Quick Comments:

As to hannibal rising being a "hannibal movie without hopkins?" Red Dragon has actually been made twice, once without hopkins.....but i agree it should be made a crime to make a Hannibal movie without Hopkins in it.

As to the comment "Jim can act"...did you not see the Truman Show or Eternal Sunshine? Hell even his comedic roles take talent to pull IMHO...how could you do things like ace verntura without cracking up the whole time; its his job to act and he does an excellent job of it, even in things like "Lemony Snickets"

Illini, I agree with that. While I thought playing the bad guy in Lemony Snicket was an ideal role for him in which Jim Carrey was superb with, he was able to do a good job with a more serious role in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which is, imo, one of my top 10 favorite movies.

I just watched The number 23 last night. I really enjoyed it. The plot wasn't bad at all, you just expect something different after watching it's trailer. The thing about the cast is, they barely build on any of the characters except Jim's.

I wouldn't suggest paying theater money for it, but it's definitely worth a rental.

Just saw Clerks. That was an interesting movie, haven't really seen anything like it. All black and white, and at one setting pretty much the whole movie. Still decent though.

And i saw clockwork orange for the first time also.

Also hired Shawshank redemption, me and the girly are gonna watch that soon.

just got back from watching 300. I didn't know it was based off a Frank Miller graphic novel until the credits which featured some of that work. (Sin City is one of my favorite movies of all time) it made a lot of sense after I found out... it explained a lot of the nudity and graphic violence with blood spewing everywhere

yeah it was pretty good especially the fight scenes. i don't think it was terribly accurate as far as history goes though *SPOILER. I SWEAR IF YOU DON'T WANT THE MOVIE SPOILED DON'T READ THIS PART*because Xerxes in the movie wasn't even Persian and they made him out to be gay and shit... like seriously WTF, but there was a fucking Hunchback Greek like fucking Hunchback of Notre Dame status. too many deformed people in this movie altogether. i have nothing against deformed people, but seriously, I don't think Xerxes's Immortals were made up of a bunch of freaks of nature.
i tihnk some weird shit like that kept it from being a better movie in my view.

i would recommend you see it with a bunch of friends... not really a movie you'd see with a girl

I don't consider anything you wrote to be a spoiler...you were just nitpicking the artistic direction, spoilers have to do with the story, and I find it hard to "spoil" historical events. So I won't "spoiler" the font.

Only about 50% of the movie was in the comics. The comic contained nothing back in Sparta with McNulty and the queen, once they left, it was just The Battle. (The comic was completely centered around Leonidas.) The comic also doesn't have any nudity or sex that I remember. Nor did it have a satyr.

It's a loose adaptation of a fictionalized account of perhaps the greatest battle in the history of the world, but it's still about as historically accurate as most movies people have taken to be accurate and not just stories. That said, I see no problem in an "artistic interpretation" of it as it wasn't trying to be a historical recreation. Especially with the movie, as it's trying to recreate the comic more. It does keep the "spirit" of the story, quoting dialogue directly from Herodotus and from Greek poems of the time.

It's not a great movie, all-time movie, but the parts taken from the comic are essentially perfect, parts made for the movie are pretty bad. The first battle is clutch, the banter with Xerxes and final battle are recreated perfectly from the comic. Speaking of the sex in the movie, how can you have a movie about Sparta, have sex in it, and not have the famous lesbian orgies of the Spartan women?

For a real historical event filtered through a "God of War" style lens: 7/10

yeah it wasn't much of a spoiler, but I dunno I felt it needed to be done. i agree it was a little nitpicky but those things i mentioned, among others, kept me from really liking it.

SPOILER Shitty ending, but that's how the dude supposedly died. dang i would've liked to see him survive and go back and bang the shit out of that blind chick lol
It kinda got me thinking during and after the movie, like how The Last Samurai (one of my favorite movies of all time) did. Very interesting as far as philosophy goes and how to live your life and carry yourself. I like those kind of movies. I would recommend it to everyone here, especially if you're Asian or Chinese or of Chinese descent.

lol in that movie there was this one fight scene where he completely snapped this one guy's arm backwards i think.. it looked disgusting but the guy's facial reaction was priceless.

300 was the most badass movie I've seen in years. If you are a male and you don't think this movie kicks seven different varities of ass, I hereby revoke your dudehood. See this movie. Now.

Saw Rocky Balboa on Sunday night, thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to admit I was kind of hoping the outcome of the fight would be different though the ending they went for was probably the most appropriate.

I'm a bit late in posting but I also watched 300 and I gotta say I loved it. I never read the comic nor am I familiar with anything related to the story so everything in it was basically new to me. That said there was no story to ruin and basically it was all kind of an action/skin fest which was good enough to have me talking about it nonstop for a while. Loved it.

I'm gonna watch 300 at IMAX as well, when those 100-people lineups start to fade. Most likely next weekend. Should be freaking awesome.

it was cool. i liked how i knew everything that was coming in the movie. the big imax screen seemed a lot bigger 10 years ago when i last saw imax. it was still better than seeing it in a regular theater though.

True, but it's also no fun when you're sitting at the front corner of an IMAX theatre

Just saw 'The Host'. Its some sort of Korean horror flick I saw on movies.com that was highly rated so I figured why not. In the end it wasnt the worst movie I ever saw but the ratings were overly inflated. I'd say rent it instead.

Saw The Departed. Fantastic, one of the best movies I have seen in a few years. Great acting, nice twist at the end, well directed. Lots of blood... good times.

Six. ;) It seems unlikely there'll be any more as Rocky Balboa provided the satisfactory closure that Stallone felt Rocky V lacked. I suppose you can never say never in Hollywood but with the way the last instalment ended and the favourable reception it enjoyed, a seventh Rocky will probably remain a joke on The Simpsons.

Yeah I saw it, boy some of those Persians were hideous.

Watched 'I think I love my wife'...with the wife of course. Wasnt too bad. A bit unfinished as there were a few stones left unturned but all the things he discussed about his feeling towards marriage you can kinda adapt to which made it an ok film.
