I watched Cars last night, and I kind of dozed off.
I liked other Pixar animated movies a lot more.

You're so incredibly wrong. Pulp Fiction basically created the genre of interconnecting stories. Crash, Traffic and all those movies wouldn't have exsisted without Pulp Fiction, that was the beginning of the genre.
When I said that they need to be watched a second time, I just meant because you have a different point of view after seeing the whole thing, not that it was difficult to understand.

And here's the money shot, a rep for Warner Brothers told the amputees, "
You will have to wait for December, when the movie comes out, so we can get some publicity out of it."
Am I the only one following his blog by the way? It's awesome

Indy, i also couldnt stand Crash or Traffic...i know i've seen movies w/ the interconnecting stories and shit made before pulp, just give me a few days to figure them out....Also, IMHO (and yes i know its semantics) i'd say its more the style we're referring to than a genre....Pulp Fiction-Drugs/Mob world Crash-Racism/real world (depending on your interpretation)....but hey whatever floats your boat...if you like pulp fiction more power to you, maybe its just not my kind of movie

I know I was misusing the word genre, you're right.
Pulp Fiction is just one of those movies that I can't understand why someone can't like it. It's a great story, it's shot very well, the dialog is outstanding, and the acting is great so I always feel the need to defend it.
By the way, never forget who ended your undefeated season a couple years ago.

I will admit the first time i saw Pulp Fiction. I detested it....i hated it with every fiber of my being. But the same thing was true with Garden State which now one of my faves (even though i know its just my generations version of the Graduate) So i decided last week to give Pulp another chance. I still hate it. Maybe its the inability to relate to the characters, maybe its the inaccurate portrayal of southerners when they rape marsellus, maybe its the fact i think tarantion is a pompous prick who passes off coolness as art...who knows? The things i do like and will give you: yes the dialogue is outstanding, and most of the acting is great (Travolta never could and will never be able to act)...But i get what you're saying, i'm the same way about the Godfather....i get into arguments about it constantly...at least though i've actually seen it

my friend tries to argue before she sees movies and then ends up liking them (boondock saints and quick and the dead come to to mind)

I can't stand The Godfather.
I don't understand what you mean by inability to relate to the characters though. So much of the dialog is just natural dialog that sort of makes you relate to the character.
But to each his own.

Pulp Fiction rocks, but even I have trouble thinking that it might be better than Reservoir Dogs. I'll have to watch Reservoir Dogs again. I haven't seen that movie in ages, but the first time I saw it, it wowed me to no end.

to me, its hard to relate to LA mobsters/butch etc. Its really weird though since i like the godfather. I think i see alot more of myself in Michael Corleone than i do in any character in Pulp Fiction...

I saw The Grudge a few days ago. I thought some parts were pretty scary. I'm not going to lie, I had some trouble sleeping

Not to sound like an ass, but would you mind if I asked how old you are?
I watched Mini's First Time last night, it's a good movie, Alec Baldwin was really good in it, Nikki Reed looked delicious, Carrie Ann Moss portrayed the role she was given with hell of a lot of ease, Jeff Goldblum was strictly okay, Luke Wilson did an alright job and there was a surprise guest appearance by one of my favorite Lakers, Rick Fox.
It's not a great movie, it's not a super good movie, it's a watchable movie. The plot has it's twists and turns but at times reminds of movies like Cruel Intentions & Wild Things. Don't ask why, could be just me.
Overall, watchable on DVD if you've got no grade A movies to watch.

What do you mean by that exactly? I'm just asking because Garden State is my favourite movie, and i'm interested in why you compared it to the Graduate.

16, I know, I'm a wuss when it comes to scary movies.

Hinrich...the feeling of being 20 something with no direction and feeling numb to the world is the prevalent tone/theme/mood (whichever you wanna use) of both movies and while the Graduate is a bit dated for our generation, it still has just as much power as garden state does. If you havent seen it and enjoy garden state, check it out, if for no other reasons:
1)Mrs. Robinson is hot for an older woman
2)Dustin Hoffman at a young age is interesting to see for me at least
3)Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack/score
Thu Oct 26, 2006 1:45 pm
Ah k. interesting. I see what you mean.
Interesting that you should bring up the simon and garfunkel soundtrack, given that they also appear in... the garden state soundtrack. "The Only Living Boy in New York" The soundtrack is a HUGE part of garden state's appeal to me.
I'm also really looking forward to The Last Kiss, Zach Braff's next film.

i've actually heard it wasnt nearly as good, havent gotten a chance to see it yet, but the soundtracks not bad. I live and die by music and you'll learn that once i have a few more posts under my belt that arent about nba live;-) The garden soundtrack is amazing, but the graduate the ENTIRETY has simon and garfunkel...it fits the mood so well and honestly, it may be the best use of soundtrack i've ever witnessed/heard
Thu Oct 26, 2006 1:57 pm
Yeah, it's not out here yet. And when it does, like Garden State, it probably won't be on general release, just in the smaller cinemas, which works for me.
Have you seen I am Sam or heard the soundtrack? Entirely composed from Lennon/McCartney songs, but performed by different artists. Another great soundtrack.
Thu Oct 26, 2006 2:05 pm
not yet, its on my list of need to see though...(its a long list)

That soundtrack is awesome. The stereophonics cover of 'Don't Let Me Down' is the first time I've ever heard a cover of a Beatles track that was better than the original. I'm a huge beatles fan so that is a very big statement.
Also the movie is pretty decent too. Very depressing though, a guarantee to make your girlfriend tear up

damn, I'm a huge Beatles fan & love that song, but don't recall watching that movie, although I'm sure I do, is that the one with "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" & the girl was called Lucy because of it....I dunno....but now I really wanna hear that Stereophonics cover

i'm not a fan of the vines, but i do like their version of "I'm only Sleeping" on the soundtrack.
Fri Oct 27, 2006 11:53 am
Yeah that is a top song too. The cover of 'Nowhere Man' and 'Blackbird' are tops as well. Hell I've gotta go home this weekend, might 'loan' that cd from my parents. They may see it again one day.

I think some of you guys are a wee bit confused...you're looking for
this thread.
I watched Little Man today, once upon a time I would die of laughter at a guy getting hit in the nuts...then I stopped wearing pampers.
Seriously, every bit that was supposed to be funny was shown in the trailors of the movie & the movie as a whole had no head or tail.
It deserves the 2.3 rating it has on IMDB, stupid stupid stupid movie. Waste of my time & ratio.
Fri Oct 27, 2006 12:36 pm
Yeah I think we shifted a bit too far towards the soundtrack of the movies, not the actual movies. Lets try and get it abck on the topic

haven't watched a lot of movies the past while, but i am REALLY looking forward to Darren Aronofsky's first film since Requiem.... "The Fountain." Children of Men also looks pretty cool, and I wouldn't mind catching the Departed and Marie Antoinette. The last movie I watched I think was United 93.... apart from the constant camera shake (made me vaguely sick), it was very good. hmmm, I also watched "Stay" which was pretty good as well.
