Gravis Gamepad & playcalling

Hi there
I'm still playing NBA Live 05 with my old Gravis Gamepad Pro, but I got a problem with the playcallings... i put the playcall on the select button and everytime i wanted to use it with one of the 4 posibilities i just got a timeout, i cannot call any plays...
what can i do?
