New Shooting System?

Postby Bang on Sat May 08, 2004 9:42 pm

Most of NBA Live's flaws lie deeply in the shooting system. The computer determines everything with the exception of a layup and shoot choice.
I know that freestyle air might change this (or not...) and give more options. I think there should be a way to control the shot's power and accuracy by the user somehow...Yes, pressing the button longer increases accuracy in live but not much..I mean, having a precise system. The system will be a bit confusing, but I think it's necessary. Also, that way, we can cut back on the comeback code...cuz missing WIDE OPEN dunks is VERY annoying...
Also...I really wish they'd cut back on dunking...too much dunking..(I say this a lot - -;; )

My suggestion is when player was guard closely his accuracy is decreased also defends to the def. awr of the player who guard, the same as when player is double teamed. Confidence, in real nba games even a player is good 3 pt shooter they don't just shoot the 3pt even the guard is far or not too close to him. Example when ball is kicked out by center to outside the accuracy of shot is high than just stand and shot.

What in God's Holy Name are you blathering about.

I did not understand anything you just said.

Maybe you're from a different country and aren't familiar with the english language. In that case, all right.

But if not, you need some serious english lessons, Bangyounh.

Don't be so harsh killerht, his english is easy enough to understand.

I understand where you're going with this bangyounh, but there if you keep the shooting setting to User instead of CPU then you control part of the shooting. So in reality I don't think that is the real problem. But yeah, that infamous CPU comeback code gets annoying, I hope they tweak it even more. I actually saw less of it in games playing 2005, while I saw it a lot playing 2003 or 2004.

Regarding the dunking, go to your gameplay settings and lower dunk vs. lay-up setting to the level you find realistic. I get a max of 3-4 dunks per game even with Jason Richardson, which isn't unrealistic if you ask me.

I'm not complaining about too many dunks, since I modified my sliders accordingly. On the other hand though,if you wanted to keep it realistic have fun with 2 dunks per game and the rest will be oh-so-exciting layups.

Been there, done that and it really makes the game less exciting with that many layups. (hooray for layups on fast breaks)

Hmm, I should've seen this topic. I posted a suggestion in the wishlist, the idea of adding a slider to differentiate between a streak shooter vs. a technique shooter. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

I like to add that the streak vs. technique factor is an *addition*, meaning that they don't need to to reinvent the whole thing (well, blocking needs to be fixed, of course). How much of this streak vs. technique will affect gameplay is dependent on testing.
