Lighting V1.1 Preview | Portrait Backgrounds Released

Thu Dec 21, 2006 11:21 pm

I have completed my roster, based on Frenchy's updates, to the current date. I took alot of time getting the ratings right so that they reflect real life stats. However, no matter how much I tweaked the ratings, some things just wouldn't change. Things like no one scoring more than 24 per and rebounders like Dwight Howard grabbing 15-16 rebounds per really got to me.

I recently checked out Chris_23's Sim Engine update for 07, which I have heard works well. I downloaded it and used it for 05. Before I placed into the 2005 directory, I quickly checked that the files were similar, and after I noticed they were, I figured it would work. Unfortunately, the problems just got worse (because of the difference between the 2 games), especially in the assists department.

So, I had a quick look at Chris_23's simeng update and again compared it to the original to see what changes he made. I then learned how changing the numbers effects the stats in simulation. I trialled many of my own attempts (over different 25 seasons worth) until I got decent results, but I still couldn't fix the rebound rate, and the assists were to high. Eventually, I worked out how to manipulate the Sim Engine values ever so slightly to get what I wanted, and I now have something I am very happy with.

To give you an idea, here are 3 seasons simmed with my new Simulation Engine update, showing the league leaders in PPG, RPG, and APG respectively at the end of the season:

Some things I have found I just cannot change, and I have tried many times. I will continue to update the Simulation Engine, so this with be Version 1.0 along with my Version 1.0 rosters.

This initial release includes:

Rosters updated and accurate as of December 21st, ET.

thak you Flite (Y) :D . if you are working on appereance update, please dont forget to change appereance for Hilton Armstrong (Hornets) (change skin color to 3, body type to 2) and Brandon Bass (Hornets) (change skin color to 4, body type to 4, muscle to 4) thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I'l get that fixed and release with the next version. I am also working on slightly raising rebounding and possible scoring slightly more. I am currently trying to get some realistic stats out of J.R. Smith without losing any of his in-game ability.

Why does Zach Randolph score so much?

Fri Dec 22, 2006 6:25 am

Because if you look at the TrailBlazers now, they have no scorers outside of Randolph, plus Darius Miles is out for the season. He actually averages 25.3PPG in the real NBA, so after a few tweaks of the simeng and his ratings I should be able to get it close to that number. Also, I finally managed to get LeBron and Kobe going for 30+, but I'm still working some little problems out of the next version.

Fri Dec 22, 2006 7:30 am

O I didn't realize he had so many ppg.

Fri Dec 22, 2006 8:03 pm

I tried ur simeng wit my rosters and i tried a playoffs. Gasol in his first playoff game dropped 40points 13boards n 5blocks lol...i reckon its pretty accurate mate but in most of the games the forwards and off guards are getting more assists than the point g. I'll have a look at it...btw i like ur roster very accurate ..but i think mine the ratings are abit low.

Superman, try it with season because over 82 games it tends to even out, where in one game anything can happen. Thanks for the comment.

EDIT: I take it you were playing the playoff game? (because you can't check boxscores during playoffs) If you were, keep in mind the Simulation Engine updates just that - the simmed games. It is too keep stats realistic in Dynasty mode.

Yo Flite get on msn, I finally got away from the dark side(Live 07" back to 06 and 2005 only. :D

oh dude i love your job! keep updating 2005

Mon Dec 25, 2006 4:59 am

Very nice work.

Just out of curiosity, when will your next update be? I only ask b/c if it's gonna be a while, then I'll start a dynasty with this update. If it's going to be a short while, then I'll hold out.

Yes, definitely continue to update 2005.

Thanks!

Sorry bout the no update, but I have discovered my roster does not work in dynasty mode for some reason. I never noticed this because I was testing using season mode (quicker to get started). I'm gonna work on this problem for a while and if I manage to get it fixed then everything should be back on track. Thanks for the support.

Mon Dec 25, 2006 5:48 am

Flite did you edit your roster with Excel?

Mon Dec 25, 2006 6:43 am

Nope, I really don't know what the problem is and I have exhausted all but one idea. I'm gonna get some rest and try this last idea and just hope it works.

Tue Dec 26, 2006 9:34 pm

i think there should be players who are dropping 30-32 ppg. check out this year's and last year's stats. there should be at least 2 players scoring over 30.

Sun Dec 31, 2006 1:27 pm

Hey Flite, did you get a chance to fix the problem?

Is it your update that doesn't work with the update or does the problem originate from Frenchy's?

Mon Jan 01, 2007 6:30 pm

I will be continuing this everyone, after I sort out the dynasty problem and finish of the draft project with Ryan. I intend on doing a full mass update to the roster, every player, every team. For now, you can download my lighting patch in the first post. I will be adding a preview sometime tomorrow, but for now, feel free to try it out.

Tue Jan 02, 2007 12:36 am

Oh just saw the new art. Nice job.

Tue Jan 02, 2007 6:13 am

Congrats Flite! This is great news! I am so happy to hear the project lives. Thank you for your hard work.

Tue Jan 02, 2007 9:03 am

btw Flite, what happened to the roster update that was originally in the first post? Either you took it out or I've gone blind.

Tue Jan 02, 2007 11:20 am

Flite...

I am using Frenchy's sgsm folder and your transaction updates that you originally had in the first post of this thread.

I made some roster changes (added Devin Brown to the NOK Hornets) and corrected the jersey numbers for the players involved. Also, I made AI's arm sleeve white (to match Denver colors) and gave Nate Robinson a black arm sleeve for his right arm.

Some suggestions. I know you said you were going to do a massive updates, but I just wanted to point out the following:

-Krstic needs a portrait
-Nocioni needs a portrait
-Tarence Kinsey (Grizzlies) needs a portrait
-Smush Parker, Richard Hamilton, Stephen Jackson, and Jermaine O'Neal no longer have cornrows. Perhaps their cyberface (just the hair) and portrait can be updated to reflect this change in hairstyle.
-Darko Milicic no longer has that stupid bleach blonde do. Maybe his hair can be changed to brown.
-Jackie Butler's (Spurs) portrait is cut off. You can't see anything past the corner of his left eye.
-DeShawn Stevenson has cornrows/dreadlock type of hairstyle. Portrait/hair could be changed.

If these changes could be reflected in your next update, that would be dandy.

If you want this roster file with the number changes, so you don't have to do it (and spend that time on something else), tell me and I'll send it to you.

One other question. What does your art update change? I extracted it to my sgsm folder and I don't see anything noticably different.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

His artwork is for cyberfaces and portraits.
