Decompressing IFF Files

Postby 4kim28 on Wed Aug 14, 2024 7:27 am

I am trying to open a file called teamselectlogo.iff

I read on the forum that there is a tool to decompress IFF files, but that didn't work for me as I got the error message "This file is not compressed with ZLIB or it is already decompressed". I also read that I should try 7zip or Winrar, but both of those also returned errors along the lines of "Cannot open file as archive".

Upon inspecting this file with a Hex editor I was able to get the names of the files that all appear to be DDS files as far as I know because it has the TXTR DRAM DRAM VRAM after each file name. I also got ChatGPT to detect 2 chunks in the file, one being much larger than the other.

I got this IFF file extracted from the ps3 version of College Hoops 2k8. Are the college hoops IFF files somehow different filetypes from the NBA 2K IFF files? Are there any other ways to extract or at least see the files inside of the IFF File?

You should try with old 2k9 tools

Only 2k16 to 24 Iff files Can be opened with 7zip

Wow I completely forgot about this thread lol.

Unfortunately, after a lot of experimentation, I think the PS3 IFF files are slightly different than the PC ones and are not compatible with the PC modding tools, as they don't work with any of the 2k12 modding tools I found. Do you know of any mod tools that were made for 2K9 or earlier specifically? I could maybe try one of those, though this might require a program that specifically can extract PS3 IFFs and I am not sure that exists yet.
