him from different times of his carrer along with his team and their likeness and then how you could also have some of the other great teams and there likeness I was like how can elite even compete because to be honest both are good so then what does one do to top the other.

So finally I see the trailer today of 2k11 and how it has Worth, Jordan, Wilkins, Kemp are you serious man so its official I got to get it yes I may still get Elite but I think 2k has taken it because at the end of the day if you are a basketball fanatic how can you not want to play with worthy, jordan, pippen, kemp, payton, magic, from there old days and with there real likeness. Again I have always loved live and am liking what I seen in Elite I would definetly go with Elite if it had Jordan and the same old school teams. But does anybody kind of feel let down by Elite that even though it seems they are making some great improvments that at the end of the day 2k11 is topping them with the bigger and better knows of not just having a jordan challenge but Jordan in the game with other players and old school teams.

2k does look like a great game!!! I'm sure there's going to be a lot of Kobe/Jordan battles . . . As a Basketball fan, U have to buy 2k LOL, But in reality, I have to play both to see which one is going to take up all my time. . If Elite keeps up atmosphere features in the game, I'm already sold, I played so many games last year having to turn up the speakers cause the game was intense. . 2k didn't have that feel for me. If 2k can pull off overall gameplay and atmosphere to where they had it in 2k7, I think Im going to love it also. . . It's a toss up for the open minded people like myself, cause just because 2k has Jordan doesn't mean it's going to be a good game (but it will, cause your not putting out crap with Jordan on the cover). But Elite has NBA JAM, and that' to me is already an automatic buy LOL, It's all about who delivers on overall gameplay with me, like I say every year on this site

I'm picking up both games. Although I don't think Live's got it quite right the last few years - I'm still playing an NBA Live 06 Dynasty, though I'd probably be playing an NBA Live 10 Dynasty if its Dynasty Mode wasn't so flawed - I still prefer their approach to controls and of course I am a longtime NBA Live fan. I'll naturally be getting NBA Elite 11 but I did get NBA 2K10 and was impressed, enjoying it much more than my previous experiences with 2K, which usually came down to one thing: I just don't like the Isomotion approach.

So yeah, I'm going with both this year. The Jordan Challenge will have me spending a decent amount of time with 2K but if NBA Elite's Dynasty Mode has been revamped and improved over recent years and the gameplay improvements are as good as advertised then I'll be spending a lot of time with it as well. It may be that I go with Elite for the current NBA and fulfilling my GM fantasies, and 2K for the nostalgic value it can provide. I'll have to see how I enjoy both games once I get my hands on them.

I've played the 2K10 demo, I like the gameplay, but I'm terrible at on-ball defense. There are times where I shut down my opponent, but 80% of the time, my opponent scores.

Live 10 isn't a bad game, the biggest killer is, as Andrew said, dynasty mode, and the fact that the AI is just impossible to beat at times. I might purchase both games, Elite 11 and 2K11, but I'm sticking more to Elite for now.

What I'm currently planning on doing is picking up NBA Elite 11 for Xbox 360 and NBA 2K11 for PC. No promises that I'll get into the patching side of things for NBA 2K11 but I'd like to have the option to try out what others are making if nothing else. ;)

PC version will also hopefully be cheaper again as well.

I think I should do the same, as for PC it's a lot cheaper (2K). I've never patched in my life, so I might give it a try, but I might just play the game as it is.

And of course, I can import the PC version from the States if there are any delays on its release here in Australia.

I read somewhere that the 2K11 for the PC might be $30 since it has 'that guy' in it.

Perimeter D or Post D?

Both, to be honest.

A bump to $30 would be alright I suppose, I'll whine but not that much. You're still getting two games for the price of one at that rate.

The only release delay on Steam is the download time. Image (Maybe they'll do a pre-load this year?)

True, but again that's the advantage of the PC version.

Were you holding down the left trigger while guarding the person on offense? Doing so basically allows you to play lockdown defense, which makes the defender your controlling stay attached to the offensive player as long as your close enough to them.

Though his tutorials are primarily for 2K9 and 2K8, some of it can still be applied for 2K10 (probably 2K11 as well), especially most of the defense tutorials. Zihinmaster did a nice job of breaking it down.

You'll be playing D even with your guard, bigman, or if you just flat out hate Kobe, just like Shaq. Even blocking shots with Peja!

Yeah, I was, but the AI passes to another player, and contested or not, always makes shots. Playing the demo today, my perimeter defense is improved, but my low post defense still needs work.

Block shots with Peja! I need to check that out. Thanks. :)

Yeah the Jordan challenge is really making me lean toward 2k this year even though I've always been a live fan. Elite sounds cool with NBA Jam and there new controls but the become legendary mode doesn't sound like it will give the option of being role player witch was important to me. I am going to wait for more info to come out before my final decision. (I want to see what elite has done with dynasty mode)
