Close games and losses despite good shooting

Postby Leander on Thu Aug 07, 2008 6:34 am

Damn, I cannot win anymore. I played my first season...then did not play a game for some months. Now I play my second season and can't win anymore. I forgot how to win.

I always have a close game with 2 minutes to go...and lose by 2-4 points. :(

My backup point guard is Jordan Farmar. He hit 16/26 from downtown...averages 15 points as a backup with limited minutes.

In my last game he hit 5/7 and my whole team hit a career high 15/32 from downtown. Still I lost.

:(

Farmar hit over 60% from downtown in the first four games. In prior seasons my best shooters had about 35 from behind the arc.

The comeback logic can be pretty aggressive. I think you notice it a bit more when you've put the game aside for a while.

Season 1 of my dynasty: 18-11 or something.
I won almost all of my games in the second part of that season.

Season 2: 1-5.

Same settings...I cannot win any more. Do cpu teams play better in the second season of a dynasty?

One day I hit 50% from downtown and lose.
Then I hit 10% from downtown and lose.
Both the cpu and I shot 10 and 15% from downtown last game.

I shoot 46% from the field for the season but only had 32 this time. NOTHING went in.
I used to win in season 1 but now I keep losing game by game...by 10-20 points.

If I buy dynasty extras I play more badly. No shooting extras: shooting ok. Guards shoot better -> they miss all of their shots.
This is a joke. I have never had a game in which bought extras actually changed my game in a positive way.

Comeback logic? I am always behind. Pavlovic takes some random and stupid midrange jumpers with a man in his face and scores and scores.

Next...you cannot defend cpu players under the basket. They post up and make their hook shots or dunk on you. You can do just nothing. Take charge? Double team? Do nothing? No way.

In addition, there are players such as Ilgauskas that are unstoppable. They are tall and shoot over you. YOu cannot block them during 1 on 1.

I don't know how I can win again.

What i normally do when i get frustrated is lower the difficulty level for a few games to get back into the rythme of winning. Then raise it back up gradually. this ussually works for me. One thing I notice is personally i will end up choosing one player to play with although i am playing all of them (unlocked contol) and i find that this method often results in a loss for me. however if you pass more, alot more i find that your chances of winning big go way up. however this only works if your guys can pass.

It is quite strange that my FG% is 46% in both my last and my current season. Maybe the cpu lets me miss a lot of shots if my FG% is e.g. 50% or above in order to lower it.

Try increasing your poor release shot percent and decreasing the cpu's poor release shot percent in the sliders. If you start shooting too well, then lower your short/medium/long range shooting by a very small amount.

Are you playing against good teams? Ilgauskas may have improved. Maybe the game uses some scaling system that thinkgs your team isn't that good compared to the rest so they miss shots. I'm just tossing things out there.

Suck it up and keep losing. If you can't win, do what a real team would do. Work on improving certain players by padding there stats. Get a draft pick, make a transaction or free agent signing.

I was kicking major ass in my third season in 2k8 at 5-0, with all blowouts. The wins just came easy. All of a sudden, I couldn't get a call, I couldn't make a layup, ans was missing open shots. Frustration set in and I got blown out two games in a row.

Thanks for your replies.

Improving certain players does not work. I have many good shooters on the team.

Jordan Farmar has constantly improved since I traded for him. I think his 3P rating is now 88, yet he misses all of his shots if the cpu logic does not allow me points.

I have good rebounders, good shooters, good blockers. I also lose with a really good team in exhibition mode against a bad team the same way I lose in dynasty mode.

Moreover, my season stats are realistic. The only problem is that the cpu scores some more points because he hits everything even with low sliders...or I cannot stop him in the paint. No, Ilgauskas is still the same. Some centers cannot be stopped under the basket. My Eddy Curry dunks too often over defenders, too. Back down...layup/dunk button. 2 easy points.

I will leave my sliders as they are and decrese the cpu sliders until the game gets more balanced.

Know what? Now I remember this happening to me. Not sure if it was in 05, 06, or 07. I remember not being able to hit anything from outside and changing my sliders to compensate. Funny thing is, it went away on it's own and the cpu became too easy so I had to change my sliders back.
